hello hello we are back with another 3 record tips!

Coming in first we have M&D Substance with a track named ‘Headache’. Absolute gem of US techno from the early 2000s. Can very much picture Quest dropping it.

Next up we have Graeme L and an absolute BEAUTY of a track ‘Real World’. The whole 9 minutes is an absolute pleasure to listen to. Heavily recommend!

Our last track tip is Loose Ensemble with ‘Your Help’. Super funky tune. Early morning afters sort of situation.

CD Presents Episode 31: V.B.Kühl

https://soundcloud.com/completelydifferentcd/cd-episode-31-vbkuhl

We are super gassed to have V.B.Kühl onto the series. V.B Kühl is an absolute part of the furniture in Frankfurt; a local legend. He’s as much a part of the scene as Yok-Yok or Terminus Klause, so we are buzzing to have him on.

In his words..

“My idea was to make a mix with 45rpm vinyls played at 33rpm. I knew I had some records that work at the “wrong” tempo, but I had never done a whole set that way. I've taken deep dance tunes and slowing them down makes them even deeper, the sound becomes dirtier and darker and the grooves become really heavy. I had a lot of fun and it's definitely a nice discovery for me to play a cool downtempo set. I hope the listener enjoys it as much as I did making it! Greetings from Frankfurt V.B.Kühl”

hey hey we have 3 new record tips!

Kickstarting our tips is Brett Johnson with a beauty of a track named ‘Temptation & Lies (For Those Who Can Mix)’.

Secondly, we have ‘Past Bedtime’ by Rubba J. Heard most recently in Doccy B’s wiggy Dimensions recording.

Closing out our trio is ‘More Women’ by the genius Dj Immortal. First heard in his most recent Kisok Mix. Heavily recommend a listen.

We have been provided with just over an hour of a special live set he recorded in his studio. It's bouncy, it's wiggy and most importantly it's 10/10.

yo we have 3 new record tips!

Kickstarting our tips is ‘Klarneto’ by Jorge Kuning. A joyous moss sprung bassline flings us readily on our ride down rainbow road, the benign cloud creatures that line its path encourage us humorously along with gentle slaps of their glittering percussive tails. Just as we begin to settle into our trip, the kaleidoscopic tiles beneath us give way, but fear not! Jorg’s interdimensional Klarinet swoops out of the clouds beneath us, catching us gracefully on its tail.

Secondly, we have ‘Jill’s Jack’. Proper funky tech house from Ralph Lawson with wobbly summertime keys and vocal shots over slick beats and a bouncing bass. classy! // silicone soul label !!

Closing out our trio is “Sunday Soul’ by JP Soul and Phil Coles on Roam Recordings. A perfect afternoon type beat. Loads of nice elements, nothing too intrusive. Beers and room full of mates and this is the one.

CD Presents Episode 29: Corporeal Face

https://soundcloud.com/completelydifferentcd/cd-episode-29-corporeal-face

We are very proud to announce UK Based Corporeal Face as the latest addition to our mix series.

In Corporeal Faces words..

“The original idea was to do a tech-step mix of a lot of records I was listening to as a teenager in the late '90s. It's a hazy period, of calling phone lines to go to squat parties in parts of London I'd never visited before and going to clubs all over the south and north of England. The music still captures a kind of dark excitement and dread there was as the new millennium approached. In the end I also started with lots of faster/sped up jungle, which was also heavy in the air back then, and threw in some newer tracks from currently inspiring artist/labels.”

We hope you enjoy this mix just as much as we do!

Ello ello, as the summer is coming to a close and waterworks festival is just around the corner, we're diving into the Peach Discs label to bring you three records that’ll keep that summer smile on your face.

Kickstarting our Peach Discs journey is Buen Clima’s ‘Transferencia Electrónica’. The EP is an exploration into pared-down dance music, where interlocking rhythms, percussive synthesis and quasi-looping delays meet to form smooth, efficient and pointed club tracks.

Our next pick takes us into the heart of the dancefloor with "Bounce’. Shanti Celeste & Hodge team up again for Peach Discs. The results are rather splendid: a high octane, day-glo flavoured romp through some of the classic tropes of underground house and techno, given a modern upgrade with uplifting feels and flavours throughout.

