I'm trying to reach out to someone who was once my best friend. I unintentionally soured the relationship, and while I deeply regret my actions, it is now really important I contact him, as I'm having repressed memories surfacing and they are disturbing and frightening. I would like to know what light, if any, he can shed on it.

His name is Richard Mark Piper and WAS living in a suburb of Kansas City, KS, I believe in the Mission KS area.

Coronavirus is ebbing, summer is here, and we're ALL suffering Cabin Fever, needing to get out and DO something.

Grassland Estates has already begun, TWICE, with an outdoor Carnival and a Showcase Event. Memories Karaoke was fortunate to provide the entertainment.

WE'RE BACK!! Coronavirus notwithstanding, we are once again providing Music Therapy to the seniors of Wichita. New equipment, posters, lighting, etc.

BIGGER AND BETTER! More of what helps seniors feel like they're back in the '70's.

First gig is Grassland Estates on June 26 at 2:00. ALL of Wichita's Quality of Life Directors and Activities Directors have been invited. Door prizes, drawings, and apparently a class of VIPs that will receive some kind of gift for attending.

With the coronavirus ebbing and summer coming I'm happy to say Memories Karaoke is up and running again. 🎶😎🎤. We've made several upgrades on our equipment - 2 100-watt black light spotlights, more posters, more lava lamps, new plasma ball, a laser light, etc.

Our first 2 gigs are scheduled and the phone is ringing. If YOU want to be a part just msg me here and we'll make it happen 😃.

FROM MEMORIES KARAOKE

AN OPEN LETTER TO OUR CLIENTS!

As we approach the end of our 2nd month of it only seems appropriate to say “Thank You” for having helped make these first 60 days so successful! We have had the privilege of entertaining at several different locations in and around Wichita, and are receiving inquiries regarding the summer.

The enthusiasm with which Memories Karaoke has been received has been inspiring. And with each event we learn and grow to be more responsive to needs of the residents of each specific facility.

When we originally conceived Memories Karaoke it was an idea to play music and perform for seniors, who are all too often overlooked. What we have discovered is a world of entertainment targeted towards our seniors, much of which is memory-therapeutic.

With the advent of Music Therapy as a recognized treatment, we have adapted to present an atmosphere to stimulate high school memories

Using lighting, posters, and music from the '40's, '50's and '60's we attempt to recreate 'a Friday night as a senior in high school'. The introduction is an invitation for all to close their eyes for a moment and remember what it was like to be in high school again. To imagine ”...it's a magic Friday night in high school. Your week is over, your work is done. You have just snuck into your favorite bar using your favorite fake ID and you're sitting at a table sharing a pitcher with the best friends you ever had! There's the music, the lighting, the posters! NOW OPEN YOUR EYES AND REMEMBER!”

I then go right into a late '60's song by Jay and Americans called, “This Magic Moment”.

The rest of the performance consists of requested music, dancing, and an occasional karaoke song when appropriate! And the results have been truly rewarding for Memories Karaoke! People leave their walkers and wheel chairs and dance! They get up and sing! They laugh and smile and interact with each other and obviously enjoy the time spent.

None of this would be possible without your having allowed us into your facility to entertain your residents. Thank you. We take that privilege very seriously.

We look forward to a great summer serving the entertainment needs of yourselves and your residents. Memories Karaoke does outdoor and indoor events. Please take a moment to 'LIKE' our Memories Karaoke page and watch it for future dates as they are booked.

I just finished watching an inspiration. Anyone ever heard of a movie called, "Alive Inside" on Netflix? It's about music therapy and its' applications. Here's the link:

Most of us know dementia, in its' many forms, robs us of what is most dear to us....what is sometimes all we have left....our memories. Of Family, of Career, of Friends....our memories. Much as a PC's file path has been lost, so has the 'file paths' to our memory files become corrupted. You PC says, "File Pathway Not Found" and your brain does its' equivalent.
You cannot access the file by that pathway any longer, but you know the file IS there. You can't access the memory any longer, but the memory IS still there.

And just as another file path can be found on a PC, MUSIC CAN HELP ESTABLISH NEW PATHWAYS TO THOSE MISSING MEMORY'S. Particularly if the memory is associated with a specific song, genre, or period of music history.

The music CAN sometimes trigger recall, and in the vast number of cases it helps calm and sooth the person. This movie is about how simple, yet how essential, music is for dementia.

And we have the opportunity to help.

Things are heating up. We have 7 shows booked for February, and I NEED SINGERS. It doesn't really do what we need it to with only me. We need someone to get requests from the residents, we need someone to mingle and take pictures (same person?), we need someone besides me to encourage residents and staff to pick up the mic by singing, too.

More than one singer will help accomplish all this.

No money yet, but IF you want to help, you are needed ASAP for coordination, etc, etc.

The mech still has no idea what the problem with the SUV is or why it won't start. Now I need to cancel my 8:00 AM DR's appt and STILL need transportation, not just for the show, but for Sherri's DR's appt on Wednesday.

My Hyundai Tuscon has decided it will not start. Had it towed Friday, but the shop can not get to it until Monday, Jan 27.

We have a gig at Kansas Masonic Home on Jan 29th, two days later. If there is ANY delay in fixing the ride......

Our first gig is at Kansas Masonic Home this Wednesday at 2:00.

Yesterday my Tuscon went to the shop. It won't start. Mech can't look at it till Monday, so it may not be available for the gig, and I need it to haul equipment.

Anyone volunteer to help with equipment IF necessary? 🎤🎶🚚

Finally got in touch with Lakepoint and we have a gig there that MAY lead to a full-time monthly gig. Expect a solid date for this one in the next day or two.

So who's up for this one? You'll need to have three songs ready and be prepared to interact with the residents a bit more than when singing in a bar (LOL!). It will be an abbreviated show, about 1 - 1 1/2 hour freebie.

Lakepoint is part of an organization called Omega Sr Living. In addition to Wichita, they have El Dorado, Augusta, and all across the state.

With the number of singers and DJ's expressing interest, Memories Karaoke Group is the one place I can guarantee to post all of them.

And only those of us who are an active part of this will be in that group to ensure there is AT LEAST one place we can all go for the scoop.

Thanks again for everyone who has expressed an interest. To date, we have three gigs getting lined up now and four others I have to get nailed down as to dates.

The ULTIMATE GOAL in all this is the creation of a state-wide 'association' of DJ's and Karaoke Singers who will give of their time to entertain our seniors.

THEY DESERVE IT!!

And 2 last thoughts to this post.....

1. Just because your body MUST 'age', does NOT mean you have to get 'old'!!!

2. Just because you reach a certain 'age', does NOT mean you have to stop having fun!!

For those who have expressed a serious interest in our project, I need to remind all of you the new Memories Karaoke GROUP. The Group will have all the latest information on performance opportunities and established gigs.

Things are starting to heat up. Today alone, we have one new show booked and two others calling us back this afternoon.

And as always, singers and DJ's are welcome!! There is a tremendous amount of satisfaction when you see someone using a walker leave it, walk over to someone in a wheel chair, and they start dancing together!

Today's the day. Memories Karaoke FIRST official "gig" at Oxford Manor in Wichita. 3:30 - 5:00. Jenna is performing at this one, as it's only 1 1/2 hours instead of the full session. Very excited about this. We really need to make a 'smash' impression 'right out of the gate', so to speak. I know Jenna will shine! :-) Now to work on concentrating on entertaining the crowd instead of worrying about 'what if's' in relation to this. Wish us luck, All. :-) - Doug
