What are a few other jobs that I do on your wedding day that you don’t always see?

1) liaise with other vendors to ensure everyone is on the same page and ready for go time!
2) coax guests into sitting down - they always leave seats empty and I have to reel ‘em in nice and close
3) warm the crowd up - practice laughs and applause 👏🏼
4) hand out confetti AND give nice clear instructions on when to throw! 😂

Thanks for the snaps

This wedding was close to home (literally....Ben's parents are our neighbours - 😂)

Ben and his beautiful family (including Jen) worked tirelessly on getting this family property ready for their big event and it could not have been more perfect.

There is something so special about marrying people on family properties - all those years of happy memories that are held in the space means that the energy is so warm and welcoming. I could tell when I left that they were in for a great BIG party and that was confirmed I heard the music until the wee hours. What an awesome fun group of people.

Apart from being ridiculously good looking - this pair have a soul connection that runs so deep, you feel like they have been together in many lifetimes before this wedding. It was on honour to be a small part of their love story.

17.2.23 ❤️

I kind of go way back with these cuties. My husband and I got together the same year that they did and we have lots of mutual friends. When I first met them I had crushes on both of them 🙊 - you can see why here in these pics 👆🏼😮 look at them!!!

But their relationship goes back a bit further. Picture a couple of cute, awkward 14 year olds showing up to Youth Group. 'How good is church???' Was Ash's first thought when she laid eyes on the surfy guy with blonde flicky hair and Mitch said he was pretty gone from Day 1. They dated briefly but they were so young and had some growing up to do. But they always stayed on each other's radar and much to all their friends' relief and happiness, they got their act together 10 years ago and have been pretty much inseparable ever since.

What Ash and Mitch have in good looks they also have ten fold in deliciousness and gorgeousness of hearts. They are just the most caring, beautiful souls and I am so bloody happy that they found each other.

Swipe across to the end for a pic of the 4 of us when we ran into Ash and Mitch in Bali 10 years ago!

F L O R A L S
I will absolutely confess I know nothing about flowers but ☝️ I know what I like when I see it - like most of us.

When choosing a florist for my wedding I went with someone trusted, with a good reputation, who did beautiful work I had seen.

I’ll be honest our florals weren’t cheap, but they were worth every dollar as they truly made our day beautiful, (I’ll share my wedding day pics another time but you’ll see!)

Top tip when working with a trusted florist -trust them to exercise their creative flair, while listening to what you want.

Great example of local talent here, Britt decorated a tree at this backyard wedding recently and the result was this magic 🙌🏼

Pets and weddings?
Yes please!!!

I love when couples choose to include their pets in their special day 🥹 You never really know how is going to go 🤷🏻‍♀️ but that just adds to the fun of it!

Here are a couple of pics of very special furry friends who have been amazing ring bearers at my ceremonies ❤️

Meet one of my couples!!

This is Sam and Anwyn. I have known Anwyn for years through mutual friends, they live in Sydney and they contacted me when they decided to get married up north of Coffs Harbour not far from where I live.

It was my first wedding and I was so nervous, and it absolutely poured down with rain halfway through the ceremony so we laughed and laughed and they were such troopers about it all.

They are the most beautiful couple and their guests just buzzed with joy for them on their special day.

They say you never forget your first and they ain’t wrong!!

About me….

Why did I become a celebrant? Honest truth is that I got married to a farmer, left the corporate world in Sydney and was looking for a new job. 🤷🏻‍♀️
When my good friend married us I thought ‘this is the best job in the world!!!’ So I became a celebrant!

That might be why I started this 4 years ago, but I stayed in this job because I get the greatest amount of joy connecting with people and helping them get hitched.

I’m an empath, so when you and your guests feel ALL the love on your wedding day, I feel it in my soul! And I walk away buzzing for a minimum of 24 hours (usually more) after every ceremony ❤️

If I could sum up Ben & Caity's wedding in a few words they would be: torrential rain, record number of laughs, insanely fun crew of friends and family and YOUNG LOVE!