From the fizzy bouyant opener, "Bounce" through the M1-guided, Sophie-indebted, ultra-anthem: "Whispers" - side A displays an unrivalled energy and charisma. "Whispers" is taken deeper on side B with a highly kinetic groove and Rhodes-laced pallete before Hodge concludes with a slamming, anthemic number entitled "Swimming". Seriously massive stuff here to close off any of the big summer raves. Don't sleep!

Closing out our Peach Discs trio is "Galaxy Girl”. Toronto-born, London-based DJ and snack enthusiast Peach fittingly joins Peach Discs for her debut EP, a limber selection of smart tech-house flexers that find a sweet spot between Orlando Voorn and the Timedance catalog. Peach's long-running self-titled radio show has been an NTS highlight for a few years now, and tuned-in listeners will already have an idea of her musical identity. On "Galaxy Girl" she shows off skills as a producer, expanding her musical interests with four cuts of pristine, rolling tech-house.

CD Presents Episode 28: Sleazy Wonder

https://soundcloud.com/completelydifferentcd/cd-episode-28-sleazy-wonder

Sleazy Wonder (Simon) is a DJ and music nerd from Leicestershire, who has been discovering weird sounds since 2008 – spending his early clubbing days exploring the heady days of UK Club music and Fabric nights. His tastes have developed somewhat since then influenced by countries less explored by the Western world. With a lenghty back catalogue of mixes and edits over the last 10 years Simon's knowledge is both vast and unspecified with his tastes often flittering from Japanese Electronic music to Yugoslavian Disco within a heartbeat.

Onto the mix..

“He keeps it tight on his mix with a re-exploration into his love for library music, diving into late 70s jazz-funk all the way to late 90s hip-hop and club influenced royalty-free music on a dizzying, woozy wild ride... oh and not a vocal in sight.”

Enjoy!

Hello hello, it’s less than a month until houghton and that means only one thing. This weeks record recommendations are three heavier cuts that were heard last year at the norfolk stomping ground.

Lake Haze, also known as Gonçalo Salgado, draws inspiration from the music of Drexciya, particularly James Stinson and Gerald Donald, but maintains his own unique approach on our first record choice, "Intergalactic Communicationz." Salgado demonstrates his understanding that capturing the essence of the music requires only a captivating synth lead and a distinctive snare. He favors distortion-free 909s, jacking Chicago house beats, and soft hand drums to shape the EP's overall sound.

Our second record pick is the 2019 DABJ release "Jump on the House Train" by Advanced Helicopter Commander Fear-E. This track quickly gained popularity and became a staple in club sets and mixes. The release, available both as a highly limited vinyl edition with hand-stamped labels and a digital version, consists of four tracks that encapsulate the vibrant atmosphere of late-night and early-morning warehouse parties in Glasgow. The accompanying insert adds an extra touch to the vinyl release.

Our final record choice is Jack Michael solo production entitled, “South East Vice”. “Mr Nice” has a killer sidewinding bass line which sits comfortably between the gentle synths and deeper vibes of the track. Title track “South East Vice” creeps with a more mysterious and serious energy, jam packed with sounds of the early rave days. On the flip “Rampage” does exactly as it says on the tin, urgent, and direct, the ghetto vocal pays homage to garage sounds of the past, grime like synths flash in and out - going back to the roots. Showing no signs of slowing things down, the B2, “The Grotty Choir” is a slick and pacey broken beat number, with speedy shuffling drums and chunky bass, on a jungle tip. Another display of dance floor bedlam from Jack Michael and the Orbital London outfit, enforcers of modern day rave moods out of the UK. Prolific sounds once more.

https://soundcloud.com/completelydifferentcd/cd-episode-27-jawside

Jawside (Jack) is a DJ/Producer from Oxford, who has been making/mixing music since 2013 – a fertile period for club music. His style has developed during the years since, influenced by an array of sounds across genres, while still keeping a focus on the raw club-ready elements. Jawside is a part of , which began life as a group chat for friends to share demos and memes, while briefly releasing some music and mixes – but the group has undergone a transformation of late, so keep ya ears open!

Onto the mix..

“This mix is the result of my recent solo trip across some parts of central Europe. I recorded sounds and voices from various cities, mainly on public transport, and blended them with the tracks that I had on repeat during my time away. This is my first attempt at mixing ambient/beatless/guitar music. It’s always something I have wanted to do and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out – I hope it creates a sense of self-reflection and apprehension that I experienced while travelling alone.”

