HIGHLIGHTS of the trip 🗺✨
➡️ Castle of Diósgyőr 🕌
The Castle of Diósgyőr is a medieval castle in the historical town of Diósgyőr which is now part of the Northern Hungarian city Miskolc. The first Castle of Diósgyőr was built probably in the 12th century and was destroyed during the Mongol invasion (1241–42). The current, Gothic castle was built after the invasion and reached the peak of its importance during the reign of King Louis the Great (1342-1382). Later it became a wedding gift for the queens of Hungary, which it remained until the Ottoman invasion of Hungary in the 16th century.
➡️ Hámori lake at Lillafüred 🏞
The one and a half kilometers long and nine meters deep Hámori Lake was first mentioned in a certificate issued in 1319, it was called "Feltó-halastó" (Upper fishpond) then. The present lake was evolved by increasing the water yield of Szinva and Garadna by the dam, the design of which was one of the most important achievements of 18-19th century engineering. It was needed because of the water shortage of Hámori Iron Plant was becoming constant. By the time the new smelter was put into operation by Frigyes Fazola in Újmassa in 1813, the dam had been already ready. The water of the lake was used to drive the machinery of plants built under the lake.
Between 1932-1944, swimming was allowed in Hámori Lake, and in the 1930s, Hotel Palota offered the facility to sailing in the lake. Boating was already available for visitors in the 19th century, and in winters, the frozen lake could be used for ice skating.
➡️ Miskolctapolca Cave Bath 🌊
It has been excavated and channelled by water from hard stone cliff during thousands of years. The Cave bath of Miskolctapolca is unique in Europe. It is an unmatchable experience to bath in the swimming pool covered by nature, that has a nice temperature thermal water arisen from the depth of mountain, and to enjoy clear, fine air. Many swear on curative power of cave bath, first of all thanks to nice and medicinal cave climate and warm karst water.
➡️ Tündérkert (Fairy Garden) 🌿
This beautiful park with carousels is a place where you can really feel the magic in the air!
