Before I became immersed in wedding and people photography, my heart belonged to capturing the beauty of scenery and architecture. I loved to freeze a moment in time, hoping to relive the awe I felt when I first laid eyes on these places. And every time I look back at those photos, I feel it again.
I remember my first big international trip in 2014 to Hong Kong, a trip that marked many âfirstsâ for me. It was the first time Iâd seen my family from the Philippines in seven years. It was also my first adventure with a DSLR in handâthough, at the time, I barely knew how to use it! But my enthusiasm knew no bounds. I wanted to capture everything around me: family, stunning landscapes, the intricate details of the cityâs architecture. Iâd lag behind the group, just to take that one last shot.
One comment Iâll never forget came from my aunt, who asked, âWhy are you taking photos of things without people in them? No one cares.â I know she meant no harm, but I remember feeling hurtâand defensive. Because I cared. I CARE. Itâs my art, my memory, my story. And I wanted to preserve it all.
While most people may overlook these details, to me, theyâre essential. These wide shots, the landscapes, the architectureâthey set the scene for every story. Thatâs why Iâm intentional in wedding photography, capturing both the grand and intimate details of a location. Itâs a part of the story, part of the history, and part of the memory. Itâs why couples choose these placesâbecause they mean something. And I want that meaning to live on in their story, in their memory, through my lens.