Hello hello, as the days get longer and lighter we have been thinking about the music which really puts us in a good mood. As such, this weeks record recommendations are three of our favourite records by Marcos Valle.

Marcos Valle is a Brazilian musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer who has been active in the music industry since the 1960s. He is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Brazilian pop music, blending traditional Brazilian rhythms with elements of jazz, funk, and soul. Valle has released numerous albums throughout his career, and his music has been covered by artists from around the world. He continues to be a prominent figure in Brazilian music and has had a lasting impact on the development of the country's pop music scene.

Our first record is "Samba '68" (1967) - This album is considered a landmark in Brazilian pop music and features Valle's unique fusion of samba, jazz, and psychedelic rock.

https://www.discogs.com/release/441516-Marcos-Valle-Samba-68

Our second record is “Previsão do Tempo" (1973) - This album is known for its experimentation with funk and soul elements, and it has been cited as a major influence on the Brazilian funk and soul music scene.

https://www.discogs.com/release/1205173-Marcos-Valle-Previsão-Do-Tempo

Our final record is “Garra" (1971) - This album features some of Valle's most popular songs, including "Garra" and "Wanda Vidal," and showcases his ability to seamlessly blend Brazilian rhythms with international styles.

Barnaby Watney aka DJ EUROPEANBOB says that music is an escape from reality and has the ability to make anyone feel a number of different ways which is why it’s so powerful.

His mix has been inspired by the record label Cloud Core which he came across from his friend Phil who showed him the song ‘B 4 I Die - Benomorph’ (included in the mix). He mentions that other inspirations come from the label ‘Klasse Wrecks’ which his brother put him onto, a label that releases tunes from Luca Lozano and DJ Steve to name a few.

The mix really is an enjoyable hour of upbeat high-tempo electro bassy beats, perfect to get you through the week and excited for the weekend to come.

Grab your non-alcoholic dry jan beer and nod that head along.

Enjoy!

18/11/2022

Hello hello, as it’s getting colder and darker it is most definitely time for another 3 wonderful records to warm you up. This weeks selection is a few jazz records that I love.

Our first record is ’The Roar of ’74’. The Roar of '74 is a studio album by American jazz drummer Buddy Rich, released in 1974. The album features performances by saxophonist Pat LaBarbera (Chuck Mangione, Art Pepper, Kirk MacDonald), bassist Tony Levin (King Crimson), guitarist Joe Beck (Quincy Jones, Gil Evans, David Sanborn), and other jazz greats. If you are into your faster tempo jazz this is 100% for you.

https://www.discogs.com/release/869412-Buddy-Rich-The-Roar-Of-74

Our second record is the ‘Cowboy Bepop’ soundtrack by The Seatbelts. Hands down one of my favourite anime series and also a big fan of the recent live-action. The soundtrack is absolutely spot on. Composed and performed by Yoko Kanno and the band SEATBELTS, the music of Cowboy Bebop is one of the signature elements of the series. The energetic jazz-infused pieces rip and roar across the stars and are as indispensable as the crew of the Bebop themselves.

Our third and final record is ‘Gone with Golson’ by Benny Golson. Benny Golson has always been one of the most versatile figures in jazz, playing tenor saxophone with Art Blakey and Clifford Brown, scoring film and television soundtracks, and even writing arrangements for the Animals. If you think you might like s little bit of swing with a hard bop edge then this record is for you!

Picnic (Pete) is a q***r DJ and Graphic Designer based in London. Picnic originally started running nights and a radio show up in Glasgow, before moving down to London. As about open-format as they come, Picnic loves to blend the sounds of the two cities, with music from over the pond - you’ll find Picnic blending Garage with trap, and funk with future + anything in between.

Picnic now runs Half Cut, a non-profit events promoter and arts collective - aiming to champion underground and underrated individuals across the wider scene - avoiding the general expected names. Keep an eye out for events in the near future.

Picnic is also programming at Voices Radio, the new kid on the bloc in the London’s radio scene, looking after the majority of the station’s Hip-hop, RnB and UK Rap. Check it out.

Onto the mix…

In Picnic’s words ‘I feel with being in London and soaking up all the sounds down here, I lost a bit of the original sound that I liked DJing most, back between 2015-2017 - that gritty LA beat Scene feel, but drenched in fuzzy, 80’s nostalgia and funk. So dug into some of the archives to bring back a Picnic classic mixtape’.

