My two greatest creations 💫... and time for a new direction.⁠

Watching .and.xs and grow from creating pieces & patterns for friends to teaching thousands of curious creatives across the globe has been a privilege. The people I have met, the places I have worked and the friends that I have made fill me with joyful memories to last a lifetime. 🥰⁠

The thing I love the most? (Apart from my family 🥰!) Taking time to create for me. The sense of calm and happiness I get from macramé is my mental sanctuary.

This wall hanging multi planter was my personal project throughout my pregnancy and maternity. Made over almost two years, 10 minutes at a time here and there and including 8 months completely untouched, it evolved with me, its intricacies in direct correlation with my headspace at the time. It’s a project woven with love, with patience and even with little hands 🥰

I don’t keep most of my own pieces, I either sell them or give them to people or places that I connect with. And so, when I finished it last week, the time came to find it a home. And I couldn’t think of a better place than with the lovely folk at my local flower & plant shop

If you’re passing, why not pop in and meet the lovely Dale & Kate, and get yourself a gorgeous bouquet of fresh flowers or a lovely new houseplant while you’re at it 🌺 🪴

Life's a weird one isn't it? You spend your childhood being told to plan your future - what you want to study/be or where you want to live (medicine, part time ballerina/part time surgeon, Paris in case you were wondering 😂) - but, when you reach 'the future', it's nothing like the 'plan'.

For 4 years I have worked so damn hard to launch & promote my teaching business single-handedly.

Last week, I was a day away from opening the doors for my signature, online Macramé Masterclass with the plan to go on maternity leave 2 weeks after that.

Last week I then lost my granny, Elizabeth, after 107 years + 9 months of her gracing this world. She was a fiercely independent woman with a passion for the natural world (at one point she was a leading UK authority on both fungi 🍄 & badgers 🦡) who, like me, was the youngest of 3 and a tomboy. She was relentless in her efforts to make sure that I, her only granddaughter, wasn't left out or behind by my brothers & cousins. She was my hero & I can't begin to explain how much I miss her.

Last week, an hour after getting that phone call, the hospital called to say my elective C-section will happen on the 1st June (my due date was the 12th!).⁠
⁠
The past week has been an extremely happy & sad blur all at once but I don't want to miss another second of what's happening in front of me by trying to push through the launch of a Masterclass that is only 98% complete. Not if it's going to be the class I have dreamed of & worked so hard to produce for you.

The Masterclass WILL launch later on, but exactly when I can't say, I'm sorry. For the duration of my mat leave, both my monthly subscription boxes & all my PDF patterns will be available but, for all other items, I'm going Out of Office from today, right now, to spend these last few days with my amazing husband before the biggest moment of our lives together is upon us.⁠

Please accept my apologies for any disappointment re the Masterclass, I know there there are a lot of you looking forward to signing up before the end of May but I hope you understand.

My biggest item I sell at Knots & Xs is my latest design for my DIY shelf kit, measuring 45-50cm in length and 27cm wide. In the words of Police Chief, Martin Brody, from Jaws, 'We're gonna need a bigger boat/bag" (yeah...I had to order bigger bags for this one!)⁠

My smallest item is my magnetic needle minder which I LOOOOOOOOVE and I cannot live without. Cannot.⁠

Planning 🗒️ | I'm pretty sure I have ADD, and writing lists is the one way I have found I can keep on top of things. Especially when you run 2 businesses!⁠

I have 232 lists (🙃) on my phone but trying to remember what I called each one so I can find it is an activity in itself. So I even created a list called 'Most Useful Lists'.⁠
⁠
My favourite way is still with good old pen & paper and I LOVE a good, lined notepad (gotta be lined, not blank or squares). Crossing out each task is the most satisfying thing and makes me feel super productive.⁠

My fave one to use is this nautical one from ⛵️⁠
