The NDIC, acting as the liquidator, has announced its intention to approach the Federal High Court for an order to dissolve these microfinance banks and primary mortgage institutions.

The NDIC’s notice, released on August 23, 2024, outlined that the affected banks either could not be located or had initiated self-liquidation. The NDIC's move will effectively release the Corporation from its role as liquidator of these defunct financial institutions.

Some of the affected banks include Galilee MFB, Pinnacle MFB, and Liberty MFB, spanning across various states from Lagos to Abuja. Keystone Bank's microfinance division is particularly noteworthy in this sweeping action, which signals a significant shake-up in Nigeria's financial landscape.

**Former Governor Rashidi Ladoja Embraces Ibadan Beaded Crown After Seven Years of Resistance**

Rashidi Ladoja, the former governor of Oyo State, has finally accepted the prestigious Ibadan beaded crown after a prolonged seven-year opposition. The historic moment took place on Monday when Bayo Lawal, the acting governor of Oyo State, presented the crown to Ladoja during a ceremony at the palace of Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Ladoja, who holds the title of Otun Olubadan, is one of the 11 high chiefs in line for succession to the Olubadan throne. His acceptance of the beaded crown marks a significant turn of events, given his initial refusal to embrace the title of "His Royal Majesty" associated with the crown.

In a recent interview on Fresh 105.9 FM, Ladoja explained his change of heart, stating that he would accept the beaded crown in a ceremonial capacity if it meant preserving his potential ascension to the Olubadan throne.

**Background**

The journey to this moment began in 2017 when the late Abiola Ajimobi, then-governor of Oyo State, elevated certain high chiefs and baales, granting them the right to wear beaded crowns and be addressed as “His Royal Majesty.” Ladoja, however, opposed the move, citing that it contravened the 1957 Ibadan chieftaincy declaration, which stipulates that there can be only one oba at a time.

Ladoja's resistance led to a legal battle that eventually resulted in the court restoring the status quo. However, the situation evolved when, in June 2023, Governor Seyi Makinde signed the chieftaincy amendment bill into law. This law recognized the 11 high chiefs of Ibadan, who form the Olubadan-in-council, as the traditional heads of the 11 Local Government Areas in Ibadanland, and authorized their coronation as obas.

While all the high chiefs accepted the development, Ladoja remained steadfast in his refusal and was notably absent from the coronation. He subsequently took legal action to challenge the elevation of his fellow high chiefs to obas, arguing that their new status as obas disqualified them from aspiring to the Olubadan throne.

In October 2023, the case reached the courts, but the presiding judge declined to hear it and returned the case file to the chief justice for reassignment. Since then, there has been no public update on the case.

Ladoja’s recent acceptance of the beaded crown marks a new chapter in this ongoing saga, as he prepares to navigate the complex dynamics of Ibadan’s traditional leadership.

43rd Olubadan, Oba Akinloye Olakulehin: A Legacy Rooted in Ancient Ibadan Lineages

His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akinloye Olalere Owolabi Olakulehin, born on July 5, 1935, in Okugbaja Village near Akanran, now part of Ona-Ara Local Government Area in Oyo State, is a figure deeply rooted in the rich heritage of Ibadan. His parents, Pa Ishola-Okin Owolabi and Madam Adunola Aweni Opo Ajilaran Omoyoade Owolabi, hailed from the historic Ita-Baale Olugbode in Ibadan.

On his maternal side, Oba Olakulehin belongs to the Kusidi family, another notable Ibadan lineage with ancestral farmlands in Kusidi village, Egbeda Local Government. Their family home, Ile Kusidi, is situated in the heart of Ibadan at Elekuro. The Kusidi family holds a recognized chieftaincy title in Ibadanland.

Oba Olakulehin's early education began at St. James Primary School in Oke Akaran. He then moved to Ibadan, attending Islamic School, Odoiye, and later completing his primary education at St. Peter Primary School, Aremo. He started his career as a primary school teacher in Wakajaiye, Akobo Area of Ibadan, before pursuing further education at Yaba Technical Institute, specializing in printing and artwork.

In 1959, he joined the Ministry of Works, Western Region Government in Ibadan, starting as a third-class clerk. While working, he continued his studies at Yaba College of Technology, earning both his Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Building. In 1970, he joined the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers through the Direct Short Service Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant, serving under General Olusegun Obasanjo. Rising through the ranks to Major, he held various commanding positions across Nigeria before retiring voluntarily on October 1, 1979.

After his military career, Oba Olakulehin ventured into business, founding FAKOL Nigeria Limited, a building contracting company. He also established a successful printing press, Olakulehin Press (later renamed Solid Prints), and FAKOL Bakery, known for its delicious Fakol Loaves and pastries in Ibadan.

A passionate politician, he co-founded the Social Democratic Party in Oyo State during the Third Republic and was elected as a member of the House of Representatives in 1992, representing Ibadan South East Constituency. He served as Chairman of the House Committee on the Nigerian Army.

In 1983, Oba Olakulehin became Mogaji of the Ige Olakulehin Family in Ita-Baale, Ibadan North East Local Government. He was later installed as the Jaagun Balogun of Ibadan Land in 1986 by Oba Oloyede Asanke. In 2006, he joined the Olubadan-In-Council under Oba Yinusa Bankole Ogundipe and served as Head of the Traditional Council in various local governments before becoming the Balogun of Ibadan in 2016.

Following the Olubadan-In-Council's directive, Oba Olakulehin retired from active politics to focus on the welfare of the people of Ibadan and its environs. He is a devoted family man, a committed Christian, and a staunch supporter of Ibadan’s diverse clans, families, communities, and businesses.

Oba Akinloye Olakulehin's life story is a testament to his dedication to his roots and his tireless efforts to uplift Ibadan and its people.
