A few people have been saying that their venues have told them they can only have a maximum of 6 people on a table.

IMPORTANT UPDATE //

Important update for those who's weddings will be taking place before the 19th July

As you may have seen, the Prime Minister announced that the step 4 easing of the restrictions will be delayed until the 19th July instead of the 21st June as originally planned.

Although the restriction will still be in place, the PM did mention that the restriction of number of guests at a wedding would be removed and the number of guests now allowed to attend a wedding will be based on the number of people that can safely be accommodated in the venue while socially distancing.

The UK Weddings Taskforce (https://www.instagram.com/uk_weddingsorg/) will be explaining what this means and give us an update on the latest conversations they've been having with Government officials at 2:30pm today on Instagram.

In the meantime, here are the bullet points:
- If getting married in a COVID-secure venue, the venue manager will need to tell you the maximum number of people who will be able to attend your event.
- For events taking place in other venues (e.g. private gardens), organisers will need to ensure the space is as safe as possible.
- If you're having a marquee in your garden, you must have 50% of the walls removed to be classed as outdoors.
- If you plan on having more than 30 people in an "other venue" or garden, you must conduct a COVID-19 risk assessment to determine how many attendees will be able to attend.
- Events are not allowed inside private homes unless you're having an "urgent marriage" or you have a maximum of 6 people or 2 households.
- Instead of people being required to stay 2 metres away from each other, people are encouraged to exercise caution and consider the guidance on the risks.
- Face coverings are still required to be worn inside by guests apart from when eating or drinking (unless exempt).
- Dancing is advised against - dance floors are not allowed.
- Food and drink must be served and consumed while seated at a table

Yipes! We've been away for a while on here. It wasn't intentional, we promise...just focussed a lot on Instagram for a bit.

We are indeed still here. And here's a little update of what's been going on with us and The Asian Wedding Club.

1. We've been working on The AWC Membership! It's been a little while coming and with everything going on, we've had to make some adjustments. But you can see an update on our interim website: https://theasianweddingclub.com/
2. We're getting a new website! And there will be an Asian wedding blog arriving with it...
3. LaToya's hair doesn't look like that right now...but she hope to have it back soon! Ajay's hair is much the same 😁
4. Like most of you...we also haven't dressed like this in AGES!
5. We did a bunch over the Summer and early Autumn working with the wider wedding sector to contribute to getting a better situation for all of us.
6. LaToya has been interviewed by Guides for Brides and is doing some work with them and their wedding venues...more info coming soon
7. We did our judging for The Wedding Industry Awards! Good luck to all who entered!
8. The AWC got to a milestone 1K followers on Instagram...which we did get pretty excited about!

Next major milestone for The AWC will be our Membership launch - planned for Jan 2021! Stay tuned and keep an eye out for upcoming online events from us too. Getting a little excited about those!

Okay, so we've been doing more than we thought! 😅

In any case...we do hope you're all doing as well as can be expected...and even looking forward to the festivities ahead!

Our hearts are heavy after today's Prime Minister's statement. Whilst we feel immensely frustrated that our couples and colleagues, we will continue to fight for our sector and for our clients. We’re here for the long haul. ❤️
⠀⠀⠀
Please do have a little patience over the next week with the campaign team at - we’re not going anywhere, but we do need time to process this latest update and work out the next steps.
⠀⠀⠀
For now though, we want to thank all of you for your exceptional campaign support so far - couples, businesses owners, everyone.

As far as we are aware weddings in the UK are NOT 'superspreader' events - the government's own statistics prove that. We know what sacrifices have been made in guest numbers, overall wedding celebrations and postponements. For some of you they have been greater than others. Know we are thinking of you.
⠀⠀⠀
Whilst we regroup and work things out, we have a huge favour to ask of all of you: PLEASE make some noise tonight. Share the hashtag on Twitter and here on Instagram. TELL YOUR STORIES. Regram others. Support one another. Pick up your laptop and write to your your local MP. Even if you’ve done it before. Tell them in no uncertain terms how reducing weddings from 30 to 15 (for at least 6 months) will impact your wedding, and/or your wedding business. We need to use tonight to ensure we are all heard. Worth £14.7bn to the economy every year. Hundreds of thousands of couples, businesses and jobs are impacted.

🤍 The WhatAboutWeddings.co.uk website gives access MP letter templates and links to find out who your MP is.
⠀⠀⠀
🤍 If you’re planning on going ahead with with your weddings of 15 max from Monday 28 Sep you can find lots of useful info about how to celebrate safely at CovidSafeWeddings.co.uk.

