Angola is located in southwestern Africa and shares borders with Zambia, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) and Namibia. The country's territory consists of 18 provinces. The west coast of Angola is washed by the Atlantic Ocean.
Until the XV century, these lands were inhabited by various African tribes. With the arrival of the Portuguese, Angola became their overseas colony. Until the XIX century, the brutal slave trade flourished here. According to rough estimates, about 5 million people were taken out of the country over three centuries, and most of the Angolan slaves ended up in Brazil.
