From the age that I could safely use scissors, I assisted my extremely talented floral designer mother cut off thorns and pull the guard petals off roses, wire and wrap boutonnières, and carefully duplicate centerpieces. Our garage would be full of buckets of flowers, shelves of glassware and our a/c would be cranked like an icebox to keep arrangements alive inside. I always loved the thrill of "the big day" because that meant we'd get to do the enormous on-site arrangements and watch a venue become someone's fairytale wedding. I'd help my mom eye out the spots that needed a little something, balance out the greenery, and then marvel at how something that beautiful could even exist. I guess you could say that's where my love for floral design started.
I went on to assist a handful independent florists when they needed a hand--still just a hobby in college that gave me bonus cash here and there. As my friends started getting married and everyone was on a budget, I started doing weddings at cost as a wedding gift. Every wedding had been met with the disbelief that this was merely a "hobby" I did for no other reason that the love of botanicals, design, a beautiful love story, and an epic party--it was something I loved (and might even be good at) but it was definitely not a "thing."
So while I come by it honest, I have also been partially lying to myself that floral design might be more than a hobby.... I guess I'm finally done denying it. Here I am, world. Its officially a "thing"
I'd LOVE to know your story and talk to you about your wedding or event ❤
