🍕 Labor Day has its roots in the struggle for workers’ rights, particularly the demand for better working conditions and shorter hours. In the 1830s, workers faced grueling schedules, often putting in an average of 70 hours a week. By 1890, although improvements had been made, manufacturing workers were still working around 60 hours weekly.

This push for change was fueled by union organizers advocating for an eight-hour workday and more days off, including the establishment of Labor Day as a holiday. Their efforts paid off, as evidenced by contemporary work patterns where the average manufacturing worker now enjoys a workweek of just over 40 hours and typically has a five-day workweek.

The evolution of Labor Day reflects the significant progress made in labor rights and the ongoing importance of advocating for fair working conditions.

A High hydrated dough, long cold fermentation cycle, and properly proofed dough balls before service. Many variables go into making good pizza dough. Large corporate pizza chains hate customers that understand and taste the difference of an artisanal style pie that’s light, airy, crispy, and super digestible vs one that’s well not. Had the pleasure of meeting a dozen or so true hard working independent and local pizza makers this last year. You may have noticed a big push of emerging pizza chains with big pockets that are expanding from out of state to South Florida. Their intent is to make the dough process easier, save on labor, and lower food cost. At the end of the day thats typically how you scale a business right…

Big business usually wins, but what I love most about this pizza game is you can’t fake that s**t. Fresh Ingredients, time, passion, and effort amongst the real pizza makers are undeniable. Support Local Pizza Joints 🍕
