Nujabes Tribute Beat Tape vinyl mix on YouTube🌻
Welcome to the 8th episode of ‘LP Joint Sessions’.
On this episode we’re paying tribute to legendary producer Nujabes, who burst onto the Japanese hip-hop scene in the late 1990s. The name Nujabes is his real name spelled backwards (Jun Seba). He would've been 50 years young this month. Seba owned a record store, Guinness Records, and founded his own independent record label, Hyde Out Recordings. He was also one of the most prolific contributors to the soundtrack of the critically acclaimed anime series Samurai Champloo, which blends a feudal Japanese setting with modern anachronisms, especially in regard to hip-hop culture.

In 1978, Columbia released a vinyl album titled Lupin III Original Soundtrack, which contained several pieces from the second TV series. It was later re-released to CD in 1994.

The music to this soundtrack is composed, arranged, and produced by Yuji Ohno.

Yuji Ohno is a Japanese jazz musician known for his musical scoring of Japanese anime television series, particularly Lupin III, and most famously the 1977 series Lupin III Part II and the feature film The Castle of Cagliostro.

The series is based on the Lupin III (also written as Lupin the Third, Lupin the 3rd, or Lupin the IIIrd) manga written by Monkey Punch beginning in 1967.
The story centers on the adventures of Lupin III, the grandson of Arsène Lupin, the gentleman thief of Maurice Leblanc's series of novels. Lupin III is considered the world's greatest thief, known for announcing his intentions to steal valuable objects by sending a calling card to their owners. Lupin and his gang are constantly chased by Interpol Inspector Zenigata, who has made it his life's work to arrest them, pursuing Lupin across the globe.

On this cut BoomBaptist edits Rick James classic bud smoking anthem "Mary Jane". It was released on September 9, 1978 as the second single from his debut album Come Get It!

The lyrics of the song are a thinly-veiled ode to James' love of ma*****na aka "Mary Jane". During live performances of the song, James frequently had stage props that looked like giant joints and then would light up an actual joint.

This release is a collection of vocal theme songs commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Sailor Moon anime. Contains theme songs from both the original 1992-1996 TV and movie adaptations of the series, and the 2014-2016 Crystal retelling and associated 2021 Eternal feature film, split across two transluscent pink LPs.

Sailor Moon is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi. It was originally serialized in Kodansha's shōjo manga magazine Nakayoshi from 1991 to 1997; the 52 individual chapters were published in 18 volumes.

The manga was adapted into an anime series produced by Toei Animation and broadcast in Japan from 1992 to 1997. Toei also developed three animated feature films, a television special, and three short films based on the anime.

Takanori Arisawa composed the score for Sailor Moon's anime adaptation. Arisawa earned the Golden Disk Grand Prize from Columbia Records for his work on the first series soundtrack in 1993. He continued to compose for the entire anime series, plus several video games and some of the stage musicals.

The song "Moonlight Densetsu" served as the opening theme being performed by DALI for the first two seasons of Sailor Moon's anime adaptation.
The song was a big hit in Japan. In 1995, the original 1992 single by DALI was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of Japan. An online survey conducted in 2008 by Goo recognized it as the most popular song from an anime series for karaoke from 1991 to 2000. "Moonlight Densetsu" won first place in the Song category in Animage's 15th and 16th Anime Grand Prix.

Yū Yū Hakusho is a manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi.

Togashi began creating Yū Yū Hakusho around November 1990, basing the series on his interests in the occult and horror films and an influence of Buddhist mythology.

The manga series was originally serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 1990 to July 1994. The Manga won the prestigious Shogakukan Manga Award for shōnen manga in 1993.

The anime adaptation was directed by Noriyuki Abe and co-produced by Fuji Television, and Studio Pierrot. The series consisting of 112 episodes, aired from October 10, 1992, to January 7, 1995, on Fuji Television.

In early 2001, the series was acquired by Funimation for North American distribution as: Yu Yu Hakusho: Ghost Files.

The Animated series won the Animage Anime Grand Prix prize for best anime in 1994 and 1995 and the second best in 1993 after Sailor Moon.

This series is one of my all time favorites along with its opening and all its closing theme songs, both Japanese and English versions always gets me grooving.
The series has one opening theme, "Hohoemi no Bakudan" by Matsuko Mawatari, as well as five closing themes: "Homework ga Owaranai," "Sayonara Bye-Bye," and "Daydream Generation" by Mawatari, and "Unbalance na Kiss wo Sh*te" and "Taiyou ga Mata Kagayaku Toki" by Hiro Takahashi.

🌙Fun fact:
Yoshihiro Togashi, the author of Yū Yū Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter is married to Naoko Takeuchi, the author of Sailor Moon.

