A love letter to bougainvillea 🧡💛❤️
Armfuls of locally-sourced bougainvillea in delicious shades of coral, orange, lilac, fuchsia and lemon, arranged into beautiful terracotta amphora created a Marrakech garden wedding that celebrates natural beauty.
By using what was readily available to us rather than importing flowers from afar, we significantly reduced our carbon footprint and brought the romance of the local landscape to our arrangements.

Mary Makes the Sun Shine Bright

Mary called for the clouds with sweet song and steps formed before them. Michael’s mouth fell open like a codfish as they climbed high into the sky until they were welcomed by a sparkling table illuminated by the bright beaming sun.

Uncle Albert remarked that the weather always seemed to be on Mary’s side as he took his seat at the table and gawped in awe at the resplendent display. The Banks family staff had been polishing the silver for weeks and the garden had been emptied of red roses, Mary’s favourite.

The table was one of a kind, every detail considered and meticulously chosen by Mary from things she had gathered over hundreds of years. It was quite a moment when she began producing these treasures from a carpet bag, each piece accompanied by a story, preserved in her memory, and saved with love for this day. Chairs from her childhood garden, glasses from Paris, lace from Athens and plates she was rather confident came from Versailles.

The newly joined family and Albert the Dog took their seats and after a few moments of polite conversation the air was alive with the bustle of penguins delivering plate after plate of delectable food. Glasses were filled, emptied, and filled again, the atmosphere merry and joyous.

The Daffodils are Smiling at the Dove

Mary and Bert spent a languorous summers afternoon in their garden dreaming of their ceremony and all that it would be. Mary described her wishes in careful detail, as Bert’s hands were excitedly sculpting them into reality for her.

The ceremony was to take place in a walled English garden beneath the willow tree.  A delicate pergola was to be placed at the top of the steps with their closest sat comfortably looking up at them as Mary always prefers to be higher than everyone else.

The Banks family gathered at noon around the model, held hands and jumped inside. The scent of 3,000 smiling narcissi filled the air and the doves cooed from their cot in sweet celebration.

Bert was already there waiting, his feet shuffling with nerves but his eyes filled with wonder as Mary floated up the steps. His heart was beating like a big brass band as she said ‘I Do.’

Tears of joy fell down the cheeks of Winifred Banks, consoled by George who was himself surprised with emotion. Jane, Michael and Uncle Albert clapped and cheered, and Andrew the Dog barked at the hullabaloo. The locals threw fistfuls of cherry blossom petals over the couple as they walked around the gardens before they ascended into the clouds for their wedding breakfast.

The Greatest Wedding that Never Happened.

It is hard to know where to start with this. Last night with the help of my extraordinary team and exceptional suppliers we showcased the very best of British to honour Mary Poppins and Bert.

Over the next few days I will take you on all on this magical journey and share with you all the details that helped make this event truly one of a kind.

I have been overwhelmed with the kindness that has flooded my way in the last 24 hours and I am simply delighted that you are all enjoying it as much as I have enjoyed creating it for you.

A lot of people asked me how I came up with this idea in the first place. The truth is I wanted to create an event to remind everyone that what our industry does is joyful, celebratory and above all loads and loads of fun. I wanted to do it in a way which was kind to our planet and show that we can create abundance and opulence without the use of floral foam.

My heartfelt thanks goes out to the list of suppliers below who came on this mad journey with me and trusted in the vision.

Sunday playtime 💛

I’ve spent some time this weekend reorganising my home and having a good Spring clean!

As a child, every Spring my brother and I would always spend exciting days reorganising our bedrooms, moving furniture, and reimagining our space. There was no better feeling than getting into bed in a different location that we woke up, feeling a huge sense of achievement and excited to wake up in the morning to start a new chapter.

Here are a few images from last Spring when I spent the day dreaming, playing, creating with my favourite flowers, narcissi.

Happy Sunday!
Love,
Jessica x

Always our valentine, dreamy decadently-filled urns 🏹🌹

Something of a signature at The Lucas Studio, our urn arrangements are some of our favourite things, ever.

For Valentines we had to choose one that was wild, dramatic and maybe even a little dark and dangerous, with soft creams, deep crimsons, sweet lilacs, and rich, foraged greens.

Happy Valentine’s Day from us to you.

