Big love and respect to all who helped make Radio Plastique. It was an honor and privilege to be part of the experiment.
Dear Radio Plastique Listener.
First, David, Shirlé and Matthew hope you are all healthy, happy and looking forward to a wonderful 2024.
We would also like to personally thank all those that gave their financial support to the station over these last two years.
We truly couldn’t have kept it going without your help.
And on that note, unfortunately, beginning in January of 2024, we will begin to shut down the station. Our “lease” runs out on Feb 1st with our hosting company, RadioCo. Starting January 1, 2024 the station will be run by DJ AL (Algorithm), as well as the algorithm programs: It Goes To Eleven, Country Feedback, Swingin’ Sundays, World Shut Yr Mouth, Losing My Edge, Kool Thing & Morning Vibes.
We tried everything we knew to get more support, as the three of us couldn't financially continue. Just the hosting alone was a $2000 a year. With all the other incidentals it totaled almost $5000. Over the two years we have not broke even and with that said, Shirlé & David simply couldn't afford to keep throwing money at it.
The positives have been the new friendships we’ve made along the way with DJ's all over the country and sharing a lot of really great music with you, but unfortunately the support has not been there or the listenership. Our personal belief is that playlists / streaming services like Spotify, Pandora & Apple Music have sadly killed traditional radio.
We really thought we had something special and that more people would tune in and donate to the station, but it seems that we just couldn't find the right messaging to get the word out about Radio Plastique.
On behalf of David, Shirlé & Matt, we wanted to thank everyone for their contributions, ideas and friendship during this experiment that stemmed out of the pandemic. It was worth a shot and I think we all made an amazing station, but the world is just in a different place.
If any of you know of a mega wealthy donor who might want to invest in our station please don't hesitate to let them know about Radio Plastique. Who knows, maybe we will get to see a New Year Miracle.
All the best,
Radio Plastique.
