Thaipoosam Cavadee is celebrated by the Tamil Community in Mauritius to pay tribute to the god Muruga (the Hindu god of war). The festival is celebrated in the month of Thai ( in the tamil calendar), usually between January and February. Devotees would observe a fast of ten days marked by sacrifice and abstinence.

Mayura which is one of the sacred birds of the Hindu culture. Mayuresvara an incarnation of Ganesha, whose mount is a peacock.The mayura named Citramekhala is associated with Saraswati, a deity representing benevolence, patience, kindness, compassion and knowledge.

Ganesha's elephant head makes him easy to identify. He is worshipped as the lord of beginnings and as the lord of removing obstacles,the patron of arts and sciences, and the god of intellect and wisdom.
