Research has shown that teams of 4–6 tend to be more effective. This helps combat groupthink, speeds up decision making, and keeps everyone engaged. On the other hand, there's value in giving everyone a seat at the table.
We asked our leadership team to break down how they look at purpose-driven leadership by the numbers.
Kat Kornegay, Chief Purpose Officer: "The beauty with smaller leadership teams is agility, flexibility and speed to arrive at decisions. 4–5 seems to be the sweet spot. If you're purpose driven and truly empower your leaders and teams, you have a filter to put all decisions through and can work more quickly as a team of any size."
Emily Florio, Chief Strategy Officer: "Obviously size is not the critical issue, as it depends on the business. The critical issue is quality and diversity. You have to be able hold the team to high expectations and high standards. Because it’s trite, but true: the team performs at the level of your lowest performer."
