Join us tomorrow at the Norwich City Hall as we celebrate Juneteenth!

The Juneteenth flag, first created in 1997, symbolizes the end of slavery in the United States. Its bursting star in the center represents freedom for African Americans in all 50 states. The arc across the flag marks a new horizon—new opportunities and a future full of promise.

Juneteenth—celebrated every June 19—commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a day to reflect, honor, and continue the work toward justice and equality.

Come witness this powerful symbol raised high in our city and stand in solidarity as we celebrate freedom and Black history.

Join us on Saturday, June 21st at 2pm at Norwich City Hall for a special Sikh Flag Raising Ceremony as we celebrate the vibrant Sikh community here in Norwich. This meaningful event is a wonderful opportunity to honor diversity, unity, and cultural heritage — and we hope to see you there!

At 12pm that same day, you're also welcome to explore the Sikh Art Gallery, located at 7 Clinic Drive, for a guided tour showcasing the rich artistic and cultural traditions of the Sikh community.

Both events offer an excellent chance to learn, connect, and celebrate the contributions of this remarkable community in our city!

Enjoy curated teas, meaningful conversation, and community as we honor the legacy of Black joy, tradition, and women in a unique and welcoming setting. This year we are honored to have our keynote speaker Lucy Hurston joining us.
