I recently came across a post that articulated the issues surrounding the original cover design for Dead Can Dance's 1993 album release "Into the Labyrinth." The original image was evocative and deeply resonant with the album's thematic approach, but it was later replaced by a less interesting piece. The discussion highlighted how the initial cover expressed the essence of the music more effectively and the disappointment felt by followers when it was replaced. It's fascinating how much impact album art can have on our experience of music. There were even times when we were compelled to purchase albums just because of it, regardless of whether we stumbled onto a great catch or a dud.

Touhami Ennadre was the photographer of the original piece entitled " Hands of the World" which was reclaimed after a copyright claim that went out of hand.

I guess i'm back on the saddle.
What an incredible night at the Fete De La Musique Gothic Experimental stage on June 28, 2024! It was wonderful to see old friends, former bandmates, and new faces who graced us with their presence. The experience was made even more special by the live performances of newfound bands alongside bands we’ve played with in past years.

It was particularly interesting to finally hear bands like Agham, a shoegaze band from down south Cavite; Volumeswells among those I love; Vicegrip, another up-and-rising shoegaze act from Laguna; the industrial rock Halloween Inc. from up north Cabanatuan; Dark Horse's brand of neo dark folk; and Defraktor, a dark ambient solo act from Norway. Their unique sounds together with our usual roster added fresh energy to the event and truly showcased the diverse talent in our music community.

Vice & Other Bad Habits Bistro was bustling with people, filling the venue both inside and out, clearly demonstrating the event's success. It was amazing to see merchants selling ethnic-bohemian items and band merchandise, a live hand-tapped tattoo session from Katribu Tattoo PH, and onsite tarot readings by Kooky Tuazon's group.

After more than a decade in hiatus, being back on stage with kindred spirits made me realize just how much I missed being around such amazing people and producing such events. Thank you to everyone who made this night remarkable.

I guess the next step would be to continue organizing better events, pushing improvements forward, and maintaining a united front. By focusing on these goals, we can ensure that our efforts remain impactful and that everyone involved feels connected and motivated. Let's strive to create experiences that resonate deeply with our community, fostering growth and unity along the way.

Let's keep the music alive, the connections strong, and the events meaningful, so to speak. 🙂

Who is The Slavedrum
Taking their name from one of DCD's lyrics, the band was formed in early 2001. The original lineup consisted of Jerome Velasco (ambient guitars and drum machine), Paulo Pacia (bass), Ramon Mayor (vocals and acoustic guitar), and Christian Concepcion (drum programming, sequencing, and sound design).

In 2003, they released their indie debut, Remembering Nothing, under their own label, Dissonance Records. The album showcased their obsession with hypnotic soundscapes, featuring droning, ambient guitars complemented by beats that were both contemplative and primal. The band performed at various local events under Elysium and Circa1849 Artist Netwerk and opened for the Swedish industrial band Interlace.
