Come out next Friday and Saturday to The Upstate Renaissance Faire to sea the magic that is Gemstone Mermaids! We’ll be making a splash in our mermaid lagoon where we eagerly await to meet patrons young and old! We have fantastical stories to tell, bubble magic tricks to show off, and so much more!

MEET OUR MERFOLK:

Mermaid: Callisto
Age: 400 moons
Type: Oceanid
Water Type: Marine
Gemstone: Sapphire
Bio: Daughter if Metis, one of 3000 daughters of Oceanus and Tethys called oceanids in the Greek mythos, Callisto hails from the majestic kelp forest off the southern and central coast of California. Although she calls Catalina Island her home, she frequently visits the ends of the forest, swimming as far north as Monterey where she met a handsome diver and fell in love at first sight. One day he found a stunning and magical sapphire that reminded him of Callisto's hair. He fashioned it into a ring which allows her to walk on land. With her mother's blessing, she left the sea and traveled all over the country with her lover, eventually making it all the way to the east coast.

Bio: Known as Mermaid Flamingo because of the vibrant pink of her hair, this mermaid has grown up swimming in the Savannah River and love exploring the oceans of the world! Her favorite thing in the world is to make magic for little guppies and to be able to show them that dreams truly can come true!

MEET OUR MERFOLK:

Mermaid: Alexandra
Age: 267 Moons
Species: Nereid
Type: Euryhaline
Gemstone: Alexandrite
Bio: Alexandra is a type of mermaid called a Nereid (nehr-REE-id) which is a species of water nymph from Greek Mythos. Descended from one of the original 50 daughters of Nereus, Alexandra grew up just like any other human girl on land. One day she discovered her mermaid heritage after being gifted her Yiayia Eléni’s shell necklace. P**f! She grew a bright pink tail in the middle of her bedroom. Since then, she’s been slowly learning new things about her mermaid self and her Greek heritage. Including apprenticing with the Court of Nereids with her noble hippocampus steed Prásinos. She’s traveled throughout the Mediterranean Sea, across Atlantic Ocean and several springs, helping kind sailors, and sometimes catching humans who dare to pollute and harm our waters. All the while, keeping up mostly with her human life and friends.

MEET OUR MERFOLK:

Mermaid: Iris
Age: 454 moons
Type: Siren/selkie hybrid.
Water Type: Euryhaline (can live in fresh, salt, and brackish water)
Gemstone: Amethyst
Bio: Named for her purple hair as it was reminiscent of the desert flower, she earned her moniker “The Purple Desert Siren.” Although originally found in a swamp on the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, Iris is a migrational mermaid. She can and has lived in many types of bodies of water and many climates and biomes including the deserts of the the Southwest and the Rocky Mountains. She has lived in the rivers, creeks and streams of Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas. She even spent a few years in the Great Lakes of the north. Currently she can be found exploring the southern east coast of the US as well as many of Florida’s gorgeous fresh water springs.

MEET OUR MERFOLK:

Mermaid: Faeryn
Age: 300 Moons
Type: Freshwater Mermaid
Gemstone: Labradorite
Bio: Faeryn is a wild spirit that protects the waters deep with her old ancient forest in which she lives. Although now a mermaid, Faeryn was once a woodland spirit that lived to protect that very forest . She gave her life to protect its ancient secrets and magic from those who sought to harm the magic and secrets that it hid and all the creatures that lived in it. The god that ruled over this old magical forest was so saddened that one of his beloved daughters gave her live to protect all that was good and magical deep within, that he gave her to the water and turned her into a mermaid and kept her spirit alive. As a mermaid Faeryn in mischievous, wild, curious, and above all loves adventure.

MEET OUR MERFOLK:

Mermaid: Rowan
Age: 276 Moons
Type: Freshwater Mermaid
Gemstone: Emerald
Bio: Rowan is a mermaid that was found abandoned as a merling. She was discovered by the Fae, lost in a lagoon of emerald water. They raised her as one of their own and this is why Rowan has such an affection for creatures both of land and water. One of the creatures she’s most curious about is humans. This is why you can often find her exploring the human world to learn more. Thanks to the transfiguration potion her Fae family gifted her, Rowan is able to grow legs for short periods of time. She is an inquisitive and kind-hearted mermaid.
