So often we hear that fear and stress are “bad.” That they’ll hold us back. That we should avoid them at all costs.

But here’s what I’ve learned: when you use them with intention, they don’t stop you - they focus you.

Fear can sharpen your vision.
It can force you into the action you’ve been avoiding.
It can turn hesitation into momentum.

But only if you own it.
Not just by saying you’re committed.
Not just by speaking it out loud.
But by actually taking the step.

Ever cared so much that nothing feels good enough?

That’s how it felt preparing this talk. When it’s your story, your topic, your thing - you want it to stick. You want people to walk away saying, “Yes, I get that.” And sometimes, that very care is what makes it harder.

Here’s what I’ve learned: fear isn’t the enemy. It’s the sign you’re stepping into something that matters. Fear can sharpen you, focus you, and fuel you - if you let it.

When have you sat with something for too long?

Not the small stuff - the thing that keeps pulling at you in the quiet: the conversation you avoid, the side hustle idea you keep “tweaking,” the trip you say you’ll take “one day.” Put it on paper. Right now. ✍️

Here’s the thing: comfort costs you. Staying in routine feels safe, but safe rarely equals growth. I could’ve told Carrie it was too much - the travel, the prep, all of it and stayed home in the perfect little loop I liked. If I’d done that, I wouldn’t be standing here. I wouldn’t have met so many of you. I wouldn’t have given this talk.

So do this: write the thing down. Then pick ONE imperfect step and take it today.
• A one-line DM.
• A 10-minute outline.
• One paragraph on your site.
• A two-minute practice in front of the mirror.

Imperfect action beats perfect inaction every single time.

When you step on stage and share your story, you’re exposing the most vulnerable parts of yourself. You don’t know what will connect, what will land, or what will shift for the people listening.

But you show up anyway.
You practice. You put yourself out there. You trust the process.

I’ve built my business on a series of “unhinged” decisions.
Not because they looked smart on paper. But because they moved me forward.

I let my kids produce my content.

I started a podcast with no mic, no plan, and no clue where it would lead.

All I had was one question: What would happen if we truly listened to a million women’s voices?

So I hit record in my living room. No fancy setup. No strategy. No expectations. Just real, unfiltered conversations.

What started as curiosity turned into something so much bigger. The community grew. My inbox filled with messages like, “Thank you, I needed this.” and “I feel so seen.”

Then I had a wild idea… What if we brought these women together, in person?

Cue the Mishaps, the Magic, and the Mayhem - Women Making Waves was born. That unscripted little podcast led to a sold-out weekend retreat filled with raw stories, ugly cries, dance parties, and deep growth.

It wasn’t polished and that was the point. No branding team. No blueprint. Just trust, community, and a full-body yes.

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to start.

No one can do what you do and how you do it.

Period.

I spent years of my life, just trying to “fit in” and dim down, so that other people could feel more comfortable, more assured, less threatened by who I am and what I know.

And you know what?

I got nothing out of it. Just pure exhaustion and wearing myself thin trying to be something and someone I’m not.

It takes way less energy to just be you!
