This shoot had a dark and dramatic yet warm vibe, with a quirky edge weaved in using elements from the table top role-playing game ‘Dungeons and Dragons’. The game’s popularity has soared in recent years thanks to its presence in TV shows like Stranger Things, and streams and podcasts like Critical Role making it accessible without a group to play with. With more people playing it than ever, it makes sense that nerdy couples would love to include it in their special day!
Players spend a lot of time around a table, crossing continents and traversing planes of existence, becoming close friends and gaining many skills that are also needed in a strong and healthy relationship. Teamwork, good communication, and a whole lot of trust that, when your barbarian makes a dumb move, they do indeed know what they’re doing - or at the very least they trust you enough in return to know that you’ll help get them out of whatever sticky situation they’ve ended up in. If a couple have grown close playing D&D, then they will have all of these skills for their relationship too and will likely want to celebrate the times they’ve played together and bring it into the stylings and atmosphere of their wedding day.
Dice are a big part of the game, with every roll leading you to either failure or success. Since they’re important in-game we made them a large part of this shoot. There were dice to be seen everywhere from the cake to the bouquets, from being part of the styling around the napkins to being scattered across the dining table. A dice unity ceremony to symbolise two unique individuals joining together was also part of the ceremony, where they read from a hand calligraphed scroll the promises and commitments they made with each dice placed in their ‘Together’ jar. A roll of the final dice, a D20 (a dice with twenty sides), decided who would read their vows first. The vows were said whilst embracing the traditional element of handfasting using a cord made up of a
D&D Love - A Natural 20
Inspired by the tabletop game ‘Dungeons & Dragons’, this shoot shows that a theme doesn’t have to be tacky or overbearing, and that you can have a wedding that really does reflect who you are. Being a huge part of the game, dice were intertwined in the design and were even the centrepiece to a beautifully written ceremony. Having bespoke dresses and bouquets meant stunning gowns inspired by the fantasy characters and bouquets as magical as those holding them. Just to name a few elements! All of this epicness captured at the perfect setting of an 1800’s gothic estate.
A stunning video to showcase what you can do with your day, and how a videographer can capture the emotions and give you goosebumps for years to come.
