Saturday 15th March // 22:30-04:00

Strange Brew presents the launch of Acid Dub Studies III, the latest instalment in Jim Coles' acclaimed series.

The new album explores the 303 bassline in a dubwise setting, blending traditional dub mixing with roots/digi-dub styles, and making space for electronic and ambient elements to close the project.

After touring the material at festivals and clubs like CTM at Berghain, Les Nuits Sonores and Andrew Weatherall's Convenanza festival, the result combines 5 years of experimentation and a truly ground-breaking approach to the 303.

Joining the back room is queen of the scene known for her infectious genre bending energy behind the decks, plus Bristol legend and Idle Hands bossman

This Saturday’s gig // Strange Brew presents a beautiful triple bill headlined by Belgium’s incredible Milan W. in trio formation, Trystero and London’s spirit blue [seated + standing tix avail] 🕊️

Releasing on Nosedrip’s ever-reliable .tv label, Milan W’s autumnal folky dreampop combines electronic-oriented guitar alongside haunted sax and heartbroken crooning. His latest album “Leave another day” made it onto plenty AOTY lists and we couldn’t agree more!

Trystero is Thomas Lea Clarke (aka MR TC), Low Bat and Nelly Placard. Bona fide cosmic travellers taking cues from sizzling acid, 1990s snap rhythms, post-punk, krautrock and shoegaze. They’ll now be joined by vocalist Alexia who featured on their “Sfumare e Vedere” album.

Completing the bill is London’s excellent spirit blue, made of Impey and Sleepier but performing as a 4-piece, whose hazy dreampop EP ‘desire machine / perfect storm’ has been racking up bog plays at Brew HQ and is reminiscent of Lolina, ML Buch & early bar italia...

TBT 5 years ago, when we got the keys for our building in January 2020!

We were planning to be open by that April, not knowing covid was around the corner. After missing out on a lot of business support during the pandemic but still being required to pay rent, we had no choice but to run a second crowdfunder and attempt a lot of the work ourselves. Taking on an empty shell was a big experience, but thanks to a huge amount of help from trades, specialists, friends and family (not least pictured here) we muddled through. It is weird looking back on those times now...

Fast forward to 2025 and we’re still here. In 2024 we hosted 241 live shows, 6 festivals / all dayers and 98 clubnights 🥵

We are very grateful to every audience member who has come through our doors since 2020 and all the incredible promoters & artists who make Brew what it is! Looking forward to more in 2025

Accidental Meetings present a double bill headed up by Holy Tongue & Shackleton, two all time favourites whose collaborative record made it into plenty of 24’ AOTY lists!

Both have already been etched into Brew history, tearing off the roof in 23’ and 24’ with their unique live sets, however this night sees the UK debut of them playing together, showcasing their ritualistic dub abstractions.

AM’s Elijah Minnelli completes the bill, head honcho of Breadminster City Council with records featuring his trademark and individualistic style of cumbia, folk & dub.

Thurs 6th Feb / 7pm - 10:30pm

Tickets are flying on Headfirst, consider this your warning 🚨

Support comes from visionary producer & multi-instrumentalist Bethany Ley & rapper-poet Rael of south london’s genre bending band Nukuluk.

This is a really unique one bringing together some of Bristol’s newest talents with the Portishead legend, plus acts from further afield who have featured in many end-of-year charts - not to be missed!

Danielle’s second instalment of Soft Raw sees the Bristol house & techno mainstay invite Berlin-based Ogazón to town, bringing her old school approach to DJing to the backroom ⚔️

With steady pacing and patient progression, Ogazón is one of those special selectors you’ll see playing for many hours - a true bastion of the afterhours scene, her hypnotic and restrained technique lures dancefloors in, breezing through wiggy leftfield minimal, pummeling techno and percussive house.

A perfect continuation from the first instalment which had DJ Stingray blow the lid off the backroom. Get locked in for this one!

FFO: Ryan Elliot, BASHKKA, Or:la, Helena Hauff

Mark your calendars people! Batu’s concludes at ours next Saturday after an immaculate 4-day programme of cutting-edge, live and club music across many of Bristol’s cherished venues.

Going till 5am for their grand finale, they’ve curated a line up of legendary, unsung heroes. Inviting Terraforma’s prime resident Paquita Gordon, known for her super deep and twisted vinyl selections across roaring acid, trip-hop, dusty rock mutations and drum & bass.

Plus Manchester legend (now London-resident) who has gone through many musical eras; through mid 90s Manchester raves, helping to break Equiknoxx into Europe, and his deep and diverse NTS Shows.

returns with her new revamped live show, riddled with sub-bass, it’ll sure be putting the backroom sound system to the test. And finally, local prog-techno noodler on opening proceedings.

En Masse: Paquita Gordon, Sunun (live), Jon K & R.E.D
