I went rock climbing the other week, which left me thinking that rock climbing and business share unexpected similarities.

Here are five lessons from rock climbing that apply to business:

🔎 Focus - Just like climbers need unwavering focus as they navigate their way up to their summit, business success demands that same dedication and adaptive planning.

🧘Stay Calm - In stressful situations, staying composed helps climbers to recharge, re-strategize, and find a way up, which is the same in businesses. As they face challenges, staying calm can create a more effective and successful outcome.

📉 Embrace Failure - Falling is part of climbing (and I did a lot of that, which taught me how important it is for me to keep training and practicing). Similarly, failure in business is an opportunity to reflect and learn something you weren't aware of before.

🧗Consistency Over Quantity - In climbing, slow, deliberate movements prevent fatigue and mistakes. In business, consistent actions build momentum and reliability, ensuring long-term progress and stability over quick, sporadic efforts.

🤝Surround Yourself With The Right People: Having a reliable climbing partner is crucial for safety and success. Similarly, in business, surrounding yourself with supportive and skilled individuals creates a strong team and network to support your goals.

I was immersed in the world of hospitality from a young age, growing up in my family’s restaurant in the UK. Working alongside my parents, I learned the importance of hard work, respect, and excellent service (I am going to add 'delicious food' to that too!). I can even show you the scar on my finger that I proudly wear, from opening a wine bottle when I was young and sliced my finger open... lesson learned! These early experiences shaped my work ethic, (safety standards 😂) and taught me how to interact with people from all walks of life with genuine care, consideration and communication.

Jumping ahead to university, the significance of real-world experience during my industry year was a pivotal time, offering me invaluable exposure to high-level corporate public relations, marketing and events (and the chance to drive a number of amazing cars from the Volkswagen brand). It was during this time that I honed the variation of skills that I now utilize daily in my business.

Real-world experience is priceless. Without all the customer service experience, from being brought up in a restaurant, to the high-level attention-to-detail organization in corporate PR, I gained invaluable lessons and insights that books alone can't provide.

Each step in my journey, from hospitality to the corporate world and traveling the globe, has shaped me into the professional I am today. These experiences taught me resilience, adaptability, and the collective power of hard work, constantly pushing my boundaries and making me a better version of who I can be.

So, go out there and get as much real-world experience as you can! It'll be worth it!

🔑 The key to growth and success lies in making timely decisions with the information at hand and committing to those choices wholeheartedly.

I love the idea of Steven's notion of reaching 51% certainty, to then making your decision, moving forward, and being at peace with your choice.

Every step, no matter how uncertain, is a step towards growth, learning, and achieving your goals. From experience, my way of looking at it is that there are no wrong decisions, just lessons. Sometimes they're success stories with positive reflections, and sometimes they can be horror shows with many take-aways and lessons to never repeat. I call that a win too!

Trust in your ability to make decisions and navigate through any uncertainty. It’s in these moments that your true path appears. 🛣
