BACK TO BASICS
What to bring:
2 gal of water per day, plus extra for camp/communal supply
Meals and snacks (this will take planning)

Something to stop chafing on your neither regions .
A few rolls of toilet paper
Phone charger, solar is best
Flashlight, lantern
Headlamp (or anything you can use hands-free for those dark porto trips)
Febreeze or homemade equivalent to spray down your costume if needed
Printed event map
Small pocket notebook and pen
Insulated water bottle, canteen, or camel-pack for water (in theme) this can be 1 gal of water also to count towards your water amount.
In-theme mug/cup
Utensils (can be a good idea to carry around one in a pocket), plate(s)
Plastic tote/bin for your costume(s)
Cot (if you plan on bringing an air mattress, make sure you have a way to fill it without an outlet)
Comfortable Sleeping bag.
Pillow
Extra blanket for cold nights, thermal layers, PJs
Fitted sheet to stretch over cot/sleeping bag during the day (dust WILL get into your tent)
A camping chair w umbrella for chair sunshade .

Container for prescription meds (figure out how you need to store these)
Simple first aid kit with bandages
Headache meds
Electrolyte tabs or chews
Immodium, Pepto-bismol
Menstruation products
Allergy meds, Benedryl
Eye drops (for allergies, rewetting drops for contacts and just general dryness)
Nasal spray (allergies, dryness)
DAILY contacts if you wear them
Backup glasses if you wear them, basic repair kit for emergencies
Sunblock, bring *extra*
Aloe for sunburn
Chapstick, even if you don’t normally use it (you’ll want one with SPF protection)
Lotion and hand cream
Foot powder
No-rinse shampoo, dry shampoo, comb/brush
Soap leaves for handwashing
Hand wipes
Hand sanitizer
Deodorant
Backpacking single-use toothbrushes (or toothbrush and toothpaste with plastic bottle to spit into, pack-in/pack-out means everything)
Shower wipes
Makeup wipes
Hand mirror
Makeup if you want it (use small travel or trial sizes; it’s better to not bring full size and expensive stuff to be ruined by the dust)
Small bag for personal garbage, ziplock bags for menstruation products and flushable wipes - NOTHING goes into the portos except 1-ply TP and whatever comes out of your body

Shemagh (multiple is best)
Goggles/sunglasses
Dust/face mask (theme a mask for the dust storms)
Insoles for shoes
Backup shoes (consider shoes that are easy to take on and off for porto trips at night)
Work gloves (in theme or not, you’ll want some for setup and tear-down)
Ear plugs (good for sleeping if you need it very quiet, also good for when you’re partying at the Pit or Mainstage)
Tin wallet to keep ID, card(s), and cash on hand
Cash for vendors.yes some only take cash
Lighter, MUST bring something for cigarette butts if you smoke
Watch (old school battery powered is best)
Small costume repair kit (safety pins, needle and thread, superglue, scissors, etc)
One clean outfit, packed in a sealed ziploc bag, for that ride home on the last day

What NOT to bring:
Large and awkward furniture not previously approved to be transported in shared vehicles if you are camping in a group
Fancy, expensive, and sentimental jewelry, clothing
Expensive equipment that can be damaged by the dust or excessive heat
Illegal drugs
Operational guns, live ammo
Unfinished projects
Costumes that would shed easily and create MOOP
Costume pieces or props with a lot of hot glue
Costumes with dangerous spikes
Soft-sided coolers
Anything you don’t want to get ruined by the desert

What to do before the event:
PRINT YOUR TICKET. Make sure you have your vaccine proof and negative test result ready. (Bonus: even if you’re vaccinated, take a COVID test before you head out as an extra courtesy.)
HYDRATE. Start drinking a lot of water regularly. Get in the habit now. Stay in the habit. Bring pedilite 1 per day . Multivitamins are your friend, start taking those or continue to do so. Make sure you have all your prescriptions and that you won’t run out during the week.
TRAVEL. If you are driving, take your car in for service: Get an oil change, check your battery, spare tire, alignment check,tire check etc. *Make sure your car can survive the trip! Take out anything unnecessary, try a test run of what can fit in your car.
COSTUME BINS. Unpack your gear! Take an inventory of all your costume parts and accessories. Wash all your costumes that can be washed, spray the others with vodka or tea tree oil mixture. Organize your gear into one labeled bin, pack your weapons separately. Throw in a few dryer sheets into your bin.
Wash your sleeping bag and blankets/sheets.
FOOD. Finalize your meal buddy (or buddies). Can food does great . Pre cooked in can . Chili. Chicken . Cheese. Hot dogs . Easy camping food.This should be who you are sharing a cooler with. Plan your meals and go grocery shopping. Meal prep a couple days before you leave for the event and freeze individual servings. Buy ice the day of and pack your cooler.