If anyone is struggling with mental health in the light of further restrictions today, know you are not alone. The Samaritans are free and 24hr on 116 123.

FOR THE SUPPLIERS //

The campaign has been created to lobby government and highlight the critical need of our wedding sector for clarity (a roadmap), parity (for all weddings and all wedding businesses) and choice (financial support for the sector that gives both businesses and couples choice). The campaign also sets out to shine a spotlight on the issues that weddings suppliers, venues and couples are experiencing as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The government do not understand our sector. We need to convince and prove to them that our sector is worth supporting and saving. This survey seeks to obtain vital information and data that will be used to influence and inform discussions with government.

It takes around 5 minutes to complete this survey. And you can find it here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/whataboutweddings1

Please only complete it if you are a wedding supplier or venue!

This is a hugely important opportunity for you, as the owner of a business who earns income and generates revenue through weddings, to highlight the issues and challenges that you are facing. This is your chance to make yourself heard and visible. Your participation in this data gathering exercise is crucial and your contribution is hugely valued.

Please also be fully reassured that this survey is entirely anonymous; all responses are stored securely and will be deleted when no longer required. We have no way of identifying businesses or individuals from any responses.

Thank you so much for your time.

Thank you to Love My Dress Occasion Queens Wild & Oak - Ceremonies & Celebrations Sarah Haywood Weddings & Celebrations Studio Sorores Mrs Wedding-Planner SW Events for putting this together ♥️

IMPORTANT COVID19 UPDATE
⠀⠀⠀⠀
From LaToya & Ajay here at &
⠀⠀⠀⠀
————⠀⠀⠀⠀
has today published an incredibly important article that we support. Please read it (grab coffee, it's long):

lovemydress.net/whataboutweddings

__
This update follows months of conversations and consultations with brides, couples, suppliers, industry leaders, and more recently, a number of MP’s. I’ve been working very hard behind the scenes these past few months with , also .queens and . We've recently taken those conversations to wider industry, with colleagues like and . We've sought consultation from a broad and inclusive selection of industry leaders in deciding how we move forward in this crisis with inclusivity and not a 'one size fits all' approach.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
The wedding industry is serious business and worth over £10bn to the UK economy annually. It’s estimated £3billion has been lost this season already. 500,000 + jobs are at risk.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Tens of thousands of couples remain in the dark and have had to postpone or (sadly) cancel their wedding day. The impact on their mental health has been gigantic.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
I understand this article is a hard read, but feel it’s only fair that we're honest and that everyone understands the reality of the current situation. Crucially, any guidelines given MUST take into account the diversity and complexity of weddings of all faiths and cultures.

We are an industry of creative problem solvers who aren't standing by idly. We urge you now to stand together with us.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s time to push harder and campaign.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Couples, suppliers, venues - we all need to have our individual voices heard.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s time to stand up for the freelancers, sole traders, small businesses and consumers who together NEED a roadmap to recovery and guidance on how to plan ahead for these incredibly important and meaningful celebrations. We need solutions that work for all weddings. We all need the same thing – clarity and choice.

HAVE YOUR SAY //

We've recently been working with The Future Collective, a group of wedding professionals who are compiling important information that the Government needs to be able to create useful guidelines for weddings going forward.

Last month, The Future Collective conducted a survey that 1,300 wedding couples completed. They've now created a new survey, that has a few questions in there that we thought were relevant to Asian and other cultural weddings.

It's super important to us that as many people form as many cultures as possible complete this survey. So the guidelines that are created fully represent what ALL couples want from their weddings.

So, it takes less than 15 minutes, please click on the link in bio to complete it and do pass it on to any couples you know getting married.

03/07/2020

Here are our thoughts on the latest guidelines. We’ll also post a link below to the actual guidelines in case you haven’t seen them yet. Plus a few words on how we’re working towards making a difference. We really do believe that we need to be part of the solution. And so...when we were invited to be on that pitch, the only answer was “YES”.

Stay with us. Tag your friends or family who may need to hear this. Drop a comment below. We’d love to hear your views on this.

For so many reasons, it's time.

We started the Asian Wedding Club to create a space that didn't really exist at the time. And as time has passed, we're beginning to realise:

1. Just how important our Wedding Industry is to us
2. How important it is to be part of the solution
3. That we simply are not the people to wait for something to happen to us
4. Just how incredible a group of suppliers we have onboarded
5. That we are very happy to be the ones with our hands up, sleeves rolled up, ready to influence the future of weddings

While speculation continues and we all seek clarity, we want to be a source of . We want to have about how people are feeling and what they're going through. AND we strive to be a positive influence in the industry.

