The Katherine Hall 111th Birthday Celebration was a huge success. The weather was pleasant and we had a great turnout. We were able to video some people for our documentary we are doing about Katherine Hall.

Katherine Hall Rehabilitation Project Update
October 2024

It has been a while since I have given an update on the Katherine Hall Rehabilitation Project. A lot of work has gone into getting us to the place where we are at now. The Katherine Hall Rehabilitation project will be allowed to apply for Federal Historic Tax Credits and Textile Tax Credits, We anticipate this will allow us to fully fund the rehabilitation project for Katherine Hall. We have had our project manager in place for a while now. Preservation South is the firm that is our project manager. An enormous “Thank You” to Kyle Campbell from Preservation South for getting us to the place we are at now and ensuring we are on the path to receive supplemental funding to assist the funds we have waiting for us from the Greenwood County Penny Sales Tax.

Monday, October 21, 2024 the Ware Shoals Town Council approved the contract to hire the architectural firm for the project by a 5 - 0 vote. McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture will be our architectural firm. The council also approved the contract to form the LLC that will be needed for the tax credits. This was passed with a 5 - 0 vote.

I am extremely excited about the future of Ware Shoals and the completion of the rehabilitation of Katherine Hall. More updates will be given as they occur.

There are a lot of similarities between the Augusta Colonial Theater, in Augusta, Maine and our own Katherine Hall. Both were built in 1913, although the original Colonial Theatre burned and was rebuilt later. Both theaters utilize Beaux Arts architecture. This video was posted two weeks ago. The Colonial Theater is going through a rehabilitation process now and the rehabilitation of Katherine Hall will begin soon. I am looking forward to going to concerts in the Katherine Hall Theatre.

The Ware Shoals History & Tourism Committee understands the economic impact that tourism has at the state level and locally. This committee will be soon be announcing two upcoming tourism opportunities coming to Ware Shoals.

The tourism opportunities that will be available for Ware Shoals, after the theatre is reopened in Katherine Hall, will be a game-changer for our town. The Ware Shoals History & Tourism Committee is working hard to prepare our facility to increase the cultural impact and the economic impact that tourism will have on our town through the possibilities available to us through this amazing building.

Congratulations to Kyle Campbell from Preservation South. He won another state preservation award this year. Preservation South is the project manager for the Piedmont Historical Society Museum's new home and he is the project manager for the Katherine Hall Rehabilitation Project. Kyle Campbell and Preservation South won a Preservation award this year for the Campbell Covered Bridge project. Ware Shoals has the same opportunity to earn a Preservation award through the quality work of Preservation South and Kyle Campbell.

Katherine Hall February 2024 Update:

Repairs are being made to the fountain side and Post Office side porch roof sections of Katherine Hall. Massive amounts of water has been going into the building flowing all the way to the bottom level of our facility. This will stop the leaks and prevent the continual damage to Katherine Hall. This photo was sent to me on Monday, February 26, 2024.

Katherine Hall is a member of The League of Historic American Theatres. Thank you for spreading the great news from Ware Shoals so that the rest of the country can help us celebrate receiving funding for the rehabilitation of our grand facility.

More than $1 million has come in for renovating Katherine Hall — the first of two rounds of penny sales tax funding to revitalize the old mill community center.

I have seen Rhiannon Giddens a few times in concert. She is amazing. I would love to see her perform on the Katherine Hall stage after the Katherine Hall Rehabilitation Project is completed.
