Special thanks to Medha for inviting me and challenge me to create a more house and dub orientated podcast.

It feels refreshing to once in a while create something a lot less intense and hypnotic.

AHIL is a DJ from Rotterdam, he usually plays techno on the more deep and hypnotic part of the spectrum. His style is heavily influenced by labels as NON series, Warm Up Recordings, Edit select and so on.

Besides playing techno he also likes to play other genres, including house, dub and sometimes even some tribal. Playing different styles to what he normally does, makes him feel like stretching his musical boundaries and takes him out of his comfort zone.

About this mix: ‘Once a year I like to create a mix that contains some dub, some tribal, some house.. but it will always be influenced by my techno background’

Embodiment is an Rotterdam-based organization which I hold really close to my heart. It’s driven by a crew that’s extremely passionate about techno, and the future of it.

I personally can relate really well to their passion for techno, and way of thinking about it. So the moment they asked me to create a mix for their Salon series, I felt really honored and I knew it had to be a special one.

The mix contains two chapters; The first chapter is a combination of hypnotizing and deeper techno. The second chapter is harder and more club focused, in this part I’ve tried to layer a lot of different elements on top of each other to create a high intensity.

I’ve used tracks by the likes of Viels, Falling Echoes, Pris, Michel Lauriola, MODDULLAR, 𝗞𝗜𝗞𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗔𝗩𝗗𝗔 to name a few.

Recorded this one for a DJ contest, with the underlying thought:

"I've started selecting tracks for this set during the two weeks we we're allowed to go clubbing again, full of positive energy. My main goal was to create something that I would appreciate on a dancefloor at that time. But then the news came that everything would be closed again... this made me quite sad and angry at the same time. I've tried to put these emotions into this mix.

The mix is contains driving techno with deeper and darker elements, but I wanted it to stay 'danceable' throughout. The driving techno represents the drive I feel to put my passion into this music and our scene, this will always overcome the sadness and anger I feel at the moment due to al the restrictions and governmental failures."

Let's hope this never ending story, will one day end with us meeting on the dancefloor!

I’ve to say, this one was a bit harder for me to record.. Started my track selection around March, by that time there was no perspective whatsoever on opening up the scene in the Netherlands. But during the final stages of selecting tracks and recording this mix, the news came out that there was finally light on the end of the tunnel.

I’ve tried to get the feeling of having no perspective into the first part of my mix, with some deeper and darker tracks. After this first part there is a more ‘friendly’ part in the middle, just to ease of a bit before the last part begins. This last part starts after the offbeat track, and is powered by the news of the government opening up our scene again.

I hope your are all still hanging in there. For me Christmas came early this year, by getting the chance to release a podcast on the channel of Duplicity Edinburgh.