We hope you enjoy listening to it half as much as we did!

hello hello, it is indeed time for another 3 splendid records to grace your ears.

Our first record wow. Holy grail, holy moly, here is the first re-issue of the legendary Compose label, founded as a subsidiary label for house music by Compost Records in 1994, with artists like DJ Linus, Moon Machine, Jerome Is'mae, Pufo, Marcel Krieg, Future Funk a.o.

The record we’re talking about is the sought-after Cockroach "Fluffy EP" which is a fast mystical trippy house hybrid, produced by Hendrik Wilhelms and Marcus Friedel. Absolute winner of a record.

https://www.redeyerecords.co.uk/vinyl/126300-compo01161-cockroach-fluffy-ep

Our second record is ‘Baseline Funkysh*t’ by DJ Swagger.

You never know what to expect from a DJ Swagger production. Notching up a healthy string of releases over the past few years, the enigmatic German producer has explored everything from deep house and experimental to breaks, electro and juke.

Next up on the release schedule is Bassline Funkysh*t London’s Thirty Year Records is the home for it and marks his fourth release on the label. Stepping away from the dreamy breaks and deep house sounds found on his previous two EPs for the imprint, DJ Swagger has both feet firmly in UK G territory harking back to the influences running through his Book Of Res EP for E-Beamz back in 2017.

While the EP also takes cues from bassline and dubstep, ‘Smartphone Love’ is a smooth UKG roller through and through. Peppered with sliced up vocal samples and crisp percussion, the track is carried along by shuffling 2-step drums and a deep, warm bassline.

https://djswagger.bandcamp.com/album/bassline-funkysh*t-ep

Our final record is ’Sentiment Of Love’ by Gallegos. This record is a nostalgic reflection of UK club culture. A "Sentiment Of Love" - the EP title and opening track is a tribute to a different time.

A positive selection of tracks, starting on the A1 with a Winehouse sample, immediately carves the path for what is always a collection of expert sampling from Banoffee Pies longest standing label member. The A2 offering, "Put Me In", is a beating club anthem full of heavy distortion and all the acid lines you'd hope for in a moment at the back of a club.

The B1 "Together Flyin' High" continues this moment with an elevating vocal and ringing synths layered with Broken Beats and the heavily percussive drum patterns Gallegos' sound is so closely developed around. The last track on the release "Before Or Since", immediately teleporting you to the end of a night. Something inward, for a time and place, future or past. Enjoy it all.

hello hello, for this weeks record recommendations we have chosen 3 absolute must-buys. YOU MUST BUY.

Our first record is the infamous ‘Overcome’ by Soul Capsule. Trelik returns with a repackaged edition of one of the catalogue's most treasured releases. "Overcome" and "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)" need little introduction, and now come sporting the new TR11:11 matrix number. Written and produced by Thomas Melchior and Baby Ford aka Soul Capsule, these tracks came from one of the many sessions recorded at the West London Ifach Studio in 1999.

On the A Side "Overcome" is stripped back and energetic, driven by rolling and shuffling garage style beats, tight bubbling bass and atmospheric synth pads.

The intermittent vocal samples and the release's signature organ set you up for the flip, "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)". Possibly one of house music's most emotive pieces, the track builds slowly with the introduction of each part building a story of soulful optimism based around a sparse palette of deep synths, uplifting keys and warm analogue bass. The understated beauty of the main vocal riff never seems to grow old or tired with the track lending itself perfectly to either main room, peak-time play or after-hours sessions alike.

https://www.discogs.com/release/54334-Soul-Capsule-Overcome

Our second record is ’III’ by Holy Tongue. Holy Tongue (Al Wootton and Valentina Magaletti) return for their third EP of percussive, shamanic, post-punk dub. From the high energy dance-punk of ‘Spirit Mask’ to the meditative dub of ‘Rivers Cannot Wash It Away’, the duo exercise their deep and dubwise heavyweight sound. An absolute must-have for the collection.

https://amidahrecords.bandcamp.com/album/iii

Our final record is the ONE AND ONLY ‘Z@P’ by Tracid. Either you have been living under a rock or your headphones are broken if you haven’t rinsed this track already. Uruguay's finest house and techno export Z@p continues his welcome return to active service in the freakier end of the scene with this spot on Cartulis Music. "Tracid" has a clue in its title, and it doesn't take long to detect the brazen 303 baiting taking place through the core of this peppy workout. It's an effective weapon used in just the right way that should get bodies wriggling with approval.