Celebrating Year of the Dragon at Yauatcha 💖🐉 💙

Our take on Chinese New Year for , was a Hong Kong tea house-style combination of many wonderful things. You’ll find contemporary colourful neon lights, bespoke cut acrylic lanterns in blue and pink - the playful house colours - and huge seven-foot dragons looking down from the balcony at Broadgate Circle.

At the Soho restaurant, we placed vinyl over the inside of the windows and decorated with more neon lights. Also, happening in the Soho area, our giant dragons will be weaving their way to a pop-up display at Greek Street. Don’t miss it!

The celebrations continue until 25th February.

Celebrating Year of the Dragon at Hakkasan ✨🐉❣️✨

For Chinese New Year we’re proud to present an exciting new scheme for . A reimagination of our extraordinary 2023 steel installation with .

2024 is the year of the wood dragon, which combines the dragon’s power with the wood’s creativity, and is thought to be a year of innovation, vision and growth. The wood dragon is the most creative and visionary of all the dragons, and we feel our installation really captures this mood.

Using laser cut steel in majestic gold and fiery red to represent the dragon in all its glory, we added red powder coated dragons alongside the stunning wishing tree at Hanway Place. Lit from within, this symbol of good fortune is decorated with intricate Chinese folk art and dragon motifs, while beautiful lightboxes stand outside, welcoming guests in.

The staircase at the Mayfair restaurant has been adorned with hand plasma cut dragon lanterns, which dance between the handcrafted twisted steel wishing trees breathing their new year magic.

Make a wish at until 25th February.

The Picture Gallery 🌸

The wedding breakfast was held in the picture gallery . We dressed the organ in a dramatic way to create a backdrop to the top table, and styled a light and delicate tablescape that acted as a blank canvas for the bride’s love of pink.

We used a blend of bud vases and gold julep cups filled with a playful mixture of white and pink flowers, from sumptuous roses and dahlias to dainty sweet peas . The pink was offset with golden accents, like vintage-inspired leaf candlesticks holding elegant blush pink and white tapered dinner candles.

Simple, stunning, and of course, pink.

Setting the scene 🌿✨

Charlotte and Tom held their wedding reception at in the heart of Hampshire. A very special venue with so many incredible settings and backdrops. We played to its drama by dressing each space with wild and wonderful installation, with plenty of pink, from the palest blush roses to pops of cerise sweetpea and speckled, colour-splashed Regale lilies.

And the church wore pink 💘

During this first month of the year, we’re busy planning lots of magic for the 2024 wedding season. And to help lift us out of the January cosy and into the nuptials mindset, we’re looking back at some of our favourite TLS bridal moments.

First up, this beautiful Hampshire wedding, where Charlotte’s brief to us was, ‘pink, pink and more pink’. So, we set about bringing the bride’s rose-tinted dream to life.

We painted the urns for the church in the sweetest candy colour and filled them with joyful summer flowers that went big on pink and were softened with cream, as well as fresh green foliage cut from the local area.

We also fashioned complementary flower arches around the chocolate box church gate and door, ensuring a rosy entrance - and exit as a married couple.

A magical day for a very girly bride, we’ll be sharing more from the wedding this week.

Rocky’s Christmas wishes 🐶 📝 ❣️✨

Twas the week before Christmas, when all through the TLS house,
Not a Rocket dog was stirring, not even a mouse.
Stockings were hung on the gorgeous mantle with care,
In hopes that St Nicolas - or Jessica - soon would be there…

It’s been a busy week for The Lucas Studio’s Chief Morale Officer, our lovely Rocky. He’s been writing his letter of wishes to Father Christmas and has laid out a mince pie and a tot of brandy for him, and a juicy carrot for Rudolph.

Dear Father Christmas,
I have been the goodest boy this year, so please may I have a very big bowl of ice cream for Christmas because it is my favourite.
Ruv,
Rocky

We have a good feeling that Rocky is going to get his Christmas wish… 🍨

Getting ready for you know who…🌲💛 🍐❤️🌲

This week, Rocky has been busy writing his Christmas list, and his human fwends have decadently dressed the tree and mantlepiece in alpine greens, festive reds and golden yellows in anticipation of the arrival of you know who….

Everything in the scheme has been reused, upcycled or is a vintage treasure, and we’re a little bit in love with it.