THINGS WE'RE DOING:

- We're now part of a group called The Future Collective who are behind the scenes influencing the information that goes to Government when it comes to the future of Weddings. Alongside our AWC Approved Suppliers, we'll be contributing a view from the Asian wedding scene and our respective parts of the industry to help shape and influence how weddings in the UK progress.

- We were invited to speak with Coco Wedding Venues to help shape the next iteration of their venue finding platform, which is one we love.

- We're planning a session for some about the emotional toll all of this is having on couples and suppliers alike, with a view to supporting our collective wellbeing.

So, we're listening. We're working...hard. And we're here for you.

If you're a Bride or Groom planning your Asian Wedding - you can be part of the solution and we want to hear from you. Join our FB Group. Let's chat all things weddings!

Hello! We thought we'd say a quick hello as it's been a little while and we've had more people like and follow our page since our last appearance!

Thank you!

So, this is us. LaToya & Ajay Patel. Some of you may know us from our Wedding Planning business (SW Events), and to others we may be completely new.

1. We are Apple people through and through
2. Pizza is a weakness
3. We have a Fox Red Labrador
4. LaToya started drinking coffee because it was a "grown up" drink
5. Ajay's "lockdown love" has been growing tomatoes from seeds - still a work in progress
6. We love to travel even though we don't get to do it as much as we want to
7. We've gotten really used to being at home and quite enjoy it now
8. LaToya loves to binge-watch TV Shows (how she finds the time, nobody knows!)
9. Before getting into the Wedding Industry one of us was in the IT industry and the other in the hospitality industry, guess who...
10. We really LOVE what we do

If any of this resonates with you, we'd love to hear from you! Drop a comment below, let us know something about you, like this post or reach out to us directly. 😁

ONE FOR THE GUYS //

Because we want this feed to be for you all 😘

Love this fun capture from Moss Wedding Films

"Not all weddings are serious!

I'm an award winning wedding film maker covering the UK and destination weddings. I understand the huge importance of capturing each special moment of your wedding day, without compromise, which is why I aim to unobtrusively film every detail to produce a stunning, elegant and timeless film.

With coverage starting from preparations and continuing until after the dancing with no time constraints, I capture your day in its fullest. My style of filming is very unobtrusive and laid back with good use of natural light, no big tripods, lights and over the top equipment. I aim to blend into the background and capture your day as it happens, without those awkward and staged poses.

I'm based in the UK and available for destination weddings around the world."

//

There has been a lot going on in the world, with tragedy in no short supply. We’ve done our part when it came to the pandemic and the impact on weddings.

It’s time for us to talk about . They do. And there’s no hiding from the colours of our skin. We wear them with pride.
You’ll have clocked that one of us is Black and the other Asian. You’ll have spotted that we are married. And it’s without doubt that we’ve made a life for ourselves in the Asian Wedding Market. That’s been an interesting journey for us both and is a story for another time.

We want to be open with our support for the Black community. We want to be open about LaToya being very affected by it. We want to be open about Ajay taking the time to learn more deeply about what’s happening. We want to be open in that we don’t have all the answers.

What we both do know and believe is that . And we’ve seen some great solidarity in that message within the Asian Wedding community and our personal lives. We’ve also seen people miss the point completely. Yes “all lives matter” that is a given but is not the point.
We love what we do. We love the industry we’ve had the pleasure to work in. We love so very many of you suppliers and clients who’ve brought some great moments to our lives. And we look forward to continuing to be part of it...in a more open way. 🖤🖤

What’s it all about?

The Asian Wedding Club was founded by Ajay and LaToya who also run the Luxury Asian Wedding Planning company, SW Events.

It’s been a labour of love for us and at the time of writing this, there’s still so much more amazing stuff to come! Here’s what you need to know:

~ FOR COUPLES: There’s a free (private) Facebook Group you can join and be in the company of other people who are going through the same as you. You’ll also get exclusive access to our knowledge and experience - whether that’s troubleshooting or just a little support. | There will be a paid membership (coming soon) that will give you access to (1) Exclusive offers from our trusted AWC Suppliers, (2) Access to our wedding planning software, which is a massive feature when we plan weddings, (3) Planning Guides.

~ FOR WEDDING SUPPLIERS: We love you but you don’t get access to the Facebook Group, that’s a Wedding Couple’s only paradise. However, we’re starting with suppliers we know and love to join AWC - this is because we want to ensure we can truly “vouch” for people. However, as an AWC Approved Supplier we’ll be getting you in front of our members and generally sharing and shouting about why we love working with you.
