Today was spent digitizing our old books. Over this last faire season we spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to keep track of the amount of orders we had as our old system couldn't handle it all on its own. Now we will be using the same order books we've used for the last 30 years but at the same time having them fully backed up on a digital spreadsheet, hopefully this will make it easier for us to keep things from slipping in the cracks!
Hello! We have gotten a few messages about some of the last outstanding orders from the 2021 New York Renaissance Faire season. We wanted to touch base a little bit on why things are taking a little while, and be fully transparent with all of you.
First off, we had more orders in a single season than ever before which is fantastic but also is a lot of work on the backend to make each piece custom to each customer with the attention to detail each deserves
Second, neither of our seamstresses are currently lucky enough to do this full time which means we are juggling orders with full time jobs taking up much of our time.
Finally, we had a small car accident at the end of last month that threw things out of wack and totaled the truck we use for the business. No one was hurt but there’s a lot of paperwork that takes up time.
We are making this post not to excuse how long it is taking to get orders done but more to inform our customers who have been waiting patiently for their pieces to arrive and been extremely kind when they send messages asking for updates. Thank you all for being so patient with us and we hope things run smoother next season and you will get your orders soon! Thank you!

We have been so happy to help in all of your grab needs, from new customers just finding us and long time fans of the shop! We will miss helping you all get dressed and fitted for your day at the shire and can’t wait to do it again next season!

Now due to the afore mentioned record season, our line of orders is quite long and will take a bit to get through. We are hoping to get everything done and out to you as soon as possible but please reach out if you’re worried about the time frame and we will do our best to accommodate.
Here at Thorny Rose we like to immerse ourselves in lots of different art forms to inspire us. But we also love seeing how our art form inspires other individuals art and creativity.
When listening to we thought we noticed a certain familiar piece and did a bit of sleuthing. We went to ‘s page and saw that her character, Ellerie Seaborn, was in fact wearing a bodice she’d gotten a few months before at the from us! And even one step cooler, this costume was rendered two dimensional by the incredible ! Seeing this level of creativity utilizing a piece of our work is incredibly humbling, and it brings a smile to all of us here at TR!
Realms Apart is a phenomenal Dungeons and Dragons podcast created by a group of creators scattered across the globe (hence the fantastic name) that is edited by the incredibly talented ! We highly recommend this immersive podcast to give you your dose of fantasy to get you through until your local ren faire! We tend to listen to it as we sew our wares and get prepared for our next shows!

Have you loved our skirts but wondered “won’t this get heavy after a long day of adventuring or partying?” Well we’ve recently added a Lightweight option! It’s still the super full skirt that you’ve come to love over the years but it’s so much lighter and breezier! Still boasting the 100% cotton that makes it not only comfortable but long lasting. These skirts can also layer nicely with themselves or our classic heavyweight skirts! We will be adding more colors in the options soon and will have them at from August 21-October 3, 2021! We can’t wait to see you all there!
We’ve added something new this winter: Plaid Lined Cloaks! Wool (or wool blend) outer lining and 100% cotton flannel lining! These will not be able to be customized as we don’t know when we will have the materials available to us. Please message us for availability if you’re interested!
While we absolutely miss seeing everyone at NYRF and our other shows, this down time has allowed for a bit of catching up on the "things to do" list.
One of those things is looking around to see if there is something we have to put into stock. We ordered these needle cases, thinking to check out the quality. Wow! We were pleasantly surprised when they showed up!
They are so fabulous we added them immediately to inventory. These very sturdy wooden needle cases close with a finely threaded metal fastener. Included are 20 hand sewing needles. $10

We are hoping to add more products and more designs over time but we started with some of our classic lines you hear around our shop at your favorite shows! Take a piece of Thorny Rose home with you! My look for the ! I wear quite a few artisans in my daily life and I add a whole bunch more when I wear my garb! I’ve been doing faires and SCA events my entire life and these works of art feel so natural for me to wear. My anachronistic life is something I am highly grateful for and love. I have found many of my loved ones through this somewhat nomadic life style I live and I’ll be grateful for each and every friend I’ve met along the way! I hope to be reunited with everyone soon!

G’day Lords and Ladies and Everyone in Between! As we’ve recently received news of our first major cancellation (something many of our friends have been dealing with for months) we are beyond saddened to not be able to see our fellow vendors and customers at Pennsic War 49. That being said we’ve been conjuring up a plan to be able to share with our friends and make sure our favorite clothing and accessories don’t collect dust this year! So we offer this, the ! Here’s the “rules”:
1. Dress up in your favorite garb (or do multiple looks!)
2. Have a fun photo shoot or just selfie in it to photograph your look
3. Post to social media
4. Tag every artist you’re wearing (or holding) to let everyone know you’re favorite artisans
5. And don’t forget to use the hashtags and !
Look at the above post for an example! modeling his latest look! Using the hashtags let’s everyone see your look much as they would at faires and events and get inspiration from each other. Tagging all the artisans and vendors helps direct business and give the artisans some help in this much needed time. We, like many others, cannot wait to return to interacting with each other and as a clothing shop we miss seeing what everyone is wearing! We’d love to get everyone involved in this fun challenge!
Hello Lords and Ladies and those in between! It’s been a bit since we’ve had our last show and still a while before our next. It’s a scary time right now and remember it’s perfectly ok to wear whatever makes you comfortable, for that’s his garb! Seen here wearing our Men’s Shirt, Doublet, and Mongol Pants! We love seeing people happy with our work! came into our shop a couple weekends ago to get fitted for her very own bodice! We are so happy to see her enjoying it! Only one more weekend to stop by this season and get your very own custon, tailored bodice or doublet!

What I Loved: Trying this on in person allowed for me to find the right size! Vendor made alterations on location of the event and shipped to my home for no extra cost. The design makes me feel like I’m in a Sleeping Beauty fairy tale. Considering working this into my weekly wardrobe.

Size: Tamila (no sizes just people! 🥰🙏) This garment has a life time warranty for repairs. The only discomfort I felt is from my stomach ulcer that has yet to recover fully.
Finding gear that is comfortable, multipurpose & durable has been my goals for upgrading kit. I’ve had a lot of fun making my own costuming with that in mind. This piece really sparked joy & it was a joy hearing stories while trying it on. Taking care of the body is priority for me at larps, I believe this piece is going to make an excellent addition.

We were very sad to see the end of the 2018 season at New York Renaissance Faire. For those of you that visited us, it was lovely to share that time with you. For those of you that didn't make it by? There is always next year and the wonders the 2019 season promises to bring us!

As we work feverishly to make stock for the upcoming summer season, time continues to pull us inexorably closer to opening day of the NYRF! So much to do, so little time left to do it!
