For about 4 years, I have been a part of the crew that take turns livestreaming the Auckland Council meetings to youtube and Auckland Council website.
I have always turned up early, learnt from the best (Thank you to the livestream team) , and done my best to be putting out the best product I can.
No matter what content was being discussed, passed, presented, or otherwise, I have maintained that that does not affect how I treat the role of streaming it out to the public. For me, it was and is about the role, and doing everything technically possible to present that.
I maintained respect for all councilors and staff, no matter what political alliances or views on matters. In fact I must say Councilor Alf Filipaina gets the award for best humor and home baked goodies he would bring in to meetings. Thank you Alf!
From this Friday 3rd December, despite being fully healthy, I will be banned from entering the worksite (Auckland Town Hall - An Auckland Council owned building) I have spent many hours over the last 4 years (less the last 2 due to online meetings, but still some, between lockdowns). I will miss the place where I had opportunity to expand my skills while supporting openness and transparency of council meetings by streaming them out to the public.
It is a sad time, that despite being a healthy person, I am being banned from Council buildings, not for any misconduct, not for any bust-ups with Councilors or staff, or any other understandable reasons… no, I am being banned for a private medical decision that should stay between myself and my GP.
I have made a decision for myself based on family history of reactions to particular medications / treatments, knowing long term friends who have had terrible reactions to this mandated experimental treatment, and a lot of research.

With no disrespect Mayor Phil Goff, I am one of the people you have been labelling as “Idiots” and “Stupid” in the media lately for standing against this apartheid system of discrimination, and I will happily keep standing with them (The Freedoms & Rights Coalition NZ) and doing whatever I can technically to support them. If that means I, as a taxpayer, am banned from the very places and services that our taxes and rates pay for, then I continue to stand on the right side of history.
In saying that, well I guess I am banned from the Auckland Town Hall so won’t be able to be part of livestreaming until the healthy unvaccinated people are once again regarded as real people.
