There is promise in the air i feel! Promise of the spring ahead and i am excited by it. I managed to find a few beautiful bits to bring inside today. At this time of year we can be grateful for the smallest gift. Alstroemeria get overlooked most of the time , but i love them! they last for so long in the vase and flower in the middle of January.. winner!

Day 3 of , Today's question is how did i get here?
My flower farming journey started with the death of my father and Chris' father in 2018. The flowers for my fathers funeral were un inspiring so when Chris' dad died a few months later i decided to do them myself, after a lot of YouTube videos i got them done and really enjoyed doing them. A few weeks later I then decided to do a couple of Christmas wreaths with my mum, we had a ball and she clearly saw how much i had enjoyed doing them as for my Christmas present that year she surprised me with a tallulah rose career change course, wow what a present! there was a course the following February that i signed up for. This turned out to be the most amazing month of my life where i met fabulous friends and ultimately discovered that being a British flower grower could be a thing! I was now on a mission to make this happen for me! i put my house on the market and with support and encouragement from my family we moved in to Ivydene in minster lovell just 4 months later in 2019, the photo is of my family with my mum in the middle the day we moved in.The journey has been amazing, the job of flower farming is perfect for me. I will be eternally grateful to my mum forever for seeing the spark in me, she certainly was my biggest fan and was so excited for all we were getting up to here. Unfortunately she lost her battle with cancer last year, i was so proud to do beautiful British flowers for her funeral. my flowers farming journey started with funeral flowers and doing remembrance flowers for families is one of my favourite things to do , they are so very special.

day 2 of , question is what is a day in my life like?
Well it isn't all glamour thats for sure! to be honest it's never glamour! and i wouldn't have it any other way. I am a self employed gardener as well as a flower farmer at home , so life is pretty busy most of the time. January and February are for me nicely slow and i can begin to get the nitty-gritty done. Today i started the task of cleaning greenhouses, a horrible job that i get bored of very quickly! but its essential to allow as much light in as possible on these gloomy dark winter days.

So in my usual style I'm last to the party! I'm taking part in January challenge where flower farmers introduce themselves and what we get up to. This started a few days ago so im on catch up!
Day one question, who am I ?
Well its more like who are we , we are a team. I am Abi and my other half is Chris, we work together to run Ivydene flower farm. He's more the builder and I'm more the grower. We are in the Oxfordshire edge of the Cotswolds near Burford. Growing on a small scale and definitely at the beginning of our flower journey as we only started in march 2020. We sell fresh British flowers to florists and the public from around April to November.

This week i had the honour of creating farewell flowers for a very environmentally conscious lady, her family wanted something that would reflect that and only British flowers would do. I created this on apple tree branches, bunches to be removed afterwards so they could be enjoyed at home.

Today i had the honor of flowering a local church for a gentleman's funeral, its always an honour to do tribute flowers. All the flowers were grown by me so had a max 6miles to travel and no floral foam.

finally the polytunnel is ready for planting, I'm literally giddy as a kipper about it 😁 lots more beds to build and tge irrigation to finish but that there is flowers to look forward to and i for one need that promise.
