THE INTERVIEW WITH FUNTOWEAR👇
Q1. Why are you motivated or inspired to do this guest mix for Puzzleprojectsmusic?
A1. FunToWear: We met last year and started blending our two cultures in the different sets we made together. We feel very honoured to have the opportunity to be a guest on the Puzzleprojectsmusic mix series, thanks a lot, Ben Spalding Music!
Q2. What are your favourite genres & sub-genres of music?
A2. We are quite eclectic and inspired by different sorts of music. Mulo is especially interested in Afro House and Afro Beat, while HEYO funk is really into finding old school Disco gems.
Q3. What are your top 5 favourite tracks (old or current) you have ever heard in your life?
A3.
HEYO funk: 1) Lovetime Guarantee by Fronzena Harris, 2) Mother Africa by Ta**ra, 3) Roadhouse Blues by The Doors, 4) Mack The Knife by Ella Fitzgerald, 5) Paul Older - Amor Mio, as a shout out to this great DJ and producer, thanks for the song!
MULO: 1) Ladon by ManyeloDafro, 2) The Awakening of A Woman by Cinematic Orchestra, 3) Nightlite by Bonobo, 4) Corinne by Metronomy, 5) 45:33 by LCD Sound System

A4.
HEYO: Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, The Doors, Manu Chao
MULO: Sigur Ros, Bonobo, Serge Gainsbourg, Tinariwen
Q5. What Software & Hardware did you use to record this mix?
A5.
Pioneer CDJ Nexus 2000NXS - DJM 900NSS2 - Traktor Scratch Pro 2 - Traktor Kontrol X1
Q6. What are the goals or ambitions you are going to smash out of the park this year or next year?
A6. To have fun together! We just started this project, it felt very natural from the start and we want to develop and build it further. In a way, 2020 was not a bad year to start this because we managed to sit down and talk through how we picture Funtowear. We hope this year will open opportunities and that society will open again so we can play gigs again!! Playing gigs is the essence of it all! We are also working on our first productions and edits.
Q7. What is your favourite dish or style of food to cook (if you don’t cook then shame on you ha-ha) - what favourite dish or style of food do you love to eat?
A7. French food, of course, Mulo makes an insane duck confit! But chauvinism aside, as long as it's good, it's gonna end up in our stomach!
Q8. Most messed up thing (be as honest as possible) you have ever witnessed or experienced on a dance floor or at a party?
A8. Panorama Bar in Berlin on a Monday morning… this is just messed up!
Q9. Gym session, pub or club session?
A9. Club session of course! Especially these days, we miss the DJ scene.
Q10. Best spine-tingling dance floor experience at a club, festival or show as a clubber or show attendee?
A10.
HEYO: Distortion festival in Copenhagen, insane vibes there throughout the whole festival. And Zookout in Singapore of course!
MULO: Unannounced Aphex Twin gig at Glastonbury in 2014… boy oh boy!
Q11. Which artist/s (established, up & coming or unheard of) excites you or do you rate for big things?
A11. Kinda tricky question, as we tend to look for old Disco gems, but the new tracks from DJ Spen, Paul Older or Hotmood.
On a different style, everything that comes out of the South African Afro/Deep House scene, so many talents there.
Q12. You are holding a dinner party at your house followed by an afterparty, you can have anyone you like there (dead or alive) from any walk of life - who joins you at this beautiful night?
A12.
HEYO: Being a huge basketball fan, I am picking Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant if there is a basketball court nearby! And call me old fashioned, but I would love to sit with de Gaulle and Churchill and hear what they’d think of today’s world.
MULO: Fela Kuti, Tony Allen, Adama Dramé and John Bonham for a little Afro Beat jam session.
Q13. What does a day in the life of you look like? Could be anything: work, life, schedule, family?
A13. Quite boring these days: wake up, bring the kiddos to school, home office, pick up the kiddos, dinner, but then all light up when we step inside the studio!
Q14. Where were you born? & where are you currently based in the world?
A14.
HEYO funk: Born and raised in Paris, France I also lived for some time in Vietnam.
MULO: On a sofa in a school! In a small village in the French West coast close to Nantes. My dad was a teacher and our house was in school! I lived some years in Grenoble in the Alps before making the move to Norway, 13 years ago.
We both currently live in Oslo, Norway.
Q15. Name 5 (good or bad!) things that have been done or are currently done to excess in your life?
A15. Listening to music with headphones - good to discover music, terrible for your family life, watching Netflix, taking too much snus (Scandinavian chewing to***co), following NBA, being too French :)
Q16. Where did your performing artist name come from? Does it have more meaning or history behind it?
A16. We were looking at some 70’s disco pictures to make some gig posters. We ended up on an old hilarious commercial for a brand called “Underwear That’s Funtawear” and we had quite the laugh... so we kept the “Funtowear”.
Q17. If you had some advice to budding producers or DJ’s in the industry, what would it be?
A17. Go with your flow! Even though you should please the crowd, just play the music you feel like playing. They won’t have fun if you don’t!
Q18. Describe the most incredible crowd connection you have experienced when playing (It could be a house party or a stadium). Which experience/s moved you, where you got that magical energy that all DJ's crave?
A18. One thing that gives us the motivation and the energy to play is this magical moment when people come to you during or after the gig and say: “Thanks for the music, I had so much fun!”. It’s not much, but priceless and that’s what it is all about.
Q19. What do you feel needs to change in the industry for the better?
A19. Don’t follow the trends, or brand yourself too much, like being “organic” ... just play your damn songs!
Q20. Any final words, you total legend?!
A20. We had so much fun doing this guest mix together, finding songs from our different tracklists, we really hope that you’ll enjoy it! And hang on, people, Covid will be over soon and 2021 will be a fun(towear) year!