Shredder's Revenge is a beat 'em up with a pixelated artstyle. It is inspired by and based on the 1987 Turtles animated series and borrows stylistically from the arcade and home console games developed by Konami during the 1980s and 1990s such as Turtles in Time (1991).

The Turtles voice actors from the 1987 series reprise their roles in this game. The soundtrack was composed by Tee Lopes, with contributions from guitarist Jonny Atma, rapper Mega Ran, singer Mike Patton, and Ghostface Killah and Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan.

This is a complete 1990 score to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the movie. The complete film music by DuPrez has been re-stored & re-mastered for a LP album release.

The complete album art was created by Kevin Eastman exclusively for Waxwork Records, and it features his classic comic-book style presented as a sequential storyline of the 1990 film (slides 3 & 4).

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was released theatrically in the United States on March 30, 1990, by New Line Cinema. It is the first film adaptation of the comic book characters created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird.

The film adapts the early TMNT comics, with several elements taken from the animated series airing at the time such as the Turtles' colored bandanas and love of pizza.

The turtle costumes were developed by Jim Henson's Creature Shop in London, one of Jim Henson's last projects before his death shortly after the premiere. Jim Henson said that the creatures were the most advanced that he had ever worked with. The creatures were first made out of fiberglass, and then remolded out of clay. They were produced as molds to cast the whole body in foam rubber latex. The work at the Creature Shop was completed within 18 weeks. Filming took place in 1989 in North Carolina and New York City.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up released by Konami. It was first released for the Famicom in Japan on the 13th of December in 1991, and for the NES in North America in February 1992.
It is the third video game iteration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES. The game features play mechanics similar to the previous game, TMNT II: The Arcade Game, but it is an original title for the NES without any preceding arcade version. It is based on the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, released after the show's 5th season.

The Japanese version of The Manhattan Project was released under the title of 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Manhattan Project', a number behind its American release due to the name change in Japan of the first TMNT game for the NES, releasing as "Gekikame Ninja Den" instead of the TMNT brand. Therefore TMNT 2 and 3, became TMNT 1 and 2 in Japan.

The NES version of Tournament Fighters was the final game Konami released for the platform in NA and the PAL region in 1994. Unlike the other versions of Tournament Fighters, it was not released in Japan. Tournament Fighters was one of the few fighting games released for the NES during the fighting game boom.

Dragon Ball – Mystical Adventure! // Romantic Ageru Yo

Dragon Ball is a Japanese media franchise created by Akira Toriyama in 1984. Originally inspired by the classical 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West, combined with elements of Hong Kong martial arts films.

This 7" has the theme song singles to the TV anime "Dragon Ball" reprinted in analog to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the broadcast. The two songs on here served as the opening and ending themes for the anime from the start of broadcasting in 1986 to the end of broadcasting in 1989.

Makafushigi Adventure! (Mystical Adventure!) is the opening theme for the anime adaption of Dragon Ball. The song was written by Yuriko Mori, the music was composed by Takeshi Ike with the arrangement from Kōhei Tanaka, and it is performed by Hiroki Takahashi.
Hiroki Takahashi also recorded an English version, which was released as part of the 2008 album Inazuma Challenger.

The song Romantic Ageru Yo (I'll Give You Romance) is the ending theme for the anime. The song was written by Takemi Yoshida, the music was composed by Takeshi Ike with arrangement from Kōhei Tanaka, and it is performed by Ushio Hashimoto.
In 2007, Shōko Nakagawa released her own version of "Romantic Ageru Yo" on her album Shokotan Cover: Anison Ni Koi Wo Sh*te. There is a special CD+DVD bundle that includes the music video for the song, which does a little homage to the original animation to the song.

BUDDHA BRAND is a Japanese hip-hop unit consisting of rapper and producer Dev Large, rapper NIPPS, CQ, and DJ Master Key. Formed in 1989 and had their major debut from cutting edge in 1996.

The four members of Buddha Brand met in New York City. In 1988 CQ and DJ MASTERKEY moved to New York, met DEV LARGE and NIPPS in 1989, and formed the predecessor group "Rumor Channel". In 1990, the group name was changed to BUDDHA BRAND and full-scale activities began (During this period, Dev Large and DJ Master Key were regular DJs at several clubs in Brooklyn, including Gorilla’s Den and Soul Powers).

The group returned to Japan in 1995 and debuted on May 22, 1996 with the single "Ningen Power Plant" from cutting edge.

DEV LARGE died suddenly in the early morning of May 4, 2015. On May 5, 2019, they announced their restart.

