SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Brendon Matthews

Brendon Matthews, a 6-foot senior, is an All State first-team guard representing the Barrow Whalers. Besides his academic success and involvement in his student body’s activities, Brendon was the captain and MVP of his high school basketball team. He helped lead the Whalers to a coveted 3A state championship as a sophomore and participated in the state championships every year at Barrow. The Whalers had qualified for a fourth year in a row but saw their season end prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Brendon participated on the highly successful Alaska D1 Nation summer program and is looking at his options to continue his basketball career.

The State Basketball Championships came to an end on Saturday night and the Brackets saw repeat champions in both the girls games and new champions crowned for the Boys.
