James Bond’s champagne of choice unveils a limited edition in honour of the latest 007.
As far as icons go, it doesn’t get more iconic than 007. In celebration of the latest instalment of the legendary James Bond film franchise—No Time to Die—Champagne Bollinger, the official champagne of 007 for four decades, has unveiled a Special Cuvée 007 Limited Edition.
While it’s no secret Bond loves his martinis—shaken, not stirred, of course—the handsome British secret service agent has also long been a lover of fine champagne. As Hollywood history goes, it was over lunch in 1979 that Christian Bizot, former president of Bollinger and a fifth-generation family member, and Cubby Broccoli, the legendary Bond producer declared Bollinger the spy’s champagne of choice. Bollinger had, after all, made its foray into the world of Bond in the 1956 novel Diamonds are Forever (the book by English author Ian Fleming, was later adapted to become the seventh movie in the Bond series).
And so the legacy goes that, on the back of that infamous lunch, Bollinger made its big-screen debut in 1979’s Moonraker (the 11th film in the Bond series), galvanising an enduring partnership that would see Bollinger become the official champagne of James Bond for over 40 years. You might recall the memorable scene when Bond crawls through Holly Goodhead’s hotel window in Venice and spies ice bucket emblazoned with the Bollinger logo. “If it is the '69, you were expecting me,” Bond famously quips.
To mark the launch of No Time To Die—the role of Bond reprised for one last time by British actor Daniel Craig—Champagne Bollinger has again taken its cue from the glamour of old Hollywood, producing a moody cinematic style photoshoot to unveil their limited edition Special Cuvée 007, created in honour of the movie.
Shot by celebrated photographer Greg Williams—the behind-the-scenes photographer of the Oscars and BAFTAs, and frequent contributor to Vogue—the campaign unites three icons. The man himself (Bond, James Bond); Bond’s ride-or-die, the legendary Aston Martin DB5; and the limited edition Bollinger Special Cuvée 007.
