Reducing waste // My biggest steps towards reducing waste are more in my personal life than in my business, but as you can see from the photo, my calligraphy makes it all the more enjoyable!
I’ve become pretty obsessed with our local refillery store that stocks SO MUCH stuff, it’s amazing. I love taking our jars and bottles there to fill up again, and I mean, obviously I had to label them… It’s just common sense.
It’s a bit different to my usual work, but I’ve been toying with the idea of selling these designs as labels for your own bottles and jars. Would you buy them if I did?
When it does come to the business side of things, I certainly do what I can. I order a lot of things, from paper to nibs, to new inks and practice pads, new pens…
Every time I receive my own package in an envelope or box that I can open without destroying, I keep them safe to re-use whenever I can. After all it’s what’s inside the package that really matters!
Of course, I also use up a whole lot of paper! I’m loving the trend towards recycled and handmade paper with clients – it means I can feel a little less guilty about all that stock!
I’ve also started creating big signs on glass and acrylic that can ‘usually’ be wiped clean and re-used.
I once saw the phrase ‘It doesn’t help if a small number of people do everything. What helps is if a lot of people do something.’ So I’m trying to do something.
Has anyone else found interesting ways to reduce waste?
