Was so inspired seeing all the incredible artwork at this weekend that I finally bought some pens! Already learnt so much from just watching all the artists, big shout out to everyone who took part!

How I haven’t used posca pens before is an absolute shock! Another material added to my mixed media roster.

Also sooooo happy to be able to be back in the garden creating artwork!

Feels good to be back in the office with the sun shining through the window!

I love keeping this piece up on the easel at it matches the warm but fresh feeling of my studio/office space. It also gets to make an appearance in the back of my zoom calls, which has been the topic of many conversations.

If anything, this is an appreciation post for this piece and all the crazy layers, mark making and techniques I got to use on it. Swipe for a close up!

Red for V day?
Nothing but love for my old blue vintage type writer. Bought as a gift to myself last year, I don’t get to use it often but when I do it’s fantastic! It has a special place on my desk ❤️

Anyone want to be my pen pal? Or I guess type pal?

This road was actually one that I drew back in 2020 when I first moved to Bristol. I didn’t really have a particular style, I didn’t know what I was really into and I was just drawing what inspired me. The original drawing of this road is actually a rainbow coloured piece in oil pastel that I love dearly.

Re-visiting this road now in 2022, it’s fun to see how my style has changed, progressed, evolved and I’m really enjoying combining my colourful abstract work with my more detailed pen work.

This isn’t finished yet but I’m definitely getting there.

More colourful shapes & matchboxes! Whilst I’m working on finishing off my new pen drawings (thanks for the kind feedback on my last post), here are some other pieces that are in the works.

Sometimes I worry that my pieces don’t all make sense together, but visiting the last week, and seeing ‘s installment especially, I realised that it’s more about a bigger collection as opposed to comparing two individual pieces.

Although I don’t have the space to see everything in a collection, things are starting to piece together in my head. Fingers crossed at some point I’ll be able to share that vision!

Something slightly different - I’m working on combining my love for colours, freeform and texture with my love of cityscapes and lines.

Im interested in the weird relationship we have between wanting to work hard, sometimes too much and also creating spaces for us to flourish creatively whilst allocating time to recharge. It’s something I always have to consider and it’s something I am exploring in my work this year. How can we balance both?

More shapes & my garden fence!

Match boxes seems to be a new regular feature in a lot of my pieces. I love the way they look but I’m not going to lie they’re a pain to paint on top of!

Next up: trying out primers, wall filler and other layering techniques to make the match boxes more manageable! The shiny surface is a killer.

New colours & new shapes! Still a work in progress but I’m enjoying the vibrancy a lot 🌞

Wall filler, watercolour, acrylic, pencil, oil pastel - the whole lot.

I’ve also been told this looks like a fork, a vi****or and a gene, so take from it what you will 😂

After bidding on eBay and winning over 500 old match boxes (I didn’t think I’d win them all but I’m glad I did) - I am finding fun ways to integrate them. Next plan is to secure them to two massive canvases I got for our living room and paint some big shapes in neutrals and blues.

‘Exploring Malago’
A3, oil pastels.

Summer 2020 I spent my time exploring Bristol and making it my home, this year I will be doing the same but in Bologna, Italy!

If you haven’t heard me drop it into conversation yet, then this is the news! I will be spending 50% of my time in the UK and 50% in Bologna. We’ve booked the coolest flat with many windows to look at terracotta coloured roofs and I have already bought many travel sketchbooks to trial.

Can anyone recommend some galleries or places to draw?

I’ve been exploring match boxes as a base material. Stuck on Khadi cotton rag paper, using some new shapes!

For the start of this year I’m taking a time out from hanging and selling new pieces of artwork. I want to think about who I am as an artist, what things excite me and explore shapes and materials.

When selling your artwork it’s so easy to get in your head about presenting things in the right way or leaning into styles or colours you think people might prefer. I want to prevent myself from falling into this mindset and take the time to explore what I what I enjoy, share it in this space I have created and *only* sell it when I have finished a particular series/ set of designs.
