Hello All! After a long winter in the greenhouse, summer is almost here. Normally, this would be the time when I get my plants ready for the summer market season. But, this year, I'm gearing up for one FINAL MARKET. Yep, I'm getting ready to end my journey with Thrive, and this coming market will be my finale!

I'm really excited about this market, not only because it's my last but also because it will be at one of my favorite places, ! The market is a combo Gear Swap + Artisan Market and it should be a blast. So save that date for Saturday, June 4 and look for more info to come soon.

Succulent pumpkins! Yes, that's a real pumpkin and a real succulent! I saw this idea recently and thought I'd try it out. The succulent is living in a little bit of soil in the pumpkin, and can be taken out once the pumpkin starts to decay. Hoping to make several of these for my Oct. 16 market with .and.makers !

See the pink tips on these air plants? They're blushing! Blushing happens when air plants have been well cared for and have reached the point where they're able to flower and grow pups. We'll see if any of my air plants flower!

Since I don't have any upcoming markets, this is a great time for special orders! These three are ones I finished recently, and they're great examples of the kinds of special orders I can do. The wire air plant holder is something that one of my customers saw at my last market and wanted me to recreate, the stone lady was a container that I was asked to do an arrangement in, and the clay creations were a original request, colors and all. If you'd like me to fill a container, recreate something for you, or make your own idea happen, just let me know! I've done all variety of things in the past, and I love trying new things as well.

Hi everyone! Unfortunately, I will not be able to participate in the Aug 28 market at Compassionate Heart. I'm sad about it, but also glad that this will mean more space in my life to spend with my family and enjoy summer. Definitely still check out their market, and stay tuned for the next market I'll be at. In the meantime, you can find my creations at Eye Candy for Your Body Home. They're having a pop-up sale today if you're able to make it!

Today I set up my new pop-up canopy as part of my prep for my Saturday market with .and.makers. Set up went well and I'm happy with the canopy and even more about the fact that I'll be able to do more outdoor markets now, like this one in Grand Haven and my following market at the Ottawa county fair grounds.

Ok everyone, I have a very exciting announcement to make... Thrive is going to be a vendor with Eye Candy for Your Body & Home! This means that I'll have my own semi-permanent booth there that will be like a mini-store. You can come and shop Thrive creations 6 days a week! Thank you .and.makers and everyone that came for the great market yesterday! It was a little windy, but the sun was out and the market was busy. I'm excited for my next market, also with Merchants and Makers, in Grand Haven. Its July 10, so save the date!

The Story of Thrive

I named this business “Thrive” because that is my goal, to help people and plants thrive. To me, the word thrive represents quality of life, living beyond just trying to survive. When you are thriving you are able to appreciate life and the blessings you have, pursue your dreams, and use your gifts to help others. I believe that art using plants helps people thrive by adding beauty and creativity to their lives. I also think that it is a great way to share the amazingness of creation with everyone, no matter how much experience with plants they do or do not have. This brings me to the second meaning of Thrive’s name: the plants. I want the art that you buy to continue to thrive in your care. I don’t want it to look great for a week or two, and then slowly go downhill, or, worst of all, die. Part of this is for myself because I want to know that the plants that used to be mine are in good hands. Mostly though, I want you to be able to enjoy your art! I recognize that many people don’t have experience caring for plants, or think that they have a “black thumb.” Personally, I think that the whole black thumb-green thumb thing is a myth. Yes, helping a plant thrive is easier for some people, and harder for others, but nobody is doomed from birth to be a plant killer. If you have the right information and are intentional about caring for your plant, you can keep it alive. This is why I make sure that the art I sell comes with organized and understandable information on how to take care of it. It is also why I set you up for success right from the beginning by creating art with the right kind of soil, pot, and spacing of plants, so you don’t have to worry about those things. This business helps one more thing thrive: me! I love plants and art, and Thrive lets me spend more time doing what I love, and share it with others. Being a high school student (if you didn’t know that already, surprise!) I don’t have a ton of extra time. With Thrive, I can make money doing something that I genuinely want to do, instead of spending that time doing something like working at Pizza Hut, which would be incredibly boring. It also gives me more flexibility, so I can spend more time with my family and doing the other things that I like to do, such as reading, rock climbing, and playing the saxophone. So, although I would likely make more money working at Pizza Hut, I’m glad that I chose to do this instead.
