Have you asked for that donation or something that you want?

In life, especially when it comes to asking for what you need or want, there are two key obstacles you should be aware of: expectations and assumptions.

These "devils" can sabotage your efforts.

Expectations can create pressure, making you doubt whether it's the right time to ask, while assumptions often lead to misinterpretation—thinking someone might say "no" without even asking.

Keeping these in check is crucial. Don’t let them prevent you from speaking up.

Similarly, three tempters—
luck,
chance, and
time—
can make you postpone your asks.

Relying on luck or hoping for the "right moment" can lead to missed opportunities.

Waiting for the perfect timing or depending on chance can easily become a crutch.

The truth is, there is no perfect moment. I just wanted to let you know that waiting only delays your progress.

So, the next time you hesitate, remember to guard against expectations and assumptions and avoid relying on luck, chance, or time.

Ask when you’re ready, not when everything seems perfect.

You might be surprised by how much you can achieve just by taking that step.

It’s that time of year again… yep, tax season is upon us! People like me are knee-deep in receipts and trying to make sense of that pile of paperwork.

❗️But here’s a fun twist—while you’re compiling your tax documents, it’s also the perfect opportunity to reach out to your donors.

Yes, you read that right.

It’s not just about tax returns; it’s about tax-deductible donations, too!

With less than 19 days left in the year, now’s the time to make that final fundraising push.

But, let’s be clear: don’t just ask for money and hope for the best.

No one likes a generic “send us money” email. Instead, give your supporters a reason to feel good about giving.

Here’s what you should include, courtesy of OneCause:

✅Annual Impact: Show off what your nonprofit accomplished this year. Did you save puppies? Feed thousands of families? Highlight your biggest win—let people know the good they’re helping to create. For example, an animal shelter could proudly share how many fur babies found their forever homes in 2024.

✅Milestones Hit: If you’ve crushed any big goals, shout it from the rooftops! Maybe you built a new community center or raised enough funds to launch a life-changing program. Share those achievements and show that your nonprofit is on the move.

✅Quantitative Data: Numbers matter. They give your impact credibility and show that you’re a nonprofit worth supporting. Share the numbers behind your success, like how many people you’ve served or how many pounds of food you’ve distributed. People like facts!

✅Qualitative Data: Numbers are great, but don’t forget the feels. Share a powerful story from a beneficiary or volunteer. Get people emotionally invested in your cause. A moving testimonial can turn a "maybe" into a "yes!"

🤷🏽‍♀️So, what are you waiting for?

❗️Send that email or quick newsletter today!

❗️Remind your supporters that with their help, you can finish the year strong and hit the ground running in 2025.

PS: Don't forget to sign up for one or two of my upcoming nonprofit management and fundraising classes in 2025.

I absolutely love this thought-provoking quote: “What if it does work exactly how you imagined it—or even better?” — Idillionaire.

Isn’t that an exciting thought? When we allow ourselves to imagine what could be, the possibilities seem endless. This is exactly what I want to talk about today: the immense power of imagination and vision, and how those very qualities can shape our future in ways we never thought possible.

When my child was a toddler, one of the first things she’d ask as soon as we got into the car for a trip was, “Are we there yet?” And let me tell you, that question would come again in five minutes. Then, 30 minutes later, we’d hear it again. It didn’t matter that we hadn’t even left the city yet—she was ready to be at the destination, right now.

As frustrating as it was back then, I realize now how much that impatience mirrored my own. How many times in my life have I asked God, “Are we there yet?

4Be cheerful with joyous celebration in every season of life. Let your joy overflow!

5And let gentleness be seen in every relationship, for our Lord is ever near.

6Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life,

7then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will guard your heart and mind through Jesus Christ.

8Keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always.

9Put into practice the example of all that you have heard from me or seen in my life and the God of peace will be with you in all things.

𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝑏𝑦 𝐸𝑠𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝐴𝑚𝑢𝑛𝑔𝑎

𝐿𝑎𝑠𝑡 𝑛𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡, 𝑑𝑢𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑓𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑦 𝑑𝑒𝑣𝑜𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛, 𝑤𝑒 𝑑𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑜 𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑏𝑠 3:5, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐼 𝑑𝑒𝑐𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑡𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑎 𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑡𝑙𝑒 𝑑𝑖𝑓𝑓𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑎𝑐ℎ—𝑏𝑦 𝑎𝑠𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑚𝑦 𝑑𝑎𝑢𝑔ℎ𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑡𝑜 𝑠ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑒 ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ𝑡𝑠 𝑜𝑛 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑡 𝑚𝑒𝑎𝑛𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝑡𝑟𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝐺𝑜𝑑. 𝐻𝑒𝑟 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑒? "𝑇𝑜 𝑟𝑒𝑙𝑦 𝑜𝑛 𝐻𝑖𝑚 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑘𝑛𝑜𝑤 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝐻𝑒 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑑𝑜 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝐻𝑒 𝑠𝑎𝑦𝑠 𝐻𝑒 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑑𝑜. 𝐼𝑡 𝑚𝑒𝑎𝑛𝑠 𝑤𝑒 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡 𝑜𝑛 𝐻𝑖𝑚." 𝑃𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑦 𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑡-𝑜𝑛, 𝑟𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡? But then came the real zinger. I asked her, "What are some ways I (as your mama) don’t show that I trust God?" Without skipping a beat, she replied, “When you’re not patient, it shows you don’t trust God.” Pause. I wasn’t prepared for that one! Of course, I immediately went into defensive mode, trying to justify how patient I am because, after all, I’ve been waiting for some big things in my life to unfold.

But then she hit me with the truth: "In the mornings, you're not patient with me!" Hahahaha! Ok, guilty as charged. If you’ve ever tried to get a kiddo ready or out of bed really early in the morning, you know that patience gets tested faster than you can say “breakfast.”

As I reflected on her words last night and this morning, I realized something powerful. Sometimes, we find ourselves waiting for things to happen in our own time frame—and when they don’t, it can feel like we’re stuck in the slow lane of life. And let me tell you, that can be discouraging. In those moments, we need to pause and ask ourselves: Are we truly trusting God, or are we leaning on our own understanding?

I’m sure many of you can relate. You’ve been waiting for something to happen, but it’s taking longer than expected—or maybe it feels like it's never going to happen. You’re ready to throw in the towel. That’s when we need to remind ourselves of Proverbs 3:5:

"𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗢𝗥𝗗 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴."

You see, the verse doesn’t just encourage us to trust in God—it calls us to do it with all our heart. And that means letting go of the need to control every outcome or have all the answers. Trusting God means surrendering our own timelines and letting Him work things out in His perfect way and timing.

So, if you're like me and you’re feeling impatient, remember this: Trust isn’t about having all the answers right now. It’s about having faith that God’s got it all under control—even when we don’t see it or feel it. And as I’m learning (thanks to my wise daughter), sometimes trust just means waiting patiently. Even when it's hard. Even when the mornings are chaotic.

As I’m finding, it’s in those quiet moments of waiting that God is teaching us to lean not on our own understanding, but on His perfect plan. And that, my friends, is worth trusting.

“We have very little faith in the Lord, very little trust. If we trusted the Lord as much as we trust a friend when we ask him to do something for us, neither we as individuals nor our whole country would suffer so much.”― Elder Thaddeus of Vitovnica, Our Thoughts Determine Our Lives: The Life and Teachings of Elder Thaddeus of Vitovnica

My Blue Raincoat inspired me to write this article today.

Raincoats are synonymous with rain. After all, no one wants to get wet. I’ve always loved the rain—not just the sound of it, but the experience of walking in it, feeling the cool droplets on my skin, and letting it wash away the noise of the world around me. It takes me back to my childhood when we would play in the puddles and wade through the trenches—what we called “ditches” where I grew up. Those were the days of carefree joy, of letting go and being present in the moment.

Several years ago, I bought myself a beautiful blue raincoat from a thrift store. It was a designer brand, and I told myself it would serve me well for those days when I would take my toddler out to play in the rain. It did its job, but after a while, I didn’t have much use for it. Still, I told myself, “Save it for a rainy day… it may just come in handy.” And there it stayed—in the trunk of my car, year after year, untouched. I was waiting for a rainy day, right?

Last night, my daughter and I took turns saying out loud things we are grateful for. It was a wonderful moment and memory.

Today, choose gratitude.
Today, choose progress over perfection.
Today, choose not criticize, complain or compare.

You may not have everything you want, but if you have breath that alone is something to be grateful for.

Today, I am grateful to be here.
Happy Thanksgiving.
