"Mama Maria" as she was fondly called by her friends, Maami by her children and relatives, was very fashionable; a new dress or a*o ebi bought must go with new slippers, a purse and jewelries.

Mama was a disciplinarian, loving, straight forward, caring, prayerful mother, affectionate, generous and a great counsellor.

Mama was a rallying factor to her nephews and nieces after the demise of her elder and only sister. She was part of all her sister's children's affairs and they saw her as their mother.

During mama's active years she travelled to Jerusalem for pilgrimage and to America several times to visit her daughter.

Mama was a Socialite. There was no occasion she was invited to both in her home town and Lagos that she did not attend (she will always say 'ko to kin ma de bee') until her early 90's when she slowed down her travelling. Her last trip was to Ibadan in 2021 @ 98years for her first grand daughter's 50th birthday party.

Mama called a spade a spade and protected us all with her constant prayers to the lord.

She left us with many fond and loving memories of her being a prayerful woman

Mama attended St. Patrick Catholic Church Idumagbo Lagos. She was very active member of the Church. Mama was Baptized, received her first Holy Communion and Confirmed at St. Andrews Catholic Church, Oro, Kwara State.

Despite the fact that mama could neither read nor write, she was part of the charismatic movement in St. Patrick Catholic Church. She did not miss any of the meetings. Mama believed in God with all her heart, was very happy in her faith and did not take things of God for granted. She was a prayerful woman and spent much time on her knees praying to God.

A month before her passage, mama preferred to receive the Holy Communion rather than eat her food. She was privileged to received her last sacrament before her demise.

Mama was able to train her children and also attended to relatives friends' requests with the income gotten from her business. She also built houses both in Lagos and her home town from the proceeds of her business.

Mama retired from active trading immediately her last born finished from University and the business was handed over to him.

Mama trained all her children and grandchildren on how to be enterprising except for those that do not show interest.

Mama does not have formal education but her children were university graduates. However, she was Industrious and she usually told us regretfully that if she was given another chance in life, she will surely go to school.

Mama helped her mum to hawk goods while in Oro, Kwara State before she relocated to Lagos for greener pasture and lived with her Aunt, Mama Josphine Adunola (of blessed memory) whom she helped to sell goods at Ereko in Lagos. She left her aunt's place after marriage and started her little business of hawking goods like slippers, rain coats and many other things.

After some years she was able to save enough money to get a small space to put her counter where she sold baby items before the lord blessed her to get a proper shop at Oko Awo. Mama was so diligent with her business that she usually leaves home for her shop as early as 5:30am and by 6:00am, her goods are already displayed on the counter for customers.

She got married to Pa Godfrey Olabanji Awoyale of Ile Odo, Oro (of blessed memory) and the union was blessed with three (3) beautiful children. She was a mother figure to many nieces, nephews, cousins and many not related by blood.

MADAM AGNES YEWANDE AWOYALE, JP

She was born on the 14th April 1923, to the family of Papa and Mama Idowu of Ile Asanlu, Oro, Irepodun LGAKwara State. Her mother gave birth to two (2) of them, Mama Morotola Ile Olubu and herself. She was a precious child because her mummy did not believe she could give birth again because at the time she became pregnant of mama, her first child was also pregnant and due for delivery.
