The Monster Skillet at Hillside Restaurant is something that I didn’t know I needed in my life. I found out this morning at breakfast. Country potatoes, kielbasa, andouille, and smoked sausage. Cheddar cheese, biscuits & gravy with real bacon bits. I had a side of their homemade salsa too…Bro! Odds are you need this in your life too. You’re welcome.

I tried South African food at the Lake Zurich Farmers Market from IndabaUSA. The Boerie Rolls with South African farmers sausage (boerewors) in a hoagie roll come smothered with either Chakalaka or tamatie smoor (tomato and onion). I tried both and they were delicious. I think I like the Chakalaka the most. I'll be back to have these again.

Roots and Rhythm debuts this morning on The Country Blend. 10 am Central/ 11 am Eastern. This features artists of color in country, Americana, folk, and bluegrass. Check it out. Cute thumbnails are my thing.

We ate at Benihana today to celebrate my son’s graduation. There’s just something about hibachi that makes the occasion more special.

The Pork Bao Buns were a big hit on Christmas Eve.

We did a cooking class today at The Joyful Gourmet. Bibimbap was on the menu. I can’t wait to attend another one.

Things have changed but when one door closes, another one opens. The question I keep getting asked is, “So what are you going to do know?” My answer, “Whatever the **** I want.”

Thanks to Moon Kissed for taking the time to talk to me after their very first festival performance. Their set at Riot Fest was phenomenal.

Kid Sistr took the stage at Riot Fest and had a great set. I had the privilege of speaking with them briefly about their influences and the direction they want to take the band.

It was great talking to the guys from Treaty of Paris about their performance at Riot Fest. We also talked about what the band’s future plans.

We talked about their longevity, evolution as a band, and some of the artists that are inspiring them these days. Max Davies from Kitchen Dwellers took some time out of his day to talk to me after their set at SACRED ROSE. A local guy guy who went to Crystal Lake Central, moved to Montana and now makes some great music with a really cool band. Small world…he taught a friend of mine guitar during the pandemic.

Jeff- Weeknights on 1023XLC

I grew up with a radio always within an earshot. As a kid I spent countless hours with a tape recorder trying to imitate all of the jocks that I heard on-air.

I attended Columbia College Chicago and earned a bachelor’s degree in sound engineering. Upon graduating from Columbia, my first job was as a freelance engineer with NPR. I worked in radio briefly before pursuing other work and starting a family.

My passion for radio brought me back to broadcasting and I’ve been at part of 1023XLC since August 2015.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Hillary and our four children. I love all types of music, documentaries, professional wrestling, trying new cuisine and visiting farmers markets. I’m a huge fan of the University of Michigan football program.
