NFDA LaVolta June 24

Well done to all our stunning dancers who took part in the LaVolta Bolton Competition this weekend. And what a fabulous and friendly competition it was, well organised and with an amazing adjudicator Jon Clayton!
We loved every minute and our dancers came away with some phenomenal results and constructive feedback!

Keep working hard in the studio and these moments will keep on coming. Proud of you all, and was especially blown away when we received the team spirit award, what an achievement knowing our students, parents and teachers are continually showing support and kindness across the whole competition…. This means a lot and these are the moment that make us proud!

Thank you to Elite Dance Competition for a very well organised and friendly experience. Your staff and helpers were all fabulous and all the dancers supportive and kind. The adjudicators feedback has been well received, Thank you for such a lovely weekend, we will certainly be back again.

Well done to everyone that performed, it was a jam packed weekend with lots of fantastic competition in every section and a great challenge for our dancers. 7 of our dancers competed their solos and duets and 9 of our dancers competed in groups. We are proud of every single one of you, you prepared yourselves well, enjoyed the stage and have taken every bit of feedback from the adjudicator on board ready to work on back at the studio for our next competition on a few weeks time!

Keep up the great work and enjoy those well earned medals 🏅 👏🏽🩶🧡

The countdown to the opening of Stage Door Studio’s is on…. So let’s introduce our teachers….

MR BEN

Ben began his journey in the performing arts at the age of ten training with the late Mayoress of Blackpool, Jean Preston and Sylvia Conway’s, where he won multiple awards for his acting and dancing.
He later studied at Cumbria institute of the arts where he gained a joint hons degree in drama and musical theatre. Ben has also had principle roles in musicals which included; Fame; Westside Story and A Little Night Music. For the past 16 years Ben has been a prime example of what the entertainment circuiting Blackpool stands for. More recently Ben has been on theatre tours with a take that tribute show as Mark Owen and is now producing his own steps tribute show

MR NICKY

Nicky Alexander has been a dancer, choreographer and teacher for over 40 years in a career that has seen him travel the world.
He trained at the Theatre School of Dance and Drama in Edinburgh and The London Studio Centre London. He danced with Scottish Opera and The English National Opera and performed in the former USSR with Liama Vaikule as well her American tour. Choreography credits include Alton Towers Beatrix Potter on Ice, Mystique at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Olympic Cruises, First Choice Cruises, Thomson Cruises and most recently Marella Cruises. Gandeys Circus in Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong and Qatar as well as UK and International tours and most recently at the Butlins venues throughout the UK. Television Credits include Sky One, STV, ZSF and Endemol.
Nicky currently teaches at Nicky Figgins Dance Academy in Bishpam and loves passing his love of dance onto the next generation while still continuing an active career.

MISS EMILY

Emily Hails from Blackpool and began performing at a young age. On leaving school, Emily decided to further her training and was granted a place at PCD where she studied a 3 year course in dance. Whilst at college, Emily obtained her teaching certificates in tap, modern and ballet with the prestigious ISTD syllabus. Whilst at college Emily was awarded the commitment to college award and modern theatre dancer of the year.

Emily’s credits include; English Youth Ballet, Alice in Wonderland, Carry on Whittington, Jersey Beats UK and International Tour, Netflix films, Resident cast member at Viva Blackpool, Boogie Nights, Jack and the beanstalk, Circus Spectacular theatre tour, Elf the musical. Emily is currently working for showcase productions as lead female vocalist.

MISS NICKY
DANCE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Nicky started dancing from a very early age and it became clear very quickly that she was born to dance.

By the age of 13 Nicky had been North West ballroom and Latin champion 5 times and principle dancer in various pantomimes at the Grand Theatre Blackpool. Upon leaving school Nicky was awarded a scholarship to attend Merseyside dance and drama centre where not only did she gain her teaching diploma in ISTD but was also the head girl.

Straight from college Nicky’s career as a performer began and it has taken her all over the world and spans 34 years. Nicky has been lucky enough to perform in many fantastic shows both in theaters and cruise ships and has worked with many famous faces along the way including Robert De Niro, Bradley Walsh, Joe Longthorne, Freddie Starr, Cannon and Ball, Billy Pearce, Barbera Windsor and the very fabulous Will i am where Nicky danced with him on the advert for “The Voice”.
Nicky is now a trustee on the bobby ball foundation where she choreographs shows and helps to raise money for this amazing charity, Nicky says “Bobby was a very special friend of mine and it is an honour to be part of the foundation”.

For 9 years of Nicky’s career she danced in the world renowned show “Spirit Of The Dance” performing in various countries and to which she became the lead dancer and company manager. At age 30 Nicky decided it was time to open her own school and pass her experience and ability on to others and this is when Centre Stage Academy was born. In the 19 years that Nicky has been the principal of the school her pupils have performed in many shows per year ranging from her own productions to professional pantomimes and even gone on to have careers of their own in entertainment.

Nicky still performs in productions across the UK including the Betty legs diamond UK theatre tour and the massive arena production of elf the musical.

Congratulations to Lucia and Georgia for their successful audition for Bugsy Malone!
We are delighted that out of over 220 auditionees, they have both been offered a position within the ensemble for the production.

We couldn’t be anymore prouder and look forward to watching you both on the stage at Blackpool Grand Theatre in August!
