the week that was:
the eddies boys this week participated in the 41st confraternity carnival hosted by QISSRL. this year the carnival was held at Iona college in the Brisbane’s Bayside.
the confro squad had been training hard since the backend of the AIC rugby season in term 2 and looked to kickstart confro with a bang since last year’s unfortunate cancellation of the carnival due to COVID.
with an early start on monday morning the lads faced a familiar St Laurences College and narrowly went down 22-12 which saw a lot of hope to come out of our next match up with lauries in Term 3. the second game was played later that afternoon and the pack looked to make up for a loss that morning. right from the first whistle the Eddies boys were in control and never once took the foot off the throat coming out 50-0 winners over a brave St Thomas Moore College opponents.
they finished the first day of the carnival 1-1 and had alot of confidence heading into day two of the competition.
day two saw a morning game against St Mary’s College, Wooree. a game eddies needed to win in order to cement their spot in the Top 8 of the competition heading into the quarer finals that afternoon. straight off the bat the pack played with great determination and composure coming away 20-6 victors.
that was it, the lads had booked a ticket into the quarter finals which was the first step into the attempt to take the trophy home to the switch. after a quick step away from the ground to recover and prepare for what would’ve been a great afternoon of rugby league news struck that the carnival had been canceled effective immediately due to the increasing COVID outbreak across QLD which saw a state wide lockdown. a very unfortunate result for the boys in what would’ve been one of our best performances at confro to date, tragedy and heartbreak for our year 12 boys who competed in their first and last confraternity carnival but plenty of positives to take out in their run into the 2021 AIC Term 3 Rugby League season.
