Save Money Sunday - coming at ya!

Todays Tip:

Skip the boutonnieres, which can set you back $300+.

Encourage your partner and those in the wedding party to sport pocket squares instead for that little extra pop without the huge pricetag.

We often refer to getting married as "tying the knot" but do you know why?

In the folklore of many cultures around the world, knots make an appearance as a symbol of unity. And while this phrase could stem from a symbolic knot, physical knots have actually been used in marriage ceremonies.

The wedding tradition is called handfasting. It is an ancient Celtic practice that bands couples together with a piece of cloth tied around their hands.

Some fun facts for you about weddings in other countries!

Searching for Ms. Right in Germany?

In some small villages in Germany, grooms aren’t guaranteed that their brides will make it to the altar on time—or at all. Kidnapping the bride is an old custom, beloved by pranksters, and friends of the betrothed. After the bride’s friends kidnap her, the groom is tasked with looking for his one true love. The best hunting grounds (of course) are pubs. There, the locals might provide clues, provided they are invited to the wedding. If the invite isn’t forthcoming, custom demands that the brideless groom pick up the bar tab—for the entire pub. (Brides used to be routinely kidnapped, around the world. Seriously!)

Wedding tip tuesday!

Our advice?

Make sure the things you spend money on can be reused

Don’t have bride and groom etched on your flutes and toasting glasses. The same rule applies to serving pieces.

If you must get something engraved, make it your initials, or last name or even a family crest and then you have an heirloom.

Why hire a wedding planner or day of coordinator?

Because its our JOB to make sure your wedding goes perfectly.

The week before your day we are calling vendors to confirm arrival times, tweaking the day of timeline, picking up linens, helping with décor and the list goes on.

And on the big day we are steaming the bridal gown, pinning boutonnieres, making sure that the timelines are being met, making sure there are no spots on the glasses or silverware, allowing gum to be spit out in our hands before the ceremony, dealing with any situations that arise, and the list goes on and on and on there as well!

Save Money Sunday! And today's topic is Wedding Dresses!

Pro Tip:

Follow your favorite local bridal salons on social media to find out about trunk shows, sample sales and also to catch promotions like 10 percent off your gown, 20 percent off jewelry or a free veil with gown purchase!

Probably our top pet peeve.

#1 on the list.

Is when those who attend a wedding post the photos immediately on social media.

AND THIS GOES FOR VENDORS TOO!

Unless the couple specifically asks guests to post pictures to social media or their wedding site, do not post any photos from a wedding on social media until after the couple does. And do not livestream the event under any circumstances. Also, make sure to follow any other social media guidelines the couple may have, such as using a specific hashtag, tagging the bride and groom, or not posting the location. Wedding etiquette goes both ways, of course, and the couple themselves should follow these etiquette rules to make sure the day is a pleasant experience for their guests!

Some Advice from us to those of you who may be a guest at a wedding in the coming year !

Not RSVP’ing is one of the biggest wedding etiquette mistakes you can make. Couples base the entire day (and budget!) on their guest count, so it really is unacceptable to turn up without notice. Completely fill out and promptly return your RSVP—digitally or through the mail, per the instructions provided by the couple. Add a sweet little wedding wish if you want to. But just return it! Or at the very least send a quick text to let the couple know you'll be there !

A bit of advice - wedding drama is inevitable.

So we suggest keeping the lines of communication open to address conflicts.

Emotional issues arise around weddings. Don’t go into denial about problems, but instead address them directly. If you have divorced parents who argue at family gatherings, ask them to set aside their differences for your one big day. Ask if single friends would like to bring a friend as a plus one. Let everyone know you’re open to listen (within reason), but that you may not be able to fix all issues. Then listen with empathy when people come to you.

Wedding tip Tuesday - commin in hot !

We ALWAYS recommend having a seating chart for your wedding.

A seating chart will help simplify everyone finding a seat. Having so many guests scout out empty seats on their own could make for a messy free-for-all.

Once you finalize the guest list, start assigning seats using a free seating planning tool such as Social Tables, colorful sticky tabs on a paper chart, or a spreadsheet.

Seat friends or family who don’t get along away from each other. But avoid putting them under the ‘Exit’ signs on opposite sides of the ballroom — this will be too obvious.

Some quick advice :

Get a grip on the approximate number of guests you'll invite before settling on a venue.

This will ensure there's ample space for your crew.

As a rule of thumb, allow for 25 to 30 square feet per guest. That may seem like a lot, but it's really not if you count the space you'll need for the tables, bustling waiters, the band or DJ, and a dance floor.

!!SAVE MONEY SUNDAY!!

Love the look of letterpress for your wedding invitation suite, but not the price? Splurge on it for the main invitation but choose less-expensive flat printing for insert cards and you could save as much as $500 per 100 invitations.

One thing we typically take care of for our brides but that we get a lot of questions about is Hotel blocks!

For those who don't know what that is! Typically the couple will Reserve blocks of rooms at a hotel (or hotels) for guests who are traveling.

You can put this information in your wedding invites and on your wedding website. You can also connect guests with family members who are amenable.

Once you’ve provided the information, put this out of your mind. People can manage the details themselves — you have enough on your plate.

Not a fan of the traditional seating chart you see at most weddings?

Here's an idea :

Gather flattering pictures of all your guests and order prints.

Put the table numbers in the corner of the photos using a gold or silver permanent marker or if youre feeling up to it cut them with vinyl!

It creates a family-style vibe, and people will spot their faces faster than they’d find their names, so it streamlines guest arrival!

ATTENTION for any and all of you planning any kind of event for April 2023, please be aware when planning April 2023 weddings/events that one of the biggest events in KC history the 2023 NFL draft will be in KC April 27-29 with guests pouring in the week leading up to the event.

There will be NO rental cars available and most downtown hotels are already sold out. There will also be no Executive cars or vans available unless you book now and we are almost sold out as well.
