Ashburnham area folks - I’ve got a few bouquets of freshly harvested flowers. $25 // DM me if you want one
By many standard measures, my flower farm was epic fail this season. Between the many hours I spent at the bookstore, the drought, and the rabbits and deer, the flowers that bloomed did so against all odds. Most significantly, I lost dozens of dahlia tubers, their attempts to grow at the mercy of persistent and thorough rabbits who made a daily meal out of them. But when I am walking through the beds, the buzzing of the bees, the whirl of the hummingbirds, and the fluttering of the butterflies remind me that there is something magical happening regardless. Providing food and habitat for the pollinators. Learning to be patient and embrace the process of building something new. Staying in the present and appreciating what IS blooming. None of this is easy for me so it feels like there must be a little magic involved when I remember to slow down and see the growth.
Seedling patch - second plant to bloom - similar to the first plant but without the pink undertones
Special request: blast of color
Bucket of blooms // for a final farewell
The big reveal 😂 you called it right - pale yellow with just a hint of pink
Welcome to the world 🤩
Love watching this one unfurl a little more each day. What do you think - will the tinges of pink last or will this baby be all yellow?
Dahlia breeding for the first time. Gathered seeds from bee pollinated plants last season. Started them indoors during early spring. Transplanted in June. This is the first one to bud. Dahlias have 8 sets of chromosomes, which accounts for widely varying offspring. Can’t wait to see what this blossom will look like!
First time growing scabiosa. So much to love about them - thin, wiry stems great for design work, good vase life, and those blossoms!!!
Bonus: amazing pollinators 🦋🐝
