The NDIC, acting as the liquidator, has announced its intention to approach the Federal High Court for an order to dissolve these microfinance banks and primary mortgage institutions.

The NDIC’s notice, released on August 23, 2024, outlined that the affected banks either could not be located or had initiated self-liquidation. The NDIC's move will effectively release the Corporation from its role as liquidator of these defunct financial institutions.

**Former Governor Rashidi Ladoja Embraces Ibadan Beaded Crown After Seven Years of Resistance**

Rashidi Ladoja, the former governor of Oyo State, has finally accepted the prestigious Ibadan beaded crown after a prolonged seven-year opposition. The historic moment took place on Monday when Bayo Lawal, the acting governor of Oyo State, presented the crown to Ladoja during a ceremony at the palace of Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Ladoja, who holds the title of Otun Olubadan, is one of the 11 high chiefs in line for succession to the Olubadan throne. His acceptance of the beaded crown marks a significant turn of events, given his initial refusal to embrace the title of "His Royal Majesty" associated with the crown.

In a recent interview on Fresh 105.9 FM, Ladoja explained his change of heart, stating that he would accept the beaded crown in a ceremonial capacity if it meant preserving his potential ascension to the Olubadan throne.

**Background**

The journey to this moment began in 2017 when the late Abiola Ajimobi, then-governor of Oyo State, elevated certain high chiefs and baales, granting them the right to wear beaded crowns and be addressed as “His Royal Majesty.” Ladoja, however, opposed the move, citing that it contravened the 1957 Ibadan chieftaincy declaration, which stipulates that there can be only one oba at a time.

Ladoja's resistance led to a legal battle that eventually resulted in the court restoring the status quo. However, the situation evolved when, in June 2023, Governor Seyi Makinde signed the chieftaincy amendment bill into law. This law recognized the 11 high chiefs of Ibadan, who form the Olubadan-in-council, as the traditional heads of the 11 Local Government Areas in Ibadanland, and authorized their coronation as obas.

While all the high chiefs accepted the development, Ladoja remained steadfast in his refusal and was notably absent from the coronation. He subsequently took legal action to challenge the elevation of his fellow high chiefs to obas, arguing that their new status as obas disqualified them from aspiring to the Olubadan throne.

In October 2023, the case reached the courts, but the presiding judge declined to hear it and returned the case file to the chief justice for reassignment. Since then, there has been no public update on the case.

Ladoja’s recent acceptance of the beaded crown marks a new chapter in this ongoing saga, as he prepares to navigate the complex dynamics of Ibadan’s traditional leadership.
