The Florida Theatre (Jacksonville, FL) reopens. This historic theatre is not quite as old as Katherine Hall, but it is great to see this historic theatre coming back to life. The work on Katherine Hall is scheduled to start in April. I look forward to our theatre opening again like the Florida Theatre.

A few months ago, The Ware Shoals Town Council approved, with a 4-2 vote, to begin the work to apply for the Ware Shoals Town Hall (The Big Friendly building) to be placed on the new Greenwood County Penny Sales Tax if the tax is approved. A Existing Conditions Report is being compiled. The application will be completed and turned in. Both are being completed by Preservation South. Preservation South completed the Existing Conditions report and completed the application that landed Katherine Hall on the present Greenwood County Penny Sales Tax. Katherine Hall is scheduled to receive the present Greenwood Penny Sales Tax funding in April. Great Things Are Happening In Ware Shoals!!!

Today is the first day of December. Today is the first day of the last month of the fourth quarter of 2023. We have December and then only one more quarter to make purchases in Greenwood County before the first installment of funding for the rehabilitation of Kayherine Hall is scheduled to arrive. Katherine Hall is scheduled to receive the first funds in late April 2024. As you do your Christmas shopping, please consider making your purchases in Greenwood County to assist us in Ware Shoals. Most counties have a penny sales tax anyway. Please put your pennies towards the rehabilitation of Katherine Hall.

Josh Skinner, from the Greenwood County Penny Sales Tax, sent the following in an email on November 3, 2023:

"Katherine Hall is projected to receive $3,151,213.51 in funding in late April of 2024 and the final $246,059.49 of funding in July 2024.
These are still just projections, but barring a complete economic collapse, things are looking good".

Thank you to the citizens of Greenwood County that saw the importance and value in rehabilitating Katherine Hall. Remember the Penny Sales Tax is contributed to by anyone that purchases qualifying products in Greenwood County. We also thank the numerous people from around the country that has contributed towards our grand facility being brought back to life through their penny contributions.

Check out the Ritz Theatre in Newberry, SC. Their seats are very similar to the seats in the Katherine Hall Theatre. New seats will be required in the Katherine Hall Theatre since many of our seats are missing. It is a mystery to me about the disappearance of the Katherine Hall seats. Who took the missing seats, why were they removed, and where are they at?

There are a lot of cool things going on at the Ritz Theatre in Newberry.

I want to thank everyone that helped make the 110th Birthday Celebration for Katherine Hall a huge success. We are planning to celebrate Katherine Hall's Birthday again next year and the years to come. The funding from the Greenwood County Penny Sales Tax for the rehabilitation of the facility is scheduled to arrive in the April and July quarters. Great Things Are Happening In Ware Shoals.

Katherine Hall was officially opened on November 3, 1913. That was 110 years ago today. As we celebrate this milestone, we also celebrate that the Greenwood County Penny Sales Tax is scheduled to provide over $3,397,000 in April to rehabilitate historic facility. We look forward to seeing movies and live performances in the Katherine Hall Theatre.

Katherine Hall officially opened on November 3, 1913. The Ware Shoals History & Tourism Committee is hosting a 110th Birthday Celebration on Sunday, November 5th from 2:00 - 6:00. Join us as we celebrate Katherine Hall's Birthday and kick off the Katherine Hall Rehabilitation Project that is scheduled to start in April.

Ware Shoals School District 51 is a great place to learn. Katherine Hall Upbdate for September 2023

During the September Town Council Meeting, the Ware Shoals Town Council approved repairing sections of the porch roofs that are collapsing on Katherine Hall. This is great news because this repair will stop the massive amounts of water from flowing into Katherine Hall every time it rains.

The cost of this project will be refunded by Greenwood County when the first allotment of funds from the Greenwood County Penny Sales Tax arrives in April.

The Ware Shoals Town Council vote to repair the roofs on these sections of Katherine Hall is listed below:

A huge "Thank You" goes out to the Ware Shoals Town Council for taking steps to protect and preserve the town properties owned by the citizens of Ware Shoals. Great thing are happening in Ware Shoals!!!

Katherine Hall August Update:

In August, the Ware Shoals Town Council approved relocating the Ware Shoals Museum to the top floor of Katherine Hall when the rehabilitation of Katherine Hall is complete.

Approved by a 6 - 0 vote.

A GPR scan was made of the Katherine Hall pool. This will be required for the Historic Tax Credit application needed to bring back the town pool.

The GPR scan was completed with ARPA funds.