Our beautiful Parisian haberdashery pears hang alongside decoupage baubles made by our own fair hands using vintage cards, some older, tarnished gold baubles that we couldn’t resist reusing, as well as vintage decoupage baubles bought on Ebay, and lustrous vintage silk spun baubles.

We’re ready for you Father Christmas!

A wash of champagne warmth over everything 🥂✨

That was the brief our bride gave us when dreaming up her reception décor. So, we draped luscious foliage from the huge chandeliers sparkling away up in the marquee ceiling, and filled a grand pair of medici urns at the entrance with a dramatic display of wintry cream, crimson, lilac, and deep, dark, rich greens.

At the centre of each table were eight ivory candles sitting in baroque-style golden candle holders and lily pad candelabras, which were nestled amongst the flowers. A beautiful blend of blackberry viburnum, burgundy hellebores, dusky lilac and cream roses.

We accented the scheme with champagne-hued details, from gold rimmed glasses and charger plates to gold cutlery and soft stone table linens, everything caught the light and glowed.

To have and to hold 💞

One of the more personal moments for a florist is creating the bridal bouquet, and this particular bouquet was extra special for me, because I was designing it for my best friend.

We choose a classic, quite neat arrangement which perfectly complemented Emma’s gorgeous floaty, flowing custom with long twinkling veil from . Using soft and sumptuous O’Hara and quicksand roses, all of the colours blended beautifully with the bridal party. The stems were bound in a raw silk ribbon, which also held her late grandmother’s locket, which was so sentimental and lovely, carrying her so closely on her big day.

My bouquet followed a similar style with pops of burgundy and crimson hellebores and roses to complement my dress. Just stunning, and so very joyful. A dream day.

My best friend’s wedding 💒

Last Winter, on a very cold winter’s day, warmed by those beautiful rays of sunshine only winter can bring, I had the joy of creating the flowers, and being Maid of Honour for my best friend, Emma’s wedding.

The ceremony was held in the couple’s local village church in Upper Clatford, and the flowers centred around incredible urn arrangements that were breathtakingly dramatic. Using seasonal English foliage foraged from the local area, amongst the wild greenery were wintry toned roses in an exquisite colour palette of porcelain whites and delicate touches of pale, soft lilacs.

A very beautiful ceremony, and the most special day, I’ll be sharing more soon.

Handmade Christmas 🎨 ✨

Of course, a Christmas scheme is not complete without a beautiful tree, and ours pays homage to our papier mâché creations, made by our very special TLS elf, Julie.

Everything in our Ceratops installation, from Ceratops herself, to the baubles and the decorations were all repurposed, upcycled by hand or vintage. It’s colourful, fun and a little bit bonkers… just like us.
If you’re feeling it too, our papier mâché TLS baubles are for sale! Handmade from repurposed baubles, of which florists use and discard thousands of each Christmas, they’re available in three designs - squiggly, hearts and googly eyes. Each set of six comes with two large baubles, two medium baubles and two small baubles in an array of bold and bright colours.

Many thanks to the wonderful Julie whose mad imagination produced all of these amazing things.

A closer look at our coral Christmas tree for . Dive in.

Dreamt up and handmade by The Lucas Studio team, we fashioned together beautiful pieces of snow-white coral, adorned with shimmering shells, oyster pearls, aquatic creatures, and magical molluscs, all sprinkled with glittering accents of pearlescent pink and iridescent lustre.

Oh, to be a glittery crustacean swimming around the Christmas tree..

A Christmas Coral 🪸 ✨

A project we have been very excited to work on, The Lucas Studio had to leave dry land to create a coral-themed Christmas installation inspired by the ‘treasures of the sea’. And, you’ll have to dive into the heart of Soho to find it…

is the X on the map where you’ll find this buried treasure, and it is filled to the brim with opulent ‘under the sea’ decorations and a spectacular coral tree made by our own fair hands.

The jewel in the crown🎄

The main event of any Christmas decorating scheme is, of course… the tree. We sourced ours for from the best tree supplier in all of the land, .

The stunning 10ft Norman Pine tree was dressed in the most decadent jewel tones. Glittered orange ruscus on branches gave a twinkling, tinselled effect, and it was adorned with amber crystal droplets with cognac velvet bows which glistened alongside little orange fox decorations. With every look, there was something for the grown-ups and the children ✨🦊

The festive spirit doesn’t stop there, there’s much more Lucas Studio magic to come. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…
