We first came along Paulies’s push at the New England Free Jacks. Their story and their perseverance was amazing. If you have time read their story and go out to see them or donate to them.Paulie's Push.

When we were heading into Pomfret, Massachusetts I had the pleasure of meeting Bob and Deb Minarik out on the street. Bob is a retired United captain. I was a flight attendant with United. We bonded over stories about our time with the airline, and Bob told me they were really taken by my Push to Ground Zero.

So taken they were, that they came back later in the week to see me off. As we stood around the sandwich shop we’d ended at the night before Bob peppered my logistics team with questions about our trip. They’re used to that. Questions like “How far does Paulie travel in a day?” And “Where do you plan to stop tonight?” People are genuinely curious. My guys didn’t think anything of it.

Little did they know that the wheels were turning in Bob’s head that morning. Later in the day he sent me a text - my number is on the business cards that I hand out. He told me that, as a retired airline pilot, he’d amassed a number of points over the years. So many points that he and Deb couldn’t possibly hope to use them all. Would I allow him to use some of those points to book hotel rooms for me and my team in our next few stops?

I was floored. If you’ve met me out here on the roadways on any these Pushes, you probably know by now that I’m rarely speechless. But I was speechless.

So these next three nights hotels are courtesy Retired United Capt. Bob Minarik & Debra Minarik, via their points. They could have used those points to go anywhere, but they chose to donate them to me and my team so we could get a few good nights rest.

When I texted Bob to thank him, he texted back “You are doing this for all of us.”

Whether we’re pilots, flight attendants, ticket agents, or ground crew, when it comes down to it, airline employees think of ourselves as like a family. It goes beyond which airline you work for, even. I've learned over these years that so many of them feel the same way that I did. And I really do feel like I’m doing what I’m doing for all of them.
