There is no I in TEAM ❤️ 🇧🇪

There is no 🤝 I in Team! 🇧🇪

Here we are again! 🤯 2 years and 9 hours later, we find the Belgian Satellite of The Team World Championship Backyard Ultra without a winner... 😲

Admittedly, we're glad it's over because we really want to get some sleep! 😴 But another part of us wouldn't mind being here for another day to find out how far they really could go, and who would be the last one standing. 🤔

However, unlike every other Backyard Ultra, the Team World Championship is foremost built on working together. 🤝 Striving as a team to go as far as possible, means helping each other out as much as possible, to get everyone to reach their maximum potential. 💪 And that is exactly what every single member of Team Belgium did! 🙌

This resulted in a feat that will be very hard to replicate: each member of Team Belgium ran his PB today... Every single one of them!!! 🎉🥳

Our runners began this World Championship as a team and they were committed to end it as a team. 🤝 So here we are with 3 World Record holders with an astonishing 110 yards - and the knowledge that more is still very possible. 🤯

So, we bow our head to three amazing runners, who wrote history over the last 5 days. 🙏👏

2020: 1 Belgian World Record Holder 🥇
2022: 2 Belgian World Record Holders 🥇🥇
2024: 3 Belgian World Record Holders 🥇🥇🥇
2026: ??? 🔮

The doors🚪of the runners’ cabins tell a story of grit, determination, and unwavering support. Each one decorated with messages of inspiration, tick marks for every yard completed, and powerful reminders of how far they’ve come.

These doors became more than just an entryway—they were symbols of the strength and love that carried the runners through each loop.

Every word, every mark, reflects the incredible bond between runners and their crew. This is where the magic of the Backyard truly comes alive.

So much happens around the fire during a race like the Backyard. 🔥

There’s storytelling, full-on belly laughs, and even a few tears. It’s where bonds are created, and strangers become family. 💛

Many, many hours were shared around that fire. The wood pile may have gotten smaller, but the friendships grew stronger with every loop, every story, every moment.

This is the magic of the Backyard.

Another huge milestone for Team 🇨🇦—48 loops, 200 miles! 💥 After a long night, 5 members of our team are still pushing through, and with the arrival of daylight, it feels like a fresh burst of energy has hit the camp. 🌅💪The sun is back, lifting the spirits of our runners, crew, organizers, and volunteers. Everyone is feeling the renewed energy, and it’s incredible to witness the determination out there. Team Canada 🇨🇦 hits 100 miles. 15 runners in. 15 runners out. Daylight has brought a new energy to camp and to the runners. It’s a good day to run.

When Preston Schaffer completed Loop 35, he was met with Steffan Reimer waiting to congratulate him. The look on Preston's face was priceless — he had no idea he had just won the race. Please join us in congratulating this year’s GrassRoots Backyard Ultra last person standing, Preston Schaffer—234.71 kilometers and a well-deserved spot on the 🇨🇦 national team.

Steffan Reimer truly left it all out on the course, battling through a knee issue for the last 10 hours. His resilience is the definition of a warrior. It was an emotional moment for Steffan and his crew, with not a dry eye in the place. Now, we wait for Preston Schaffer to finish Loop 35 within the required hour to be the last person standing.

The heat has come back and we’re doing our best to keep the runners cool & in good spirits. Freezies seem to do the trick every time. When they complete this loop it will mark 200 kilometres!

We've crossed the 24-hour, 100-mile milestone! A new course record was set with 28 racers completing 100 kilometers, and this morning, 7 runners crossed the line at the 100-mile mark. Currently, 6 are still out on the course. This is how we Backyard… Old Tom Backyard [Blumenort, MB] — 25 minutes SE of Winnipeg] co-Race Director, Danny Reimer is doing it up right here in Okotoks, Alberta. Wearing the crew 🧢 for Steffan Reimer this weekend. Such a compliment when another RD comes to run your race.

Who’s excited 😆? Less than two weeks to the first bell and all the things are happening…. Runners are coming from:🇺🇸: California & Tennessee 🇨🇦: Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia 🇬🇧 Can’t wait to see each and every one of you. No doubt runners will come away with memories to last a lifetime and new friendships.