I was blown away when I met Ben and Caity by their maturity at such a young age - they both have their heads screwed on and have achieved so much already in their relatively short lives including buying their first home already! But when I met their gorgeous family and friends everything fell into place -the most amazing group of people, with beautiful strong values, who also happen to know how to party. 💃🏻 🕺🏻

Ben and Caity met at the tender age of 16 when Caity's dad Michael hired Ben as an apprentice - little did he know he was hiring his future son in law. But both families just adore their son and daughter in law and along with their friends who are like family. We celebrated this union in style, under the torrential March rain. I loved being able to stick around for the evening and MC the event - incase you can't tell from these photos I had an absolute blast at this wedding and did not stop laughing 😂

To say your own Vows or not to....

This can be a toughie for couples to decide (and agree on!) but I always say to couples if the stress and anxiety of having to speak in front of everyone is going to take away enjoyment from your ceremony, let's do something else.

A couple of options:
1. Write vows for each other but have me read them out for you
2. Write and share vows for each other before the ceremony in private
2. Forgo the vows and just write in your questionnaire what you love about your special person, and I will weave it seamlessly into your ceremony.

Vows can be beautiful but don't let the stress ruin your mellow vibe on your
Wedding Day ❤️

Note - I will always exit stage right if you do share vows so you have that moment alone ❤️

What does it mean to me to Acknowledge the Country I stand on?

I watched a Ted Talk last year on an Acknowledgement of Country and how it can become a few 'obligatory' words we say as part of a ceremony. The speaker explained that if you always use the same words, it becomes robotic, it can sound like a task you are ticking off and nobody listens to the words and connects to the meaning. And this really resonated with me. ❤️

Since living and working on Gumbaynggirr Country I have grown a deep respect for the land and the people who have occupied it for tens of thisandw of years. It has become very important to me to honour the traditional owners of any land I stand on in a meaningful way.

Anyone who has been to a few of my ceremonies may notice I use slightly different wording each time when I say an Acknowledgement to Country - it changes and evolves depending on the couple, where I am and what saying those words mean to me in that moment. I am always grateful for the opportunity to occupy the space and hold a ceremony - recognising both the strength and vulnerability of the land and always being in awe of its beauty.

Like many couples I work with, we did all of our coordinating over zoom and didn't actually meet in person until the day before at their rehearsal! but it was so comfortable and easy to get to know Bronte and Ciaran because of their warm and open demeanour.

They met as a couple of teenagers just starting out at uni - the lecture theatre was their romantic meeting point. The beautiful thing about when love starts young is that the couple get to grow together and experience all the firsts of life as a team. They have certainly done just that, their love has grown and moulded them into a finely tuned couple of hearts that have a soul connection.

The guests at their wedding were a LOT of fun - they were all so excited to travel here, to the Nambucca Valley for the destination wedding of the year! And I have no doubt that they partied hard well into the night.

I can't wait to see what adventures lie ahead for these free spirited Newlyweds!

I HAVE SOME WEEKENDS AVAILABLE IN 2023

Hey lovers, friends and family - I am so excited to be already taking bookings for 2024, but I still have some space left this year so I thought I should jump on here to let you know what dates I have left for this year.

If you are looking or know someone who is looking for a celebrant in 2023, please reach out as soon as possible as nothing makes me more disappointed than telling someone I am booked out on the date they want!

2.12.22 ❤️

I first met Luke and Emily over zoom and sometimes when you meet online it can be a little awkward but honestly the comfort level I had with them was so high - I warmed to them immediately and could feel their connection through the screen. 🖥️

They both have such a warmth and kindness about them and their family and friends were so excited that they were finally tying the knot.

