Hey guys! I have been a little quiet for awhile on here mainly due to the holidays, moving, and now getting engaged! Peyton and I are really excited for the new adventure and I’ll be here to post about some of the things we learn along the way about planning our wedding! Stay tuned!

Mason and Madison’s wedding took place at the History Southern Railway Station in Knoxville, Tennessee. The venue is very versatile. You can have it inside or outside depending on the time of year with so many opportunities for decorations. The venue also hosts a winery and bistro which made the rehearsal dinner so convenient! Venues like this are also great for pictures. As you can see we had plenty of back drops whether it be inside the rustic building or outside with the vintage trains!

Kayla and KC’s reception was at the same venue as the ceremony. Tables were totally separate from the dance floor, so there was plenty of room for everyone to enjoy the night. Timing was also great since the lighting was perfect for pictures before the dance floor opened up, but cool enough for the dancing as well.

So far, this wedding is the only one I’ve been to that had an open mic for toasts. The bride didn’t give me a choice, but I loved having the opportunity to give my blessing and love to the couple on their big day. Not many people have an open mic for toasts, but it is fun when the guests can hear so many different fun stories about the couple.

Kayla and KC’s wedding took place on a beautiful August day back in 2019. The venue they picked worked great for the outdoor scene. The arbor had a beautiful backdrop for the ceremony with the fountain. But the one thing I’ve never seen was the doors. Usually with an outdoor wedding, you can see the bride coming from far away. But with this, there’s buildup for the bride’s arrival for everyone, especially the groom. It was so dramatic when the doors opened to reveal Kayla to KC. Everyone absolutely loved it!

Another great idea from the Bride was the programs. Instead of handing out programs for people to stuff in their pockets, they were made into fans for the guests to keep themselves cool in the North Carolina heat. Just shows you how some of the simplest ideas can make the biggest impact!

August 2019- the next wedding I’ll be covering is one of my best friends from growing up! Fun fact she wanted me to be a bridesmaid but I wasn’t sure I could make it for the big day. So thankful I could because it was spectacular and so memorable!

Not a wedding, but a small party I put together this past Friday night. Bring Your Own Board Night! Very simple theme for a party. Everyone make their own Charcuterie board, however simple or complicated they like. You can have a meat and cheese board, a pizza board, a pie board, or an Oreo board. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination! Throw in any themes you want to give a twist.

Assigned seats or open seating? Personally, I’ve always been a fan of assigned seats. There’s plenty of cute ways to make the chart, and this wedding had a great one! To me, the cocktail hour is more enjoyable when you know you have a seat waiting for you, versus trying to get a seat for you and the group you’re with. You can relax, socialize, and then just find your seat once the reception is about to begin. But the couple really have to know their guests to place them at tables where it would make sense. But it’s all up to you! As long as people are having a great time like at this wedding, they probably won’t even remember what table they sat at!

I had never attended a cold wedding before March 2019. So attending a winter mountain wedding was a big change of pace! The low temps worked in advantage of the couple as guests arrived with snow falling! A natural mood setter. It’s hard to beat the view of a snow capped mountain!

The couple had a relatively small guest list that was adequate for the size of the venue. With the weather and time of year, all the events had to be inside which affects the size of the event. Always something to think about. That also affects your pictures since no one wants to stay outside in the cold for too long. But these shouldn’t scare you from doing a winter or a mountain wedding. This wedding was a great example of how to make it amazing!

January 2019- A very silly picture for a very small wedding. This was the smallest wedding I’ve ever been apart of. I love this wedding because it always reminds me the bare bone of what a wedding is: two people professing their love for each other and their commitment to each other. You don’t NEED a flashy party for your wedding. Always remember your wedding is YOUR wedding! Do whatever it is you want with whoever in attendance. Everyone loves a good pizza party, so who says you can’t do it at a wedding! And remember to always have fun. It’s a celebration!

I sadly couldn’t stick around for all of the reception, but I was filled in on all the fun everyone had. This was my first wedding with a live band, and they were very memorable! Most people stick with DJs since they can play almost any song anyone requests. But on the other hand, live bands are very unique. They can be as big or small as you’d like. Sure you might not get many line dances, but there’s something about live instruments that make a party special. It’s just one of many ways you can make your celebration your own!

Yesterday I used the word “intimate” to describe the chapel where this wedding occurred. It’s a very small location. Everyone in attendance could see every detail of the ceremony. It was a very small ceremony of the couple’s closest family and friends. And there is nothing wrong with a small wedding! Small weddings are much more personable for the bride and groom since they can spend more time with their guests.

Pictures made a significant impact in the timeline for the day. Groomsmen and Bridesmaid pictures were taken at completely different locations before the ceremony and the entire party together was at a different location as well. When your ceremony and reception are separate, you have more freedom for picture locations. It was definitely a memorable part of the day getting all the guys across town to get the pictures done.

June 2018 — My third wedding took place in the intimate Wedding Chapel of Grace in lovely Olympia, Washington. This was also my second time being a groomsman to a very close college friend of mine I’ll be talking about the lead up and ceremony as well as some aspects to their reception later this week!

The reception took place at the iconic, for Hokies at least, German Club. This was the first reception I saw a few cool new additions that are more of a normalcy now. First was an alternative to a guest book. The couple opted to use a Polaroid camera for couples and groups to take of themselves and write notes on! They also had a full bar where they featured couples drinks, one drink for the bride and one for the groom. A clever way to help bartenders make the same drink while giving a memorable twist to the experience for the guests! This was a great break from being a best man, but still a very memorable experience!

Technically not the first church I attended a wedding in, it’s been one of the only church weddings I’ve attended since. My parents were married in a church as well as many other family members of mine. More recently than then, religious people are opting to have ceremonies at the same location as the reception for ease of logistics, transitions, and time. But that doesn’t mean choosing two separate places for the ceremony and reception is hard to figure out. Regardless of your choice, churches are a traditional religious location with plenty of chances for beautiful pictures.

This week’s wedding took place in June 2018. I went back to Blacksburg, VA for another college wedding located where I went to college! Just attending as a guest this time, I had an amazing time seeing friends one last time before going into the real world. I’ll be talking about the reception in Blacksburg Baptist Church and the reception at the German Club Manor! I’ll be breaking down the ceremony and reception in posts later this week.