In June 2019, the first 7" single "Code na Conversation" was released and sold out immediately. After that, two more singles was released. On October 30th, the first album after the restart, "This is the Buddha Brand!" was released.

This repress includes "Matador Instrumental" as a bonus track. In addition, the artwork has been completely revised for analog. To my understading this is the final analog record for BUDDHA BRAND, "This is the Buddha brand!

The singles on here are from Anri's 6th studio album "Timely!!" released in late 1983. One of her hits from 1983 was "Kanashimi ga Tomaranai" ("I Can't Stop the Loneliness"). The single "Remember Summer Days" (on side B) was released on CD (Jul 16, 2008) for the first time 25 years after its release as a bonus track for "Timely!!"

Initial copies come with a slightly different obi and a fashion calendar for the year 1984. The 1984 calendar is included only for the first pressing of each analog LP and cassette tape. The jacket and inner sleeve were filmed in Hawaii. 

Anri is a Japanese pop singer-songwriter, born in Yamato, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Her debut release was the 1978 Oribia o Kikinagara (While Listening to Olivia).

" Timely!! " is Anri 's sixth studio album released on December 5th, 1983. The album was a collaboration between Toshiki Kadomatsu and Anri. It is considered one of Anri's best albums.

The single "Cat's Eye" served as the opening for the 1983 anime series of the same name. It was one of the highest selling singles in Japan in 1983, remaining number-one for five consecutive weeks. The single was re-recorded for the album and the arrangement is very different from the single, which was a big hit in the same year. ヾ(⌐■_■)ノ♪

The singles on this 7" colored vinyl are cover songs off of Emma's album "Cover Selection 1 - Midnight Lady" released in 2019.

Emma Hazy Minami is a "Virtual Singer" who mainly posts song videos on YouTube. Emma made her YouTube debut on November 15, 2018. She is a mysterious female singer who appears in a club in the virtual Minami in a corner of the virtual world, and she calls herself a "virtual club singer". She broadcasts live songs on her YouTube channel called "Emma's Bar". Her character design was handled by illustrator Shogo Shogo. 

On October 16, 2019 Emma released her album "Cover Selection 1 - Midnight Lady" on CD. The album covered classics such as Plastic Love by Mariya Takeuchi, Telephone Number by Junko Ohashi and Stay With Me by Miki Matsubara.

On February 25th 2020, Emma Hazy Minami announced her indefinite hiatus.

On August 8, 2020 during the hiatus the covered singles (off her album) "Plastic Love" and "Telephone Number" was released on 7" vinyl. It released in conjunction with CITY POP on VINYL 2020 in Japan and was sold out immediately.

Miki Matsubara was a Japanese composer, lyricist, and singer from Nishi-ku, Sakai, Osaka, Japan.

POCKET PARK is Miki Matsubara 's first original album. It was released in 1980 by Canyon Records on LP and on cassette by Pony. 

Matsubara started her career in 1979 and is known from hit songs such as her debut and immediate breakthrough "Mayonaka no Door (Stay with Me)" (off this album). The song saw a resurgence in popularity in 2020, 41 years after its original release and has been covered by numerous artists such as Emma Hazy Minami.

During her music career she released 8 singles, and 12 albums. She was also known for her work as an anime singer and songwriter, singing the opening and ending songs to anime such as Dirty Pair: Project Eden and Gu Gu Ganmo.
Matsubara's song "THE WINNER" was used as the opening for the Gundam OVA-series Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory.

Boom Shakalaka is a love-letter to the seminal basketball videogame (NBA Jam) which took arcades and game consoles by storm nearly thirty years ago.

This album consists of 11, sample-heavy tracks produced with rappers in mind, packed with rare moments from the game. This album was created with the intention of evoking vintage, dusty VHS's of highlights and trash talk.

NBA Jam is a basketball video game developed by Midway for arcades in 1993 and later onto game consoles in 1994. It is the first entry in the NBA Jam series.

The release of NBA Jam popularized a subgenre of basketball games which were based around fast, action-packed gameplay and exaggerated realism.

In popular sports culture, the phrases "He's heating up", "He's on fire", and "Boomshakalaka!" are identified with NBA Jam. In the game, these catch-phrases describe when a player hits two or three shots in a row. When a player is "on fire", the ball literally catches fire and singes the net.

NBA Jam is one of the first sports games to feature NBA-licensed teams and players, and their real digitized likenesses.

The original arcade version of NBA Jam features team rosters from the 1992–93 NBA season and the console versions use rosters from the 1993–94 NBA season.

A key feature of NBA Jam is the exaggerated nature of the play – players can jump extremely high and make slam dunks that defy both human capabilities and the laws of physics. There are no fouls, free throws, or violations except goaltending and 24-second violations.
