It’s so fun to look back to a few months ago to see how the garden has changed. This photo was taken by when the sweet peas, California Poppies, and Scabiosa were in full bloom. Now, the dahlias, strawflower, and cosmos are almost finished blooming and soon will be replaced with ranunculus, and daffodils, and anemones.

What’s blooming in your garden right now? 🌸

🌻 JUNE FLOWER GARDEN UPDATE 🌻

Photo 1: These garden beds are always in progress. I’m constantly swapping in baby seedlings and finding space wherever I can. They never look “perfect,” but I cut flowers from them almost year-round and I love experimenting.

Photo 2: The butterflies are back and so fun to watch. They are especially loving the scabiosa, as usual.

Photo 3: We’re enamored with roses right now. The one shown is “Distant Drums.”

Photo 4: We just did our first flower delivery to Meals on Wheels and this woman pictured is one of the sweet recipients of our homegrown bouquets 💗 Thank you to volunteer, Federica, for your help with this! If you are interested in arranging flowers and delivering them on an on-going basis, please let me know.

Photo 5: An image of our new fairy-filled cottage garden, planted by .art.

Photo 6: Our cat, Peaches, resting under the peach tree. 🍑

Photo 7: Deadheaded iceberg roses that needed their moment to shine 🤍

In 2021, this kitty hopped over the fence into my garden. He’s been by my side ever since. He loves to bask in the sun, roll around in the soil, smell the sweet peas, and have playtime underneath the blanket he’s sitting on here. suggested we call him Peaches, which is perfect because he originally started visiting when the peaches were just starting to ripen on the tree (shown in the background here directly behind him). 🍑 Thanks for being my BFF, Peaches 🐱 Do you have a garden kitty or dog? I wanna see pics!

I first heard of mindful flower arranging from and I thought it was brilliant. It combines two of my favorite things: flowers and meditation. Sign me up 💗

Now when I create flower arrangements, my primary goal is to enjoy the process. My natural tendency is to rush through things and do them as fast as humanly possible. Gardening and creating bouquets has taught me to slow down, appreciate each plant, and mindfully work with them. This arrangement probably took me 45 minutes to create. I enjoyed every minute and counted it as my meditation for the day. 🌸 Do you generally tend to rush through projects like this or do you take it slow? Would love to hear!

Flowers are from both and my garden and include dahlias, echinacea, yarrow, scabiosa, chamomile and more 🌱

Have you ever created a nature mandala? Last night I was inspired to created two flower “moondalas” in honor of the full moon 🌕. I used old flowers that I was going to compost and set an intention for each mandala. It was such a meditative experience. It’s a really great activity for anyone who wants more of an “active” meditation and to connect with nature - a beautiful ritual for both adults and kids. Can you guess any of the flowers used in these moondalas? 🌸

I wasn’t feeling well this morning, but I decided to gather some of my energy to go outside to the garden anyway. I was rewarded with this beautiful butterfly dancing among the cosmos + scabiosa 🦋. Suddenly, I seem to have some more life force and a renewed hope for the day. I hope it works for you too if you’re feeling off right now. Sending you all love 🌸

I started my cut flower garden in 2020 and every day I continue to learn something new from the flowers. 🌸 Swipe to see how the garden looks right now including bachelor’s buttons, pincushion flowers, cosmos, dahlias, dara, snapdragons, and nigella. My goal this year was to give away 50 bouquets from the garden and I’m at 48! Now I’m hoping to get to 100. If you’re in San Diego and want to help harvest and make bouquets with me this summer, DM me 🤍

I gave this garden bouquet to my beautiful friend who recently had a baby and was so excited to include white dahlias. Here are a few fun facts about them:

1. White dahlias symbolize pureness and innocence and are a great fit for a new birth.

2. The dahlia is named after 18th century botanist Anders Dahl, who wanted the flower to be considered a vegetable because the tubers are actually edible!

3. Dahlias are native to Mexico and grow in the mountainous regions of both Mexico and Central America.

4. Dahlia roots were grown as a food crop by the Aztecs, but this ended for the most part after the Spanish Conquest.

5. During the Victorian era, dahlias were a symbol of love, commitment and an everlasting union and are still used today in weddings for that reason.

Are you a fan of dahlias? What color is your favorite? I’m growing about 40 dahlia plants this summer. Wish me luck! 😅

When COVID hit in 2020, my anxiety sky-rocketed. All sense of normalcy was gone. I couldn’t stop doom scrolling and reading latest news updates, I missed my friends and family, and I needed something else to focus on. I didn’t know it at the time, but the two small garden boxes in my yard would become my new best friends and ease my anxiety.

After working in the garden for a few weeks, I found that growing plants gave me something positive to focus on, allowed me to use my creativity, and kept me in the moment more than any activity I had tried thus far (and believe me, I’d tried a lot).

I started out with fruits + veggies + 3 dahlia tubers. After the first dahlia blossomed, I knew I was hooked on growing flowers. Not only did I love the process of growing flowers from seed, but I also enjoyed giving the flowers away to those who were going through a hard time. One of the first bouquets I gave away from my garden was to a neighbor whose son had recently passed away. We’d never met previously, but ended up having a deep, beautiful conversation when I delivered those flowers that led to her showing me where she had planted a garden in his honor.

I realized then that flowers have some kind of magnificent magic in them. They help us connect with ourselves, others, and the earth. Every day the flowers teach me something new. I started this account because I wanted share about the incredible power of flowers and the joy that they can bring us. Thanks for following along! 🌸

I made this arrangement for a special wedding anniversary and made sure to include dahlias, chamomile and lisianthus.

💗Dahlias symbolize everlasting union
💕Lisianthus symbolizes wedding and romance
💗 Chamomile symbolizes love and relaxation

Roses would have worked great too, but I wanted to mix it up a little bit this time! Do you usually gift or receive flowers on your anniversary? 🌸✨💗

I’m growing anenomes for the first time this year thanks to the suggestion of the best flower teacher ever, Psalter Farm Flowers! They are just starting to pop up in the garden, so I wanted to share a few fun facts about these cuties:

🌸 Anemones were some of Monet’s favorite flowers.
🌸 In the Victorian-era, they were associated with fragility and forsaken love.
🌸 The word "anemone" comes from the Greek term *anemos,* meaning "winds."
🌸 Other meanings include loyalty and love, which comes from the following Greek myth: When the goddess Aphrodite wept for the slain Adonis, anenomes grew where her her tears and his blood touched the earth.
🌸 And my favorite is that anemones are a symbol of fairies. Legend has it that fairies hide in the anemone’s petals and close them up when it’s about to rain. These would be such a fun flower for kids to grow in a fairy garden! 🧚‍♂️

Playing with flowers is good for the soul. 💕 The other day I went out and harvested some ranunculus to put in my kitchen. When I got them inside, the stems were all different sizes and I decided that instead of cutting them to make a typical arrangement, I would mindfully place each flower in a vase without another cut. It was an impromptu meditation that I can’t wait to do again. This one is very alien-like, don’t you think? 😂 🌸 I hope you can play with some flowers this week!