Happy Birthday to the Lyric Theatre. The theatre turns 110 years old in November. The Katherine Hall Theatre will turn 110 on November 3. Ware Shoals is truly blessed to have rehabilitation funding scheduled to arrive in April and July from the Greenwood County Penny Sales Tax. Dirty Grass Soul had a great performance at the Ware Shoals Amphitheater recently. After the show, I talked with the lead singer. I showed him a photo of the interior of the Katherine Hall Theatre from many years ago. He said the theatre reminds him of the Don Gibson Theatre in Shelby, NC. I wanted to go to their recent show at the Don Gibson Theatre, but the theatre was sold out. I mentioned to him that we would love to have their band perform in the Katherine Hall Theatre when the facility rehabilitation is completed. He was very interested in the idea. I am really excited about seeing Dirty Grass Soul in a packed Katherine Hall Theatre.

Looking forward to a great run of shows to end the summer!

I made contact with Mr. Josh Skinner this week. He is the Greenwood County Penny Sales Tax director. He stated that Katherine Hall is still slated to receive the first of two funding payments from the Penny Sales Tax in April. Great things are happening in Ware Shoals!!!

Kyle Campbell from Preservation South directed the restoration of the Spring Park Inn in Travelers Rest. Preservation South was selected to be the project manager for the Katherine Hall Rehabilitation Project. The Spring Park Inn is an example of the end results that we can expect with Katherine Hall. I am extremely thankful to be on a town council that chose Preservation South to manage our project in order to provide the best end result of the project for the wonderful citizens of Ware Shoals.

Congratulations to Chip Tinsley and Kyle Campbell for the 2023 Historic Preservation awards. Chip Tinsley is the President of the Greenwood County Historical Society. He is also a member of the Katherine Hall Preservation Committee. Kyle Campbell is the owner of Preservation South. He is also the Historic Preservation expert and project manager for the Katherine Hall Rehabilitation Project. Congratulations to Chip and Kyle.

My plan is to give monthly updates on the Katherine Hall Rehabilitation Project. Funding from the Greenwood County Penny Sales Tax is scheduled to arrive in April and July 2024. Preservation South will work to provide Historic Tax Credits to finish funding the project. I am posting the June 2023 update.

The contract has been signed and turned in. The Katherine Hall Rehabilitation Project now has an official Historic Preservationist/Project Manager to guide the rehabilitation of our facility. I want to thank the mayor and every council member for voting for this. I want to thank Josh Skinner, from the Greenwood County Penny Sales Tax, for assisting and guiding us through the RFQ process for hiring this position. I also want to thank Dr. Fay Sprouse and Chip Tinsley, from the Katherine Hall Preservation Committee for helping the Properties Committee with grading applicant packets in order to fill this position.

I am not sure what day of the month in April 2024 that the first payment for the funding of the rehabilitation of Katherine Hall will arrive. If the payments come at the middle of the month, then we are less than a year from the first payment from the Greenwood County Penny Sales Tax. "Thank You" to the citizens of Greenwood County that saw the importance and value in saving Katherine Hall by making it Project 18. I have attached a video I found on YouTube. I do not know the folks that made it or why they made it, but I love the video.

Chicago's Historic Studebaker Theatre is set to reopen. This is news article was posted to YouTube eight (8) days ago. This inspires me because I know that in a few short years the news will be reported about the reopening of the Historic Katherine Hall Theatre. I am so excited about the possibilities that are available to promote a prosperous Ware Shoals. We just have to make the effort to go after it.

We were notified by the Greenwood County Penny Sales Tax that if the tax revenues remain strong like they have been, the Penny Sales Tax folks expect us to receive funding earlier than expected for the rehabilitation of Katherine Hall. The two photos show the top floor, double doors of Katherine Hall. I am so thrilled to know these door will go from looking terrible like they do today (the first photo) to looking amazing like they did in the older photo (the second photo). I am super excited about the future of Ware Shoals. Great things are on the way.

We are another quarter closer to receiving the funding scheduled for the rehabilitatiion of Katherine Hall. The Greenwood County Penny Sales Tax has been very good for the Town of Ware Shoals and surrounding community. The CPST brought in $2.8 million during the recent quarter.

From the lake to the Bypass and from Hodges to Ninety Six, Greenwood County is seeing the power of a penny.

Happy Birthday to the Historic Warner Theater. It turned 90 years old. Our very own Historic Katherine Hall, in Ware Shoals, SC turned 108 years old on the anniversary of its opening on this past November 3. We are looking fowrard to the upcoming renovation project that will increase the tourism opportunities for Ware Shoals through the use of the theatre in Historic Katherine Hall. Katherine Hall is project 18 on the Greenwood County Penny Sales Tax. Funds are expected to arrive in late 2024 or earlt 2025.

It was 1931. The nation was still in the Great Depression. Television hadn’t been invented yet. And Erie, PA, had a Warner Brothers movie house on State Street.
