Hello, It’s time that I introduce myself. I am Mari (short from Mart-Mari) the person behind Mart-Mari Weddings & Events. I’m originally from South Africa but I am now living in Cyprus
with my husband, daughter and our 3 adopted cats. I help make wedding experiences come to life for couples planning a European celebration.

After completing my studies in Tourism and Event management and working in corporate events for a few years, I left South Africa to live and work in the Middle East, where I also met my best friend, biggest fan and my now husband. I worked on private yachts, creating amazing experiences, meeting wonderful people and seeing beautiful countries. You can say that I truly love to travel.

After we got married in South Africa we moved to Kuala Lumpur where we lived for 5 years before moving to Cyprus.
Cyprus is also the place I call home now for the past 5 years, where we are raising our daughter and I started pursuing my life calling - planning weddings in Europe.

Things that make me happy:
1. Pineapple (sometimes banana) on Pizza is a must!
2. Throwing a good party
3. Crème Brulee
4. Ice cold rose and seafood meze with a view
5. Cuddles with my little girl
6. A trip to Pulau Rawa to escape, listening to Matt Simons Catch & Release

The day has finally arrived!
I am so excited to introduce Mart-Mari Weddings & Events. It’s been a journey of inspiration and soul searching. Realising who I want to work with and how I want to do what I love. All this was made possible with the oh-so-talented who guided me with my new brand. I am forever grateful for you two superstars!

Aspirational, Adventurous with a bit of fun. It’s for couples who want to skip the traditional aspects of a wedding and are looking to incorporate their lifestyle into their celebrations. Where you want to create a fun experience and a party atmosphere for your guest. A destination celebration surrounded by your loved ones and your close friends who will see every aspect of your life at your wedding.
I believe that your wedding should be like your home, – something that makes you feel completely comfortable, allows you to be yourself whilst visually representing you, and bring elements of you to life.

We are celebrating Greek Orthodox Easter this weekend. I'm feeling all things yellow and mustard here because the Mimosas and Billy Buttons aka Craspedia are in full bloom. They are currently my favorite flowers.

This is my favourite photo from my wedding day. It was taken when my dad and I took the very long walk to the ceremony site. At that moment it was just me and him for the last time, before I got married. I had a close look at this photo as I was holding so tightly onto my dad to make sure he's OK. I remember telling him we are OK and we will not cry today. Deep down knowing he was the one holding me together and making sure I was OK. He was letting his only girl go that day and trying really hard to be brave.
To my dad, love you always.

Oh, how I want my word space to look like this - or sort of. BUT, the reality is it's a bit of a mess here where I am at the moment.
I've had my kitchen renovated, but it's still not done, so with a kitchen that has been displaced all over the house, take aways for the past few weeks and throw in a 4.5 year old with the C- word - Chaos!

Thankfully I am still getting things done that I love and keeping my sanity because in the end, it will be worth it!

Today I am focusing on weddings in Italy. I'm drawing inspiration from all the beauty and feelings Italy brings to mind. I'm, even using my very basic (read amateur) cooking skills to make an Italian dinner.
Italy has so much to offer. Where old-fashioned qualities such as elegance, courtesy, and charm become more than a mere fantasy.

Let's focus on what we CAN do instead of what we can't.
I met with an editorial destination wedding photographer who I can now call a friend. Immensely driven and loves to tell a story - your story. He asked me about my why, and long story short, it was the drive to focus on what I could do for the wedding of a couple, instead of telling them, no you can't. It was getting past the disappointment but instead finding new initiative ways to make dreams possible.

Yesterday was my 8th year anniversary to this amazing man!
I Can't believe it's been 8 years already! It still feels like yesterday I walked down the aisle to meet my happily ever after! He's my rock, my hero, my wingman, The sensible brain in the relationship, my advisor, and my biggest supporter of all my dreams! Every time I see him, I still get butterflies in my stomach!

One question we’ve seen being asked all the time is “What questions do I ask the venue?” Today, we wanted to share the answer and some tips when searching for your perfect venue and hopefully save a few of you some trouble!

Make Sure the venue is large enough to accommodate all your guests.

If the venue is just a bit out of your budget, consider having your wedding on a weekday, Friday or Sunday instead of Saturday. Some venues will have a discount if you book accommodation with them as well.

Keep in mind your theme of your venue. If you’re planning a romantic rustic wedding, a black and white modern ballroom will certainly clash with your wedding style.

Plan B! If you have an outdoor ceremony or reception, make sure the venue has a back up location in the case it suddenly rains on your wedding day.

Make sure you know in advance if your venue allows only certain vendors to work at their venue before you confirm other suppliers. Also, check if they charge additional cost if you bring a suppliers that’s not on their preferred list.
