A vigil was held for a 22-year-old woman who was found shot and killed early Friday morning on Detroit's west side.
Detroit police responded to the area of Stahline and Vassar for reports of a woman was unresponsive in a car. On arrival, police found the woman dead.
Police initially thought she was assaulted with a bat in the face but later learned she was shot multiple times.
The family identified the victim as Zambrecia Works.
According to the victim's family, she was asked out on a date the day before her death. During her time at the restaurant, she took a video of her food and an image of her date's neck down, which she shared on her social media.
"She was in constant communication with her mom even after the date was over. However, after midnight and as the morning hours started approaching, and now my sister's phone was now going to voicemail, we knew something was wrong," Zambrecia's family told MDN.
That's when police found her in front of an abandoned home in Detroit. The family is now desperate to get answers.
“She was found with injuries to her, but her car and belongings were left untouched and perfectly intact. She was someone who was very bright, had the biggest smile, touched so many people, and was beginning to start her legacy."