"That Break" meanwhile diverts into a kind of braindance territory with the titular drums matched with more wobbly synth leads and spooked out pads, and then "Acid Rhytms" rounds the EP off with a more reflective cut for calmer moments in the dance.

We are very excited to present you with our newest mix from Austin Moulton. Austin is a very skilled selector with an eclectic record collection and an ear for the weird and wonderful.

We asked Austin for a few words on the mix…

‘For this mix I’ve picked some more club focused ‘jazz’ releases from the last few years, coming out of many different countries around the world and particularly the booming UK scene. I’ve tried to show off some of the breadth of the genre which never quite fits in one box and crosses from influences like Broken beat, Latin, Afrobeat, and Grime. I really enjoyed the challenge selecting and mixing something different to the usual and hope you enjoy listening too!’

I hope you guys enjoy this one as much as we do!

sup my broskis - after a slight hiatus from all things music we are back with another three banging records. We are gunna keep it nice and simple and just share three of our favourite records coming out of the label Badumtish - the vinyl distribution baby of the one and only alec falconer and garage fanatic dr banana. Please do enjoy :)

Our first record is LVCA & MARLON with ‘Estado Salvaje’. LVCA & Marlon return to Sock It To Me in "a wild state", or an Estado Salvaje. And that's Spanish, so you know it's good. Like tapas.
Eight tracks, every single one tried and tested dance-floors. The test-teams are still sifting through the wreckage of the dancefloors but we will report back with their findings ASAP.

Our second record is a fantastic EP from Rob Amboule called ‘Instant Match’. Four tracks, absolute heaters, say less, listen more.

Our final record is ‘If you like it you like it’. The latest labour of B.Love. The project oozes that signature B.Love sound, parading an array of funk-infused bass lines and bouncy vocal samples, peppered with groove-infused vocoder chops which add to the EP's playful charm.

This project marks the first solo 4-track release for B.Love, unleashing his fun and distinctive flare as he lays a solid foundation for his future craftwork.

Each track embodies a mischievous hedonism, showcasing a funner side of Bizarre whilst offering a flirtatious glimpse into the mind of "B followed by the Love".

Be steady, be ready, B.Love, baby!

Give this bad boy a listen.

UK hardcore alumni DAWL is a DJ/Producer and co-owner of Tone Dropout Records along side label manager Steve Mcsweeney AKA Sween.

His mix for Completely Different is a mix of Old-school style Hardcore and Jungle. DAWL has picked mostly new vinyl from the last 4 years or so but made sure to select tracks that sounded like they came from the 1993 / 1994 era. It is a super high paced mix with lots of twists and turns. It is an absolute must listen that is for sure.

In 2018 Garcia won the Jazz FM Breakthrough Act of the Year Award and the Sky Arts Breakthrough Act of the Year Award. Following on, in 2019 she won the Jazz FM UK Jazz Act of the Year Award.

A collection of sonic mantras to live by, SOURCE is a deeply personal offering in which Garcia maps cartographies around the coordinate points of her identity, her family histories, grief, afro-diasporic connections and collectivism. SOURCE is fundamentally about getting grounded within yourself, so that you can be present with others. It's about a realization of personal and collective power: the evolution of the saxophonist’s values as she re-connects with herself, her roots and her community. Garcia digs deep to present an album with a global outlook: from London to Bogota, Caura to Georgetown, it's a record drawing inspiration from the many places Garcia calls home.

The second record is ‘Zombie’ by Fela Kuti. On the title track Fela and the backup singers ridicule the mindset of men in uniform over an urgent, quick-march accompaniment from Afrika 70. The album was a scathing attack on Nigerian soldiers using the zombie metaphor to describe the methods of the Nigerian military. Zombie was a smash hit with the people and infuriated the government, setting off a vicious attack against the Kalakuta Republic (a commune that Fela had established in Nigeria). Fela was badly beaten, sustaining a fractured skull and several broken bones. His mother, then aged 77, was thrown out of a window, fracturing a leg and suffering deep trauma. The army then set fire to the compound. The blaze gutted the premises, destroying six Afrika 70 vehicles, all Fela’s master tapes and band equipment and a four-track recording studio.