Luke has a calming and grounding influence on Emily that keeps her cool in stressful times and Emily is always encouraging Luke and showing him a different perspective in life. They balance each other out perfectly. 🫶🏼

And when Luke laid eyes on the stunning Emily in her dress, the emotion took over... As I watched him looking at her with so much love in his eyes, I got a big 'ole lump in my throat! 🥹

And whilst I didn’t plan in advance to write this on Anzac Day it seems very fitting as this couple are both Australian Defence Force Personnel- so today and every day, thank you for your service and ❤️

What will I offer you as a celebrant? I’ll offer my ability to connect with the two of you, my ability to tell your love story in a meaningful way, my connection to the land that I work on, my heart and my soul felt love for this job. ❤️

You and your love story is the primary focus of the ceremony, but I’ll bring my passion for the work that I am so grateful to do 🙏🏼

Shelley, Jake & lil pup Ollie
30.3.23 ❤️

When Shelley and Jake contacted me in January this year to enquire about eloping, their first question was 'can make this happen in 3 months?' to which i responded 'absolutely!'

Their love story pretty much told itself - how they connected so instantly and deeply when they met, like they had known each other for years, how their relationship was built on a foundation of mutual compromise, respect and deep heartfelt love for one another. They are just the sweetest!

Elopements can be the most beautiful, intimate expression of love and I felt so honoured to facilitate this ceremony in front of their immediate family.

When they said they wanted their pup Ollie to be ring bearer, none of us knew how that would go 😳 but he was absolute perfection, stepped up the task and had us all loving him to bits!!! 🥹❤️

I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my 4 year anniversary of being a celebrant!

Yesterday I travelled south for my 3rd wedding in the same group of mates.
Josh snd Aly finally got hitched after 3 years of waiting 🙈🥹❤️
These are the 4 others that I married last year.

I have bloody loved getting to know this gorgeous group of humans and their family and friends - you’re not just clients, your friends of mine, you’re stuck with me for life and I adore you all.

And before you ask, it wasn’t a colour themed wedding, we just accidentally matched each other 😂

So whose wedding is next???

4.11.22 ❤️

Nathan and Laura's love story was one of true destiny. 💫 Laura needed a hand building a flatpack, so she put a post on Facebook and her friend tagged.... you guessed it... Nathan. He swooped in to the rescue and has been taking care of Laura ever since. Laura got more than a helping hand that day, she got the love of her life. They both knew fairly immediately that they had found the one.

There was not a dry eye anywhere when Laura’s Dad walked her down OR when Nathan and Laura shared beautiful the vows they had written for each other. When we first met, Laura wanted to make it very clear to me that they were not a mushy lovey dovey couple, 😂 but that did not mean that a lot of emotions were not felt and seen between the two of them. You're love for each is so strong and inspiring.

Guys - I am so happy that the universe brought you together because you truly are soulmates. And while I left corny lines like that out of your ceremony script, it's just the truth. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I felt so honoured to be a small part of your big love story - I know you have so many years of happiness ahead of you.

Let’s talk about
W I T N E S S E S

The only legal requirement with regards to witnesses to your marriage is that you have two people over the age of 18 to witness and sign the paperwork.

Traditionally it was 'The Best Man' and 'Maid of Honour' who did the honours (and often still do) but I always let couples know you can ask whoever you want - allowing for some creativity and inclusion of people who wouldn't otherwise play an active role the ceremony.

Here are some alternative options:
❤️ Grandparents
❤️ Mothers
❤️ Fathers
❤️ Relatives like cousins or siblings
❤️ Close friends that are not in the bridal party

Also ask me about 'Surprise Witnesses' or 'Witness Lottery' where we actually decide on who your witnesses will be during the ceremony. Putting a bit of fun and excitement into the experience for your guests... and you!

About me

My decision to become a celebrant was driven by the fact that I strongly believe in the institution of marriage. I have always loved weddings the way that the ceremony brings people together to celebrate love.

The decision to become authorised to marry people myself was cemented after my own wedding last year, in which my good friend (and well known Wollongong celebrant Jamie Borg) performed the ceremony. Jamie did such a great job and made me think ‘If I can bring half as much joy to couple’s as Jamie and my wedding did, I can spend the rest of my working days enjoying complete job satisfaction and a heart that is always smiling.’ Wow, what a special thought.

I believe that love is love, and I am thrilled to be able to marry anyone of any gender.

If you are getting married, I would be honoured to play the pivotal part of a celebrant in your day and guide you both through the legal aspects of making this commitment.
