This wasn't the way this day was supposed to happen...it was meant to be a day of promises, and hugs, and family and friends celebrating together. But perhaps this is the true meaning of marriage: life happens, and plans get turned upside down and the only way through it is the love and strength we give to one another. Kathryn, as she proposes to her true love and her True North, Luke. I love that these two aren't bound by society norms and expectations - they just do what feels right, between them and for them. ⁠
February 29th is known as Bachelor's Day, which is an old Irish tradition which permits a woman to initiate dances and propose marriage on this day. Mind you, if the man refused, he was expected to buy her a silk gown or a fur coat! 👗Luckily for Luke's wallet, he said yes!⁠

It was just around the time the plebiscite was being held. My best friends had been engaged for 14 years ( and I think they had given up hope of ever marrying in Australia).⁠
And when the result was announced, I said to them 'I'm going to become a celebrant - and I'm going to marry you two!"⁠
And not only did I marry them, I was MC at their reception!⁠
